Jeff Le Taxi Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Picked up Geoffrey Boycott from the Rose Bowl last night, true he's a cricket legend, but WHAT a MISERABLE TIGHT GIT!
Jeff Le Taxi Posted 20 June, 2011 Author Posted 20 June, 2011 Zero tip and the conversation consisted of what an important person i am!
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I don't suppose his wife was with him was she? It's a bit embarrassing for her to go out with all the cuts and bruises she gets from 'falling down stairs' all the time.
Jeff Le Taxi Posted 20 June, 2011 Author Posted 20 June, 2011 Spoke to one of my mates after and he told me about this, not being much of a cricket fan i hadnt heard about this incident, if i had i would have asked him some embarressing questions, if i get him again tonight i will!
mightysaints Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 A mate went to a corporate event last year or so. Boycott was on his table. Told some great storys but when someone came over from another table and asked for his autograph he declined saying that my mates table guests was for him to look after anyone else could bugger off.
Saint Mikey Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Zero tip and the conversation consisted of what an important person i am! Why did you expect a tip, because he's famous? Did you go beyond what is normally expected of a taxi driver? I presume he paid the fare?
rpb Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I stayed in a resort in Antigua where Boycott had been previously, they had apparently told him that unless his attitude towards the maids and waitresses improved, he would have to leave. In my taxi driving days, I received a 5p tip from Gordon Banks and Terry Conroy (it was a long time ago though)...
Ken Tone Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I was behind boycott in a petrol queue once. Genunely, it took ages for him to get the pump off the zero mark.
badgerx16 Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Typical Yorkie, tight with the money, fulsome and loud with the self-praise.
Special K Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Typical Yorkie, tight with the money, fulsome and loud with the self-praise. Ey up tho' chekky scamp.
Jeff Le Taxi Posted 20 June, 2011 Author Posted 20 June, 2011 Why did you expect a tip, because he's famous? Did you go beyond what is normally expected of a taxi driver? I presume he paid the fare? I was early to pick him up, he was late coming out, i was courteous, helpful and polite and listened intently to his bull****. I ALWAYS tip good service.
swannymere Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I was early to pick him up, he was late coming out, i was courteous, helpful and polite and listened intently to his bull****. I ALWAYS tip good service. Yeah, but nippers today, no respect.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I don't suppose his wife was with him was she? It's a bit embarrassing for her to go out with all the cuts and bruises she gets from 'falling down stairs' all the time. He never hit that woman... ...he pushed her ones and twos.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Geoffery 'no fours before lunch' Boycott was one of the most boring players i ever saw play for England. Remember the many cries of 'get on with it' from crowds back then. Botham admitted to runnning him out once for England as everyone was fed up with his slow play which was stopping the team from winning a game.
Prince Jazzbo Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 He also is a great for criticising others, but he never actaully faced any of the real fast bowlers like Lillee, Thompson, and Roberts etc due to his exile from Test Cricket in the 70s
Atticus Finch of Maycomb Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Anyone who doesn't tip Jeff Le Taxi is a hero in my eyes.
Gorgiesaint Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Listening to Talksport over the weekend & they were swapping between the golf & cricket as usual. They went across to Bob Bubka who does the golf for them and he said that when he was friends with Tiger Woods in his early days, he was at the Deutsche Bank open in Germany and he got introduced to Boycott. He asked him if he wanted to go down to the practice range and see this new kid in action. So off the go, Boycott watches Tiger hit 2 shots and say right, let's go back. Bubka obviously keen to know what Boycott thought and eventually askes him his opinion on Tiger. Boycott apparently replies that he's unbelievable, an incredible athlete - he reminds me of myself when I was younger!
scotty Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Fair play to Jeff, thats the first time in years Boycotts been out of anywhere.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Why did you expect a tip, because he's famous? Did you go beyond what is normally expected of a taxi driver? I presume he paid the fare? All the people I know tip their taxi driver.
Goalie66 Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 He also is a great for criticising others, but he never actaully faced any of the real fast bowlers like Lillee, Thompson, and Roberts etc due to his exile from Test Cricket in the 70s So Holding was medium pace eh !!
Micky Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Can't stand the bloke. Taxi for Boycotte.... eh, oohhh.... !!!!
benjii Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 He's a prize **** but quite entertaining. A sort of common Prince Philip, living self parody.
Kingsland Codger Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 He also is a great for criticising others, but he never actaully faced any of the real fast bowlers like Lillee, Thompson, and Roberts etc due to his exile from Test Cricket in the 70s He faced Whispering Death in 1981 in what is often called 'the fastest ever over'. He didn't last long - but then with Holding bowling with such pace nobody would have stayed for long.
FloridaMarlin Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 He also is a great for criticising others, but he never actaully faced any of the real fast bowlers like Lillee, Thompson, and Roberts etc due to his exile from Test Cricket in the 70s Malcolm Marshall was back home in Barbados once and stopped to watch a scratch cricket match. What caught his attention was this white guy smacking the local kids to all parts of the boundary. When he looked closer, it was Boycott. At the time, Macko was in his pomp, and he went to the boundary and shouted: "Boyks, hold on man, I'm coming out to play." At which point, Boycott tucked the bat under his arm, made some weak-kneed excuse, jumped into his rental car and sped off in a cloud of dust. He came perilously close to being killed off by the BBC. When he was going through treatment for cancer (which, of course, nobody wishes upon anybody) they got word he had died. Like most personalities his obituary is already written and it was within seconds of going out when somebody thought they would make one last check call to make sure, and discovered that he was still alive.
Hamilton Saint Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I used to watch him play for England during the 60s. Boring. Incredibly defensive. Here's the essence of his style described on Wikipedia: "Boycott maintained an 'impeccable' defensive technique, and possessed a temperament ideally suited for five-day Test matches ... eschewing any shot that might even hint at threatening the loss of his wicket."
jawillwill Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 I've never tipped a taxi driver-they rip me off enough as it is where I live. The other day I actually sat and waited for about 5 minutes while the driver searched high and low for 5p change he owed me.
Hatch Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Never smoke in bed. Thats the tip I give every taxi driver.
Crazy Diamond Posted 21 June, 2011 Posted 21 June, 2011 Really can't stand the bloke. Makes listening to cricket even more of a chore than usual. He was the best player in the world, according to... Him.
Dimond Geezer Posted 21 June, 2011 Posted 21 June, 2011 Malcolm Marshall This prompted me to google him. I can't believe it's 12 years since we lost him. A truly magnificent bowler.
