Oscar Gobern SIGNS

20 year-old Southampton youth product

Had offers from Southampton, Swansea, other Premiership clubs but chose Town to get games

Hahaha Premiership offers but he chose the Udders, **** off the official website like someone wanted him in the premiership, more likely wanted to demonstrate a flying side kick in my class.

Posted
how much do you reckon for him?

Tribunal indemnity?? 125K at most, more likely than not a lot less.

Strange how few seem to appreciate what "out of contract" means.

It's a an indemnity decided by a tribunal for young players(provided we at least offered him a contract) and absolutely f all for those over 25 ; you can't sell them or part exchange them, they're just gone.

Udders official website: Oscar Goburn will dominate league one as his constant skills & running will have the opposition chasing circles for him, Oscar will be our global warrior that will take us back to the premiership.

We have to be realistic here, our 4th choice CM in League 1 isn't going to get you into the Premier League. If we want to compete with the likes of Wham, Brum, Foxes and Reading next season we're going to have to do a lot better than Gobern. Good luck to him though, hopefully he'll come up with Udders next season.

Shame.

Not too upset though, was never more than 4th choice, and not the sort of player suitable for a top-end Championship club. (looking ahead before I'm accused of arrogance)

All the best Oscar, and thank you for the memories, especially this one:

It ia a bit worrying that we can not produce any youngsters who

Are good enough

and want to stay

Lallana seems to be the only one and he has been a first teamer player for over three years now

I am 99.999% sure that if he had the choice, Surman would have stayed.

Gobern wasn't ever going to be good enough for us, at least it's freed up some squad space to sign a new CM now.

The problem is the players we've produced have often been too good for us to keep, mainly because we've underperformed so badly. I think if we'd gone up in '07 we could still have Bale, Jones and Baird. Surman and DMG left due to our second relegation. Dex, Best, Matt Mills and Cranie left mainly because they weren't getting games. We've still got Chamberlain and Matt Mills who look promising. Even Bart it could be argued, having joined as a 16 year old.

This is probably me just being thick, but I can't see anything on the Hudders or Saints OS about this happening...

- Bialkowski joined Saints as an 18 year old and thus never played for the academy.

- Matt Mills plays for Reading.

I think this a real shame - i hope it isn't yet another one that comes back to haunt us when we seem him playing in the PL for another club.

He was going to be nowhere near our first team next season. The guy needs games. He was 4th or 5th choice CM...

There isnt anything saying any such thing on Huddersfield's OS. No one in their right mind would post that about a 20 year old who has barely played a dozen games.

Soelnt is the only place the news has broke so far.

Good luck to him, he was ok but never ready for Championship football.

I think we should of signed him and loaned him out, hes a player who i think will be a decent championship midfielder if he gets the playing time but he wont be a top championship player or prem player.

i love hammond and chaplow but if we really want to push for promotion we need someone better then these two, there do a job to get us a safe midtable postion and maybe a playoff spot but cant see them being good all season.

Quite likely we made an offer we knew he probs wouldn't accept probably a one year contract. Must put the club in a stronger position at hearing if we have 'tried' to keep him. If we really wanted him it would have been done earlier.

He's still young and could yet develop into a very good player. He was getting games so must have had something - but Nigel presumably needs to free up room on the bus

I think it's safe to assume that if he was any good he'd have been signed to a long term contract a long time ago.

He wasn't, and he's gone. To a team in the division below.

Not even the slightest bit bothered about this.

I for one am sorry to see him go. He was a good impact player and a valued member of the 18 on match day. I know NA rated him highly and he was offered a deal but obviously not good enough. At the end of the day though we need players who share the vision not just want good salaries so I guess it is best all round.

I doubt he left for salary reasons. He wants to be playing and would be down the pecking order at Saints next season.

Good move for him, wish him all the best. Good player but just not good enough for where we are going.

What it does say to me though is that we absolutely are looking for a midfielder. Maybe one might even be lined up.

Thought he fitted in well during the sub appearances he made last season. I guess we're looking for that class above though.

Best of luck to him at Huddersfield.

I thought he would probably get on the pitch every week - just not for 90 minutes. No one is gaurenteed that - not even Rickie...

Not if he sees that Saints are planning to bring in more central midfielders to knock him even further down the pecking order.

Hammond

Chaplow

Schneiderlin

...are all ahead of Gobern

You could argue that...

Chamberlain

Lallana

Guly

...would also do a better job if needed in central midfield.

If the club really is looking at players like Jack Cork, Gobern would be a long way from getting game time (even from the subs bench) in the Championship.

Hadn't seen that in ages before you posted this vid. I haven't laughed as loud in a while, what a fantastic challenge.

Good luck to him, won't be overly missed, but he'll do well for Hudders I reckon.

Have to think that this is because he knows we are bringing in better, otherwise he would have been better staying put as 4th choice CM at his age. Even then we would probably have done better keeping him and loaning him out for a season. Seems odd that we have let him go so easily.

Still if he wants off the bus then he can Foxtrot Oscar.

My point is it is not a very good return from the Academy in the last few years except for OXO and we dont know whether he wants to stay
