JustMike Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 ok, so went with the "forever a saint" option as posted on the facebook page and on another thread on here but having seen a mock up of it by the flag people, its not good! So, we need something else, and fast. I'd still like to keep the pic of Markus waving but it needs more. Anyone feeling inspired to have a go?
itchen_dan Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Can we see the mockup? What about "Win it For Markus"?
Doctoroncall Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 What aspect was wrong? The combo with the picture or too long a sentence etc.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 I wasn't a fan of the design. But not being able to do better I kept quiet. I'll have a little go tonight, see if I can muster something up.
hypochondriac Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Can we see the mockup? What about "Win it For Markus"? No. Just no.
JustMike Posted 17 June, 2011 Author Posted 17 June, 2011 the pic on here looked ok but was made to look "flag like" as in wavey. When designed as fully open shall we say Markus looks lost, it needs something else or a new design altogether. I am trying to find the other thread with it on..
Thedelldays Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 it does not have to have his picture.. why not just have a red and white flag with the words (something like) Markus Leibherr Forever a Saint Thank You
JustMike Posted 17 June, 2011 Author Posted 17 June, 2011 ...or on facebook, it is the picture on here... https://www.facebook.com/pages/One-Markus-Liebherr/169139113144379
JustMike Posted 17 June, 2011 Author Posted 17 June, 2011 it does not have to have his picture.. why not just have a red and white flag with the words (something like) Markus Leibherr Forever a Saint Thank You or that next to his pic!
Thedelldays Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 or that next to his pic! yeah but a very very large pic will never look good on a flag....especially a pic with as much detail that a picture of a person has...
Saintandy666 Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 How about just 'Markus Liebherr'. We don't need a slogan to explain...
Nexstar Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Could you not get rid of the 'waviness' and have his picture on a white central background, with two blocks of red either side with the text?
Thedelldays Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 im not too sure the stripes work either just have a red one then...that is our main colour...
Rebel Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 A black and White picture of Markus on a half White half red flag?
JustMike Posted 17 June, 2011 Author Posted 17 June, 2011 just have a red one then...that is our main colour... like this? https://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/One-Markus-Liebherr/169139113144379
Saint Garrett Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 A black and White picture of Markus on a half White half red flag? I like the idea of this.
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 I think a white background with red trim running at the top and bottom would bring the picture and the text (in black) into sharper focus....also the text occupies way too much space. The picture of Markus should be brought in a little bit - seems a lttle bit meek where he currently is.
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 A black and White picture of Markus on a half White half red flag? Not a bad idea, though wouldn't black and white picture of Markus get lost in the white half of the flag?
Ewell Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Markus has to be a black silhouette style image and not a photograph which will look garish and tacky. It is not rocket science there are hundreds of examples of football flags and I have not seen one with a life size photo of an individual on it. I am sure the artistic amongst us can mock something worthy of all the marvellous donations. Why rush it, let’s get it right, as once we have it we are stuck with it!

Crab Lungs Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Mike, can you email me (if that's OK) as I might be able to design something tonight ..
Matthew Le God Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 have added that to facebook page A white background may not be a good idea as it will get noticeably dirty, quickly. Also as mentioned above, a silhouette may be better as with folds and dirt over time the colour image of Markus won't look great.

Do you know of any footy flags that actually feature a person? I reckon they're pretty rare. I agree about the black silhouette - the fewer and simpler the colours, the better. On the other hand, you risk ML looking like Che bloody Guevara and going down that whole revolutionary iconography route (which is tacky). The silhouette would have to be done tastefully and not just look like the Michellin Man. Edited 17 June, 2011 by shurlock
Matthew Le God Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 What about a silhouette for Markus with the Saints scarf still in colour?
saintmatt Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 I thought a full colour pic of Markus might be too "busy" - we should definitely go for the Che Guevara-style option (like the benitez one pictured in this article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/mar/19/liverpool-rafael-benitez-contract-transfers )
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 What about a silhouette for Markus with the Saints scarf still in colour? That would certainly soften it, though if you're going for the silhouette of Markus, probably better to capture more of his face -and less of his jacket etc.

The Liverpool fans are the ones to follow as those guys know how to show off their greats and have many ideas. Just search 'Kop' in google for 100's of images. Here is their Paisley effort If we get this wrong my fear is it will end up being a laughing matter just like the original Ted Bates statue.

SFCDan Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 How big will it be Mike? The font on this is terrible, it needs to be much bigger and more powerful. In that Liverpool picture a few posts up, look at the "Success has many fathers" font, that looks brilliant. And we surely can't have a full colour person, it'll need to be a silhouette type thing.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Defo the Che style, go white and black on a plain red flag. In white writing have something like Markus Liebherr - Saints Legend.
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 (edited) If you do Che, think the photo needs to be cropped and more emphasis given to his face - like alot of the avatars do on here already. Otherwise, it mighe be hard to distinguish ML through the silhouette. Like the scouse flags, ML should be in the centre of the shot, not on the side and as others have suggested, the font needs to be bolder (and if necessary shorter and terser -again like the scousers 'success has many fathers'), running perhaps at the top and the bottom of the flag (a bit like sfc uk fan's mock up but with the spell-check firmly on ) Edited 17 June, 2011 by shurlock
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 To repeat, great work Mike having to juggle so many balls (financial, artistic etc) and reflect as many peoples preferences/ideas as possible.
Griffo Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Again using a Liverpool flag, but it'd look much better in this style.
Mattio Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 (edited) Here's my two cents The font, text, colours etc can be changed obviously! One with Markus in white Edited 17 June, 2011 by Mattio
saintmatt Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Something like? Sort of, but as others haves said, probably best to not have his suit etc in, just focus on his face a la the Benitez flag
Marsdinho Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 Something like? This is the best so far by a mile.
