Remember we had a bit of a thread on this last year. I'm going to the Alps for a week with eldest and we are cycling 5 big days and seeing 3 stages.

Monday, Col d'Isoard

Tuesday, Col d'Agnelo (France to Italy) Europe's third highest road pass

Wednesday, tour viewing on Col D'Montgenevre and Col de Sestriere

Thursday, tour viewing on Galibier

Friday, tour viewing on Alpe d'Huez

Hoping for a much better showing from Wiggins this year -he certainly seemed to be back to where he should be on the Dauphine.

Anybody on here going out to any of the TDF?

That sounds like an unbelieveably awesome trip!!!!! I was in London in 2007 and was 50m or so out from the finish line - Cancellara zooming by at the end right next to us by the fence to demolish the field will remain one my favourite sporting memories. Unfortunately now living in Australia means the stages tend to finish around 1am, so its quite an effort following the race...

Good luck climbing the Isoard (eek)

It's something I'd love to do when the kids are a bit older. Definitely looking forward to it, outside of Saints games and Ashes tests it's pretty much my favourite sporting event.

Not sure I'd be able to cycle even the flatest of stages so fair play to you for attempting that!

Wiggins definitely seems to be in better shape this year. Seemed like he overtrained last time round and couldn't hold on to the pace in the mountains. Sky are also stronger so he should have better support around him too. Top 10 would be a fantastic achievement for him. If Cav gets round again he should win the green jersey this year as the reduction in intermediate sprints definitely works in his favour.

Should be a strong showing from the Brits. Thomas has a good chance to get in some breakaways and I hope Ben Swift gets a ride as he looks really promising.

As for seeing Cancellara in full flow, that must have been awesome. I'm still excited at the fact I saw Cav win a sprint by Hoglands Park in the Tour of Britain a few years ago!

Always look forward to it. I know many who don't, usually citing the doping scandals that plague the sport. Despite that, and I don't dismiss that doping is an issue in cycling, the TDF is my sporting highlight of the year. I do however wish that 'Albertanol Clenbutador' had the dignity and foresight to give it a miss this year pending his hearing. Would love to go see, but it's term time and as is pointed out in other threads in different parts of the forum us skivving, wouldn't hack it in the private sector, gold plated (LOL) pension grabbing teachers have too much holiday anyway, so the TDF will have to be put on hold until I retire. F O O K I've just realised they won't even let me do that now!

Looking forward to the mountains particularly Stage 12 in the Pyrenees (Tormalet, Luz Ardiden) , hope you both enjoy your watching and riding. Dead jealous.

Very jealous. Would love to go. Favourite sporting event of the year for me.

Cantador will be favourite again but no one has won both Grio and tour same year for a long time i think. Andy Schleck will be close again but can't better Cantador in the time trialing.

Wiggins could make top ten possibile top 6 with a bit of luck. He's in good form after winning Criterium du Dauphine recently where he rode alot more sensibly on the climbs where he was often distanced by the attacks but was never dropped and then closed the gap using his high cadence and measured efforts. This suggests his preperation work has been good this year.

Can't wait. Sky+ box cleared in preparation! Can't see anything other than a Contador win, assuming he's allowed to ride. Green jersey should be far more interesting this year with the new rules, and may well be Cav's best chance to win it.

Think 'Dirtie Bertie's' got it all sewn up. Agree that points classification will be interesting probably best chance for Cav to get it. On a far more mundane note, trying my first 10 mile TT in a couple of weeks - aiming for sub 30, plus 110K Sportive in middle of July, been truly bitten by the bug only prob is I'm 53. Wish I'd started a few years ago.
