Cestrian Saint Posted 18 June, 2011 Posted 18 June, 2011 Here's what Golac said about his time at Southampton. Got to love him. "Beautiful football, beautiful supporters and beautiful days. From day one, from the very first kick, I could sense a connection with the crowd. They were terrific." "There was fire on the park – The Dell was always in flames and a lot of the opponents from London, Manchester and Liverpool just couldn't stand the heat."
JackFrost Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 (edited) 1- Golac - simply the best 2- Killer - One of our best ever CBs and his determination to come back from his knee injury was something else 3- Ostlund - For his commitment and his brute strength/stamina. Will never forget when Hartson karate kicked him and he just got straight back up again as if nothing had happened 4- Claus - Great Servant 5- Niemi - Pure Class 6- Dia - Is just amusing looking back on it 7- Pahars - couldn't half score a crucial goal 8- Monkou - Great player 9- Rasiak - Like an Alfa Romeo, would either delight you or have you tearing your hair out, even just for that goal against Derby 10- Tahar - Purely in for that tackle when he practically chopped Kieron Dyer in two Edited 19 June, 2011 by JackFrost
sidthesquid Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 (edited) In no particular order - Lundekvam, Golac & Pahars are the three stand-out players. All three were great servants of the club and great characters in their own way. Monkou probably fourth. Oh, and Niemi of course. There's quite a long list of least fovourites, too Edited 19 June, 2011 by sidthesquid forgot Antti
toofarnorth Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 Killer, Pahars then Jesus (loved his down and dirty commitment). I had an exam in the Channon Suite last week and there was a picture of Ostlund punching the air on the wall in front of me. Kept me going for my three hours.
Chin Strain Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 If Pahars had had Michael Svensson's determination he would have played 3 times the number of games. Michael Svensson for me
lambertsrightleg Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 Claus/Killer/Pahars Those three pretty much +1.
Thedelldays Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 for me...killer was obviously excellent..but for some reason... Mr Pahars was the man, what an impact he had..shame about the injuries etc but he was a brilliant little player for us and scored an absolute beauty against the skates.. him and BT were a very good pair too...his lovely cross set up BT for the header for our first win at SMS...
swannymere Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 Jhon Viafara was my favourite. Played with a lot of passion - unforgettable performance in the play offs v Derby a few years back. Probably the single best performance by a Saints player i've seen.
Essruu Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 Ivan Golac, without hesitation. I fail to understand the 'legend' status sone people place upon Pahars. Sure, he scored sone important goals, but 'legend'? Nah. He was 'injured' far too much of the time - injuries that I know for a fact the physios and medical team didn't believe existed. Scans and tests proved that the injuries he claimed to have did not exist. He was more a 'bottler' than a 'legend'.
david in sweden Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Does Manny Andreszuski count? no more than anyone else born in Eastleigh.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 (edited) 1. Golac the winger 2. Golac the full back 3. Golac the leader 4. Golac the Magnificent 5. Tommy Traynor (he had to get a mention somewhere as a Eire international --- and his oiled hair made him look like a 1930's Italian anyway (or a precursor to Frank Worthington)) Edited 20 June, 2011 by hughieslastminutegoal

Ian the Red Posted 20 June, 2011 Posted 20 June, 2011 Golac, without doubt, closely followed by Pahars and Claus - surprised Claus hasnt had more mentions..... but definitely Golac, magnificent player, magnificent attitude.
