Liquidshokk Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 After the 8k turn out against Swindon in the JPT and the awful awful atmosphere I think I'll give this boring game a miss.
hamster Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Not Pompey then. This is actually a nice little earner for Torquay so I'm happy for them to go out to us, the eventual winners.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Get behind the team! need to make this a sell out imo
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 If nothing else it maintains our bizarre record of being drawn at home wherever possible in every competition since playing Northampton away in the 2010 FA Cup 2nd Round. Or something like that. We've had something like 14 successive home draws in JPT/League Cup and FA Cup now.
farawaysaint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Woohoo! Fantastic draw! Also this booze is amazing!

No, nor any of the other sides that were seeded and we couldn't possibly play, nor any of the teams in the Northern section, etc.
ChrisPY Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 lol@Brum f*cking the draw up by qualifying for europe.
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 Now on the OS, which will probably lead to someone starting another thread... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2377155,00.html
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 lol@Brum f*cking the draw up by qualifying for europe. Which they did by winning the Carling Cup, lolz. Bit harsh on AFC Wimbledon though, having to play bloody horrible Crawley who have the funding of a top four League One side and already had to put up with them dominating the Conference all of last season.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 **** f*****g home draw AGAIN! if it was away i'd have gone, but I won't bother with this one. Great draw for Aldershot.
stevegrant Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Which they did by winning the Carling Cup, lolz. Bit harsh on AFC Wimbledon though, having to play bloody horrible Crawley who have the funding of a top four League One side and already had to put up with them dominating the Conference all of last season. They could have avoided a preliminary round by keeping Fulham (who probably won't get through three qualifying rounds) in the second round, rather than give them a bye as well. We don't normally get an extra European place for the fair play league.
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 I'm afraid you'll just have to assume I thought you were that stupid.
scott_saints Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Any geeks got any stats for the amount of home draws in the last few years? I honestly doubt any team has had more than us!!
SNSUN Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Good draw for Gillingham there. Torquay again - me vs my Dad. Lovely.

We don't normally get an extra European place for the fair play league. It's also arguable that those two specific clubs should have been in the Prelim., why not a random Southern section draw amongst the unseeded clubs ? No reason to include the Northern section in it, as all the affected sides are Southern. Still, there's another match for you to go to !
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 (edited) Any geeks got any stats for the amount of home draws in the last few years? I honestly doubt any team has had more than us!! I've been counting, just going to recheck it, but we're in double figures and given that the probability of us getting even 7 successive home draws is 1/132 and we've had about 14, so I'm not going to bother checking anyone else's ! Bailey Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Nice to see Scott Bevan come back to his home town. Just joined Bristol Rovers! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13703945.stm
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 (edited) Nov 2009 : Northampton A in FA Cup R2 was the last away draw. Add to that 2009/10's home draws against Northampton (CCup1), Birmingham (CCup2), Torquay (JPT2) and Charlton (JPT3) BEFORE the Northampton FAC2 away (which was preceded by Bristol Rovers away in FAC1), plus 2008/9's Man U FAC3 draw which was the last Cup game of the previous season and we've had 17 out of 19 possible home draws since Jan 2009. Even the two-legged JPT Area Final saw us with the preferred home match in the second leg. Edited 16 June, 2011 by The9
doddisalegend Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Was anyone really expecting something earth shattering? I might go if the price is low. I quite enjoyed (in a masochistic way)Cheltenham in the FA cup last season, SMS was about 3/4 empty and f ucking cold.
JRM Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Leeds v Bradford a bit tasty. I hope AFC Wimbledon beat Crawley so they get to go back to Selhurst Park!!!
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 Forest v Notts County should be fun for them too.

Lighthouse Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Good point, I'll edit. You'd think I'd remember, given that I went. Dry side or wet side?
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 Dry side or wet side? There wasn't a dry side - I was in the front row of the beer marquee stands, directly below a gap in the guttering, which was extremely wet in its own right.

saintmatt Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Quite impressive. I make it roughly a 1 in 3000 chance. 1/4096 (I have a calculator)
Shroppie Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 1/4096 (I have a calculator) 171/524288 actually. I have a calculator too, and a degree in maths. (the chance of exactly 2 away draws and 17 home draws in 19)
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 1/4096 (I have a calculator) Just to clarify that's for 12 home draws in a row, as opposed to 17/19.

captainchris Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Come on Shef Weds too........Well capable of beating that overated, loud mouth, bad loosing tw t from the relegated chumps that wear orange....Sorry, who are they 'playing every week' now??? Ummmmm ..........Could be a case of 'Championship - you're having a laugh!
Huffton Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 With the hike in prices and considering what a boring draw that is it wouldn't hurt the club to let season tickets holders in for free to this one.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 (edited) With the hike in prices and considering what a boring draw that is it wouldn't hurt the club to let season tickets holders in for free to this one. It would when they have to agree the price with Torquay United. Why would Torquay accept Saints season ticket holders getting in for free and them missing out on a cash boost? Also, why is it "boring"? I like to watch Saints win, they have a good chance to win this tie and progress to the 2nd round. Edited 16 June, 2011 by Matthew Le God

I find it boring as we only played a year or so ago, plenty of other teams we could have drawn against who I would be far more interested in seeing us play.

I find it boring as we only played a year or so ago, plenty of other teams we could have drawn against who I would be far more interested in seeing us play. In any case, the tickets are likely to be very cheap for this game, it may even be the first home game of the season which will boost the attendance. Nearly 11,000 for the Carling Cup 1st round tie against League Two opposition Northampton in 2009/10. Which is a huge figure for that stage of the competition against a lower league club. 17,000 against Bournemouth a year later in the 1st round, of course boosted because of a "derby" and large numbers of travelling fans. The Torquay game may well see figures similar to the Northampton game in 2009. 10k or 11k in the League Cup first round against a League Two team is huge.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Ticket prices will be £16 adult. You heard it here first.

VectisSaint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 What a ****ing **** draw. What did you expect? Given the seeding and the regionalisation. Actually I like it, Torquay have always been my second club, just a shame they will be knocked out in the 1st round. I think some people would only think it was a good draw if we were drawn to play ourselves. I think Wimbledon and Crawley should protest, how can it be fair that they were drawn to play each other, and to have to play before the League season has even started.
