Buy the local paper and see if theres anyone in the Wanted ads collecting cars. We got rid of our Daewoo Nubira last week to a local scrap car collector for £180, we kept the tax. Being a Volvo V40, you should get somewhere around £220 to 250.

i sold my car to webuyanycar with a faulty diesel injector that had sealed itself in. would need to be drilled out etc. the spotty oik did not notice the fault and bought the car from me for a thousand pounds more than i was offered elsewhere.

they sell their cars at a car supermarket in the midlands according to the oik

Whilst they may "buy any car" - they make their money from selling them on through auctions. They want recent family hatchbacks, top-spec luxury cars etc.....anything over ten years old or anything slightly out of the norm frankly does not interest them much, hence the very low offer prices - they just don't want it sitting on a forecourt somewhere taking up space that a 3 year old Megane could use. They prey on the desparate or weak, like those offering loans with silly interest rates and your house as collateral.

I have a car I'm about to sell due to MOT failure and value of getting it fixed up far out weighs value of the car. It's a shame really as in appearance it looks in excellent condition and as a car just passing 10 years of age only has 78000 miles on it. I was offered £50.00 by webuyanycar.com but was hesitant to as I thought that parts sold as spares alone from it must surely be worth far more and wondered if I may be better off trying to sell it on eBay, the car itself is still drivable and engine wise runs really well. In the opinion of others here who are better at this sort of thing, what would be your best advice in addition to bug187's question, should I go eBay or scrapyard route? Any advice is also appreciated.

Depends on what it is, the trade treat everything the same whilst some models have niche markets which can be exploited. For instance w124 and w201 Mercedes can fetch more being broken for spares than being sold whole, infact some options on these models can be worth quite a bit on their own. A little research can reveal quite a lot.
