Cestrian Saint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 The kit should change every 2 years. Instead of changing home and away every year, maybe do the away kit on alternate seasons so at least there's one new shirt every season for those who want it. This would mean a new home shirt this season and keeping the black shirt for another 12 months. New home shirt in 2013 & 2015, then new away shirt's in 2012 and 2014, etc.

But it was a long time ago so cant be 100% sure. Like others have said though, Crouch signed up to the Umbro deal a few years back (we used to make our own shirts) which means we get a new shirt every year. I think the 125 year thing makes it seem a little easier to swallow as that covers 3 years of changes. If we get promoted again this coming season then another year can be dressed up to be more acceptable again which will keep the sales figure high. A couple of years surviving in the prem with no real motive for a new shirt would IMO see the sales figures drop as more people stick with their more favoured shirts.
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 How much do people spend on jeans, t-shirts, shirts in a year? Bet it's a damn sight more than £45 for a football shirt Not at the moment it isn't, and there's no built-in obsolescence to the other clothing unless you're a fashion bell-end, in which case you deserve to be parted with your cash.

We were definitely rotating the sales of the home kit and the 2 away kits required by the Prem from the time we moved to St Mary's until the Umbro deal. For instance the red sleeved Prem relegation kit was dropped at the end of that season (and replaced by the centre badge nosebreaker collar), but the light blue away shirt and the yellow with blue sleeves away shirt stuck around for the first season in the Championship as well. 2002/3 kits : 2003/4 : changed the home, kept the away and third Edited 16 June, 2011 by The9

The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 (edited) We also then carried on with the shorts and socks of the home kit with the new flybe kits, which was a nice idea. 2006/7 : Changed the home (shirt only due to new sponsor), and the away and third 2007/8 : Kept the home, changed the away and third Edited 16 June, 2011 by The9
The9 Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 (edited) 2008/9 : New manufacturer, changed home and away, dropped 3rd kit. (albeit it was launched as all charcoal). 2009/10 : Changed away only (presumably due to administration despite details of Umbro contract suggested changing all kits every season) 2010/11 : Changed home and away Edited 16 June, 2011 by The9
Crazy Diamond Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 This is what Premier League teams have been doing for years. As long as it's not the pathetic 'let's have a different collar this season' joke then I don't have a massive problem with it.
Saint_clark Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Has it actually been said anywhere that we're changing kits every season?

dune Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Posted 16 June, 2011 if you order one online do you have to pay a booking fee? Nicole is very generous and strives to keep costs down by applying a small booking fee to all postal sales.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 How much do people spend on jeans, t-shirts, shirts in a year? Bet it's a damn sight more than £45 for a football shirt We have 3 boys and my Mrs will tell you that their football kits represent the best value you can ever get out of clothes. Hard wearing, and they are easy to wash and dry quickly, dont need ironing and the kids love wearing them. As for adults, surely they have a choice, buy one or wear last years. People complaining sound like a load of tarts. I cant see too many real men saying "that's soooo last year" when seeing someone wearing the sash.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 I almost wish Cortese and Leibherr hadn't bothered FFS. Boring.

StVince1966 Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 you have to purchase the new kit to gain access to st marys but only if you wear it apparently?

astrasri Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 i wish we were a big club like man utd, they sell shirts for £10 at my local market and they look fairly close to the real thing just with a mis-spelt sponsor and different colour collar Difficult to miss-spell AIG.... these shirts must be worth a fortune as a collectors item
Saint_clark Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Have you read the thread ? Sorry, I was in a rush to get off to work so only read half way down the page
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 June, 2011 Posted 16 June, 2011 Thank you Nicole for this generous gesture. I'm sure all on here will agree with me that this is yet another example of the club engaging with the fanbase in the true spirit of Southampton. You know you don't have to buy one don't you ?
