All I know is the season ended a month ago, pre-season probably starts in a couple of weeks, and we have done our usual f*ck-all by this time...

nolan was offered 8k per week here by billionaire backed cortese cash strapped wham offered 28k per week! we as always are poor payers considering we have 12million from chamberlain to spend!

Surely Pilkington is a long term signing? ie. potential to improve. Nolan is good, but won't get better, he's a short term signing to get them up.

 

I don't know why anyone would be jealous. They're gambling their club on going back up. We've gambled before and suffered for years. I'd rather do it the sensible way, even if we have to finish below them.

 

Nolan is only 27 isn't he? Got a good 5 years of being able to perform at Prem level if you ask me.

I reckon club will wait until July kicks in before confirming any signings. By then we will have good idea of the market i.e who's available and how much. I sem to remember Pardew revealing this approach during 2010 January transfer window. That's not to say they have not done a lot of ground work already. Like in poker you don't show your hand early. I find it quite refreshing that we are seemingly taking this approach whilst other clubs are busy bringing in lots of new players at inflated prices.

I agree we do start seasons pretty slowly but that's not neccessarily due to influx of new players from July. I believe slow start last season ws due to fact pre season training went badly wrong. In any case my argument was based on fact we don't need to bring in lots of new players, our current squad would be able to hold their own in this division but with addition of perhaps 2 players we will take next step and challenge for promotion first tiime round.
