Dambusters dog/code word changed to make it Politically Correct

He wasn't a bad guy though, and his accent didn't sound anything like any Irish person I have ever heard.

That's my point, he was cast as Irish instead of English on purpose.

The hobbits had American accents.

No, they didn't. Even the American actors put on English accents. One of them was Scottish. You are very stupid, very racist and an absolute disgrace.

There is nothing 'fundamental' about the 'n' word in this story. It just gives you a stiffy, you sick little sh it.

Well give us some examples then....

We're waiting....

Played by Helmut Bakaitis (born in Germany to Lithuanian parents and educated in Australia). His accent sounds English and this ties in with him primarily acting in shakespearing type plays.

In Enemy at the Gates, the bad guy ( Ed Harris ) has an American accent, the good guys ( the Russians ) all have English ones.

What a pointless debate this has become.

( And if anybody missed it, post #39 was intended to be ironic ).

And yet you keep hitting refresh.

it is true...they have/has been a trend of british accents in the "baddies"...not for anything against us but because of...

It's because a Received Pronunciation British accent or Mid-Atlantic accent is associated with people who are aristocratic and powerful, and the evil characters tend to have all the power over the little guy

If they ever make SFC the movie Rupert can play himself then.

It's like a car crash, I just cannot believe how you keep making a fool of yourself.

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

Winston Churchill.

Winston Churchill.

"I prefer land to n i g g e r s".

I wonder who said this ?

I didn't know he'd said that.

I think it's a disgrace how historical fact is being altered to make the film politically correct.

It was just the same with Hollywoods depiction of the Telmarines from the Chronicles of Narnia. C.S.Lewis portrayed them as Muslims, yet Hollywood portrayed them as Spanish Conquistadors.

On this subject, I've seen you put forward a theory about CS Lewis wishing to portray a battle between Christianity and Islam, with the good guys being Christians. What makes you think this is the case?

RE the correct accent for orcs :

Given that The Shire is supposedly based on the area around Stoneyhurst College in Lancashire, then Mordor, being on the other side of the mountains to the east, must be Yorkshire. ( How appropriate ).

Orcs speak with a cockney accent.

On what do you base this statement ?

In the film, they are given a cockney accent. I'm just pointing this out to you.

Also I always imagined that the Hobbits came from Devon (the South hams to be precise). That said Worcestershire/Salop is the region that most think the shire was based on. This is plausible as the industrialisation around ironbridge contrasts between the shire and north of the shire.

Darth Vader seemed to have an English accent.

Case closed. Good point Dune.

If they had used the voice of the actor who originally played Darth Vader (David Prowse, the Green Cross man to those old enough), Vader would have spoken like Ian Holloawy.

Do you mean in real life, or are you talking about their depiction in the films? If the former, then I'm afraid I can't help you; if the latter, then you're wrong. The Orcs' speech in the films is rough-sounding and guttural, but it's nothing like a Cockney accent. In fact, it's not like any regional English accent that I can think of.

Have I slipped into some parallel universe??

We all do it all the time. It's more noticeable as you get older. Some people think it's due to degeneration of the brain cells but we know different, eh? ;)

Oh and another politically correct victory for the anti smoke brigade. Churchill is to have his famous cigar airbrushed out of future school text books.

I expect Thorpe le saint has tip-exed them out of his already.
