Toomer Posted 16 June, 2011 Share Posted 16 June, 2011 caribbean cruise on Azura in december You will enjoy the Azura we were on her in April, C Deck (10) nice large balcony. If there is one fault it is that you can not walk all the way round on the prom deck, cabin steward and waiters in The Perninsolar Restaurant were great. ericofarabia Posted 16 June, 2011 Share Posted 16 June, 2011 Weston-on-Sea. Staying in my timeshare apartment that looks out over the sea. The apartments just a few hundred metres from the beach and from the 15th floor it gives some awesome views. Lol .... at 1st glance I thought it was the Album Cover for Floyd's Animals LP. Can't see the Battersea Power Station or giant pig though!!

The Planet Bar up the top at the blunt end you can sit at a table that feels like you are sat out over the water and you can look the full length of the ship. We did the first sitting so you do the show then off to one of the bars where there is entertainment. Edited 16 June, 2011 by Toomer
Thedelldays Posted 16 June, 2011 Author Share Posted 16 June, 2011 there's a pretty cool waterpark nearby, well there was 4 years ago anyway, which isn't very crowded so little queuing. did a tour of zante with a terrifying coach driver who seemed about to accidentally reverse off a cliff every 5 seconds. worth seeing the place from high up though, some amazing views. don't get dragged off to the shipwreck beach though, it's not worth it and you can't escape the sun. you can view that from higher up too. boat trips into the caves are cool though, amazing blue sea and turtles around there. have a good time im going for the booze and clunge... better get the roids on the go now then... cryoman1965 Posted 16 June, 2011 Share Posted 16 June, 2011 Kai Tak, the previous Hong Kong airport, was my first destination....I assumed that kind of landing was normal, but everyone else looked sh1t scared Lived in Hong Kong in the 70's landed at that airport a number of times. An awesome landing and it must have been a real challenge for a first pilot. I used to live in a block of flats that ran along the flight path for landings. The planes would fly between the high rise flats and a small mountain range just above the roof tops. Then take a very sharp turn to the right to line up for landing. Never saw one crash but a few overshot and ended up running into the sea at the end of the runway.

bowers-sfc Posted 17 June, 2011 Share Posted 17 June, 2011 I though zante was alright to be fair. I think it all depends what your after / who you go with. Me and my mates were in the laganas area for two weeks. best parts of the holiday were probaly the silent disco, seriously is a "must do". Was a right laugh. Renting out a dune buggy for the day to explore the island. went out for about 5 and half hours and saw pretty much everything. paying ten euros for a taxi from one end of the street, to the other. woke up on a path, didnt have a clue where i was, got a taxi, and i was on the same road as my hotel. Then hopefully either Majorca (Pollenca) in September or a cruise if I can get a good deal from work. I've stayed in a cottage at Bigbury (the small hamlet before Bigbury-on-sea). Seek out the tidal road from Bigbury towards Kingsbridge - it's really cool. Drove down it countless times and never saw the tide in until coming back from a meal and turned down the road only to have to slam on the brakes as the whole road was submerged under the sea. There is an oyster farm down there which is worth calling it at if you like fresh oysters. As to Burgh Island walked accross there one day and had a pint. The hotel there is a really posh. One "accidently" fell down the steps outside Rescue Club, and another was beaten to death. The mayor was threatening to "shut down the town" at the time. Moral of the story is don't get on the wrong side of the bouncers! (or in this case, taxi drivers).

dune Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 I have some advice r.e buying foreign currency. There is a new fiddle involving ICE and Travelex and their subsidiaries i.e BUPA, SAGA etc (possibly more dealers). What they are doing is adding 1.5% for people paying with a VISA debit card (that's most of us) which they call a handling fee. This fee doesn't apply to mastercard and Meastro. It's in the small print and I only noticed the fee when the money was debited from my account. What this means is that when you do as search on money saving expert you think certain companys are offering the best deal when in fact they are not if you are paying with a visa debit card. I am now using a company called Online FX and they do not add on this hidden charge which makes them the best deal.
miserableoldgit Posted 1 August, 2011 Share Posted 1 August, 2011 Just come back from a weeks cruise to the Norwegian fjords on Aurora (our first cruise) and I have to say that it was absolutely brilliant! The ship, the crew, the food and the scenery were all out of this world. It is not very often that we come back from a holiday without some negative thoughts, but this was perfect. The entertainment may not have suited all but there was an intersting after-dinner talk with Jan Molby. Can`t wait to do it all again!!

um pahars Posted 1 August, 2011 Share Posted 1 August, 2011 I'm planning on becoming a fans leader. Therefore qualifications aren't important. You're not a very good example to your classmates as qualifications are always important (no matter what your future aspirations are). I'm sure people can make it without or despite them, but you'd be better off knuckling down in your final year and bagging as many as you can (at a decent grade as well). Have you got approval from your school or are you just going regardless???
dubai_phil Posted 1 August, 2011 Share Posted 1 August, 2011 (edited) Been winding a few up - the Fiancee had to travel to Bali on business (it's the major source of that trendy modern art sculpture type stuff that idiots pay a fortune for) & thanks to a massive screw up by her bosses they needed someone at short notice to go as chaperone & help look after the cash she was using for doing her "re-stocking the shop" so I got 5 days of freebie. I'd never been to Indonesia before. So report - Bali is actually fecking big, it is also incredibly cramped around the capital & the main resort of Kuta. TBH it was a sh1tty series of manky roads with what seemed like thousands of arts & crafts "mum & pop factories" almost run in sheds. The amount of pollution & trash was horrific. First couple of days going round I simply hated it. But get away from that and see the scenery, golf courses (holy krap - stunning) and find a beach restaurant with beer at a quid a can and dinner for two costing 4 quid with a sunset to die for I can see why people go on about a dream Isle. TBH though apart from the main beach resort & excellent Bintang beer it really isn't a blokey place. BUT with so many Arts & Crafts shops and "Shops selling girly fashions every 10 feet, a Spa every 100 feet and a full facial or manicure/pedicure for about 4 quid women would love it. In fact it did seem to be teeming with pairs of chicks "doing the backpacking thing". For me? I bought one souvenir Shot glass and found ONE T-Shirt (BinTang) in a size L UK in the time I ws there. And at $200 for a round of golf (which a mate paid as he was bored to death on a family holiday) if you ain't into nature, photography or Volcanoes then stick to Thailand. But I have to say this - spent 3 evenings eating dinner on the beach and taking hundreds of stunning photos of THE most awesome sunsets I've ever seen. Maybe the cheap beer helped but those moments were priceless (well about 8 quid each for all the beer!) This Charming Man Posted 2 August, 2011 Share Posted 2 August, 2011 Personally I loved Bali when I was there. Kuta is a dump but it's like the Aussies version of Ibiza, they flock there for the nightlife - which is good. Once outside of Kuta, the scenery is stunning and it's very quiet. The surf beaches down on the Bukit are amazing. As for me this year, I'm off too; Istanbul Bulgaria Serbia Bosnia Montenegro
