Holiday 2011 - where are you all going.

South of france. Argeles which mrs egg tells me is near spain.

I quite like Argeles sur Mer, however just realised that it has been a good few years since I last went there, learned to to windsurf there. If the weather is a tad inclement take a visit to once hyper cheap frontier town of Le Perthus just down the road, if anything the buying Spirits will be at Spainish duty which is a bit cheaper than France.

Take the coast road to Spain the views are spectacular although the towns en route have lost a bit of their lustre. Barcelona is an easy day trip.

If you are driving down via Clermont and the Millau Bridge and are looking for something quick to eat, after the Millau bridge take the turning for La Cavalrie drive into the village at the junction turn right on the right cracking little bakery, the Merangues are awesome.

Third time to Tenerife, love the Canaries, we often go Easter time or late October (half-term). Have hired a car before and seen Mt Teide but this year we'll be having a very relaxing time just chilling by the pool. Will go to Siam Water Park for a day as a treat for my daughter (and me). TBH after Orlando last year and New York we really fancy doing bugger all and just relaxing in the sun.

We're already looking at holidays for next year, the wife is talking about a cruise. We've never done one before and I'm not too sure if I fancy it.

Do it, we did our first one in April enjoyed every day of it.

Depends what your perceptions and expectations are.

First you need to be careful about your choice of cruise line. Do you want formal, informal or a mixture? Basic or Classy? Stuffy or Sophisticated? Adults only or family? Fun and energy pursuits or relaxation?

Then think about destinations. Sun or culture? Cruising or island-hopping?

Also what type of ship: Small ship or large resort ship? Inside or outside cabin? Balcony?

My personal favourite is Celebrity: elegant, sophisticated, relaxing and high quality. Princess is also a good all-rounder. Least favourite is P&O - not as classy as it makes out and service is a bit lacking. Can be a bit too 'Brits abroad'. Cunard is a bit up itself. Royal Caribbean excellent for activities and families.

Basically there's a choice for most everyone.

Best thing is you can be on holiday within an hour of leaving home when departing from Southampton.

We`re doing our first on this year. 7 days up the Norwegian Fjords on Aurora. Really looking forward to it.

Cruising doesn't really appeal to us but we would be tempted by one of the Hurtigruten trips.

(Jeez - that's a link and a half :))

My parents did a trip years ago on a Norwegian trawler and went right to the Russian border. But I doubt we'd ever be able to afford anything like that :(

I must admit to a degree it didn`t appeal to me but a few years ago my daughter was in the theatre company on Oriana as a singer/dancer and we took her and her luggage on board a couple of times and I thought having seen the ship from the inside that I would like to give it a go. Looking forward to it and the excursions.

Friends of ours live near Javea and, one day, they took us to Benidorm (their daughter was working as a Rep / Resort manager there at the time).

We were amazed - we thought we were in Blackpool or similar! Hardly any real Spanish atmosphere at all. As some have said above, just loads of drunk Brits and very blonde older ladies with skin looking like leather.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess (or sub in TDD's case)

Had exactly the same scenario. Was on holiday in Javea (My favourite place in Spain that I've been to!) and thought we'd check Benidorm out. It's horrible.

Been to all of them aPart from falirkai. Benidorm is horrible imo, just like the telly programme.

The others will be rammed with 18/21's. How about turkey? Hisaronu is cheap aNd very cheerful.

I'd be very interested to hear what that was like when you get make as my wife and kids quite fancy a summer holiday in that part of the world.

We used to drive down there practically every year during the school holidays, as my grandmother was Austrian and lived near Villach, so we know it well. It is a beautiful area, with fabulous scenery and plenty to do and see. We'll probably buy the Kaerntner Card, which gives either free entry or well reduced prices to a large number of attractions and will save us a fortune. Trips to Lake Bled, Venice, Innsbruk, Salzburg are all do-able for day trips.

Dark Sotonic Mills:

Beautiful area, unfortunately Austria is the dearest country in the EU.

Not as far as I know. I suppose it depends on what you are buying. I was amazed how much cheaper property there is compared to the countries around it and here. On a comparison of a shopping basket of goods, places like Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Ireland came out more expensive. We will have a two bedroom apartment in a quaint village, costing just £425 per week. The single bedroom apartments cost just £225 per week. That's not dear in my opinion.

Pugwash: Passed through there on the way to Graz (Steyr) about 18 years ago. Beautiful. Watch out for the temperatures - can reach the high 30's in summer.

Yes, most sunshine hours of any part of Austria, where temperatures can range between 30-40 degrees. There are lakes near where we're staying, where the water temperature is typically 27 degrees. The lake water is crystal clear and good for swimming and watersports. There a bathing establishments around most of the larger lakes like the Worthersee, Ossiarchersee, Millstatersee, etc. Over 200 lakes all in all.

That would be a great experience. Both Toronto and Vancouver are superb cities and the Canucks are lovely people too.

Yep looking forward to first ever train holiday through the Rockies. Mrs has friends in Vancouver and has worked there and i've heard very good things about the place. Have to do trip to Niagara falls while nearby in Toronto as well.

That is absolute nonsense, the 'dearest' part anyway. I totally agree with the first part mind.

I have worked here in Austria for nearly 3 years now both in the summer and the winter, it's certainly not cheap but I could name alot of other EU nations that are much more expensive.

I'd be more than happy to live in Vancouver and if I hadn't of been so monumentally dumb as to get nicked then we would be.

I would be very, very grateful if you could point me in the direction of accommodation (3 beds) in a nice spot as you make it sound ideal and it's very high up on where we'd like to go next summer.

You can book a minibus tour of Niagara, including the vineyards where they produce the ice wine (very nice, but expensive), Niagara and Niagara on the Lake. It's a very good day out and beautiful all around there.

Vancouver, Victoria on Vancouver Island is a must, the ferry trip over there is spectacular for scenery, with all the islands on the way.

God was talking to The Archangel Gabrial about where he should go for his next holiday.

Gabrial says How about The Moon? God says Not interested, heard there's no atmosphere there!!

How about The Sun then? No bloody way - it's even hotter than Dubai FFS!!

Okay then how about Planet Earth? Absolutely NO WAY - never again. Last time I went there was about 2000 years ago - got some bird up the chuff and they are still bloody talking about it :?

I went on a coach tour to Niagara Falls including the vineyards and Niagara-on-the-Lake last October, I paid $50. The vineyard they took us to was owned by Dan Aykroyd of Ghostbusters fame.

Weston-on-Sea. Staying in my timeshare apartment that looks out over the sea. The apartments just a few hundred metres from the beach and from the 15th floor it gives some awesome views.

Great photo of Weston shore. If I had that photo I think I would have to put it on the wall.

I'm in Poland

Weather is perfect

But feck it has got expensive compared to last year, reckon the exchange rate has chaged by almost 20% against pound & dollar.

also having promised cheap smokes to mates back home they are now almost half the price of the UK which is a big jump.

Oh and anyone going on holiday? Stansted Airport - I mean WTF? The whole Ryanair cabin baggage Nazi's pales into insignifigance compared to the dumb fooks trying to pass through airport security. 45 minutes it took, not ONE person in formt had taken their liquids out their bags despite being told at least 10 times... arrgggh not good when you have a 75 year old with you who is already stressed to hell about flying

STill, the beer is good and I have discovered Zubrowca now make a Crystal Platinum Filtered Vodka. Oh that is nice, it is very nice

Already been to Bali. Was amazing, but then it should be given the cost.

So a couple of long weekends in Devon and Cornwall will be all that is on the cards for the rest of the year, although thinking of taking the missus to one of the big Christmas markets in Germany in December, she loves all that guff.

Maybe consider somewhere that doesn't feature regularly on "Britains ****ed Up Chav Underclass On Tour" or whatever it's called?

Didn't know you were a wine drinker Kev :-). Paid ten bucks more than you for our tour.

The Ice Wine was actually pretty decent however I'd still prefer cans of Strongbow to celebrate three points and promotion after Plymouth.

My trip was organised by my hostel in Toronto, can't remember the name of the coach company but it was definitely worth the money.
