My brother in law does pest control, mainly looking after farm land etc, the best 2 ways of sorting the rats out are shoving poison gas pellets down the holes then filling in the holes or a good jack russell. Jack russells are great for barns etc. His has an incredible strike rate.

Put a pit of cat food (liquidised is best!) on oned of their runs. Get your self in position with the rifle. They will stop still and lap at the cat food, its at that point you feed them the lead! You'll soon have a nice little pile of corpses.

Ive got 1 cat that will hunt anything that moves. He used to come home with a couple of rats every day but he must of hunted them to extinction as I havent seen any for ages. He has taken out plenty of birds too and doesnt bother with small song birds that are nice in the garden, he goes for pigeons and sea gulls which are as big as him! My other cat is a lazy bastard and just waits for the left overs.

Be nice to any local cats and erm.... borrow one for a few days if you dont want the responsability of owning one. :)

I'm just waiting for the rats to turn up at my place as I just got some chickens. My little patterdale would keep them clear if her squirrel hunting skills are anything to go by. Just wonder if she would keep the fox away from my chickens. Got traps out for him, so will see what we catch!

In all honesty you won't stop a fox. All you can do is lace a dead chicken with poison and hope it's killing to eat them and not just for the sake of it which some do!!

I presume that there are some cubs somewhere that need feeding. Might have to break out the .243 if the traps don't catch him, as with all due respect to Charlie boy, I would prefer to have my chickens alive. Having said that the Mrs went over board a little and got 10 of them and each lays an egg a day!!
