Barfy Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 Amazon is compelling viewing... I quite enjoyed Coast too, though it was slightly less exotic.
Thedelldays Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 Stuff like Planet Earth. Now, I know this might not appeal to you, but stuff like that,, the wuality of image was amazing. The news is pretty damn good here, and question time while we are in that area as well as newsnight. On comedy, now I know Little Britain isn't everyones cup of tea, but it was a pretty different comedy. Documentaries, been some excellent ones over the years. Coverage of events, the olympics was superb. Edit: I see Barfy put some decent points across so, one one or two programmes are "world class"....that is that sorted then
Barfy Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 (edited) so, one one or two programmes are "world class"....that is that sorted then What has been produced by commercial tv to match then? I can think of possibly Green Wing on C4. EDIT: If we're talking historically, what about Only Fools, Fawlty Towers and anything done by David Attenborough. EDIT #2: Later with Jools Holland, and his Hootenanny (sp?) are also very good. EDIT #3: Have I got news for you. Scudamore Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 I quite enjoyed Coast too, though it was slightly less exotic. Agreed...Coast is top programming... The documentaries on BBC4 are very good... The BBC pushes out plenty of good stuff...

It does let itself down by employing Chris Moyles, Sara Cox etc though.

Thedelldays Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 Don't get me started on how much they pay Jonathan Ross... Who i like i must hasten to add... indeed.. I (why i dont know) tuned in to Radio 1 the other day (or week) and moyles was broadcasting his show from LA...coming out with the same crap jokes but swanning it up at our expense....did that really need to happen... do they have to employ so many people who dont express an opinion on music? Zane lowe is about the only opinionated presenter on at a decent hour.. then they had (or still have) kelly osbourne hosting that surgury on sunday or what ever it is...i mean..WTF??? then you have the other 73483 radio stations

I'm you've boasted in the past about places that your sub has surfaced and the fun times you've had. Would that not count as "swanning it up at our expense"? Would that not count as "swanning it up at our expense"? not really...that is having operational stand offs not far from our areas of operations which, are mostly real ops directly contributing to the security of our nation..and I dont mean ops against iraq of afghan... cant tell you any more but we dont tend to go 5000 miles away and do our day to day job and come back.. slight difference i reckon.. Barney Trubble Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 The Iranian Embassy Siege is another fine example of our boys kicking ass... I was one at the time however...i'll have to give this some thought... I'm not sure being good at a sport makes for greatness... Very poor tiiming though by the SAS. I remember it well and it was half way through a John wayne film, talk about taking liberties.
Ash Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 the idea of the BBC as a whole is very out dated and belong in the last century. It is about as progressive as Naval warfare (if not more so).the presenters on BBC radio dont tend to have an opinion and are generally bland. Lolzz! Have you actually listened to anything other than Radio One before coming to that conclusion? Have you heard of people like Melvyn Bragg, Laurie Taylor, Chris Evans, Danny Baker, Adam & Joe, Andrew Marr, Simon Mayo, Mark Kermode, Mark Radcliffe etc. etc? one good thing, they will soon be getting F1 back i guess.... The whole service doesn't have to cater to your tastes, there are going to be things which you don't like but that is not the point. I ****ing hate George Lamb but there are some people who do like him and that justifies his employment what programmes...seriously..what programmes make the BBC world class.. top gear they SELL to other countries....the office maybe red dwarf was tried once..what programmes make the BBC the best in the WORLD??? Why emphasise the word sell? If you genuinely do not know what output the beeb makes which are ahead of the field then you shouldn't be shouting it down. I hope the Navy takes to piping the Today Show through submarines whilst you are on your next mission. Stuff like Planet Earth. St Landrew Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 About an hour and a half ago. After a job over at Woolston, I dashed down to Weston Shore to see the old QE2 off. Quite brought a speck of dust to the eye. The number of times I've sailed alongside and behind that ship in the last 25 years is... well quite a few times anyway. buctootim Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 What makes it great is all those things you miss when you're abroad for an extended period of time. Many other countries have some fantastically attractive parts to them - but live there six months and the shiny new novelty wears off.

EastleighSoulBoy Posted 22 October, 2008 Share Posted 22 October, 2008 Regardless of which group of politicians decided to start it, it left thousands of innocent men, most who would have cared/understood very little about what was happening, dead. I feel no pride, just sadness for those that needlessly lost their lives so others could attempt to increase their own political standing.[/quote] This sounds familiar!
