dubai_phil Posted 6 June, 2011 Share Posted 6 June, 2011 Hi guys help I have to buy EoA a pint of proper English Beer for lunch in a couple of weeks. He's gonna be based close to Southampton International, & I'm bringing my Glasto Wagon up from the rental place up the fishy end of the M27. Not knowing that area these days, anywhere that does lunches, easy to get to by train from Eastleigh station (he won't have wheels) and from the M27 for me that has a decent sized carpark ? cheers And yes Hammy I'll buy the 2nd for you. Give it to Ron Posted 6 June, 2011 Share Posted 6 June, 2011 River Inn has a carvery - 10 mins walk from Eastleigh train station. On a sunny day you can sit outside by the river in a nice garden. Was thinking of the Cricketers but that would need short taxi ride. Ham Farm does Old Speckled Hen on draft thats not too far up Twyford Road. saintscottofthenortham Posted 6 June, 2011 Share Posted 6 June, 2011 A short cab ride from Parkway/Eastleigh and just off of the M3 (One junction up from M27) upto Otterbourne there is the Otter which does some lovely scram. Failing that... The Cricketers is the only other place in Beastleigh I have been brave enough to order food from.

Baj Posted 6 June, 2011 Share Posted 6 June, 2011 Best pub for food in the area is The Old Forge on otterbourne road. Highly recommend it.

Always thought the river inn does pretty good grub, aslong as you go at the right time of the day. That said, its not really a drinking pub. Block 18 Posted 6 June, 2011 Share Posted 6 June, 2011 How's the Swan at Mansbridge these days? not bad at all worth a visit, has a large car park, carvery and bar menu, real ale as well. They also keep the smokers in one spot outside so you csn enjoy your food by the river without the wiff of fags on a sunny day

ribbo Posted 7 June, 2011 Share Posted 7 June, 2011 JK's in Eastleigh TC itself does great food and has Old Thumper + a lot of other ales on tap, you only realise you are in Eastleigh when you go out for a fag. Other than that, the Criks is okay, The Forge (despite Boj's approval) + Otters food/beer ale are both fantastic but not as close to a train Station (or as good on a summer day) as the Bridge Inn, Shawford. jam Posted 7 June, 2011 Share Posted 7 June, 2011 Cheers for that looks promising Hopefully the plan is for 21st but still working on it! The Otter's a really good shout. It's a cab ride from Eagle**** but the car park is massive and they have a few decent beers. Summer Lightning and Doombar last I was in. Only thing is if your wagon is that big, the turn in and out of the car park might be a pain...

Special K Posted 7 June, 2011 Share Posted 7 June, 2011 http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thefisherspondeastleigh/ great on a nice day. The Otter is good inside, although the beer garden is poor. Potters Heron may be a bit far out, but worth considering if you have got some time.

djharvey Posted 7 June, 2011 Share Posted 7 June, 2011 Try the Cricketers near the junction of chestnut avenue & stoneham lane. You could walk it from the airport or a 2 min cab ride. Real nice friendly pub, good food, good value, big garden, big car park.

so22saint Posted 8 June, 2011 Share Posted 8 June, 2011 This place was refurbished last year and is on the station at Shawford (1 stop from Eastleigh) and just up the M3 (1 junction): http://www.pub-explorer.com/hampshire/pub/bridgeshawford.htm it's also on the river. Eastleigh itself now has a wine bar would you believe - good selection of lagers and real ales. Eastleigh has a deli as well now - middle class bastards. hamster Posted 16 June, 2011 Share Posted 16 June, 2011 Phil will struggle to turn that jalopy round in their car park, let alone park it. If there's a space out the front on the service road take it. Iirc Tuesdays is their quiz nite, there is a good chance that I will be attending but won't get there til seven. Eric, they had a couple of lovely ales on tap last week and they know how to keep their ales f'sure. Food's okay, basic Greene King fayre. And stay away from the buy 2 glasses get the bottle free, they changed it to only apply to the pricier ones, house wine is fine (red and White). hamster Posted 16 June, 2011 Share Posted 16 June, 2011 PA Will a post-it note suffice, I have to be careful nicking staples from work since one of the HCC middle managers was moved into our stationery cupboard to save electricity and desk space. My memory must be playing tricks .. thought they had a big car park!! Mind you I've only ever walked there, so parking wasn't a prob!! It will only be a lunchtime visit, although I might possibly stroll down for the quiz later dependent on mates/family committments.
hamster Posted 18 June, 2011 Share Posted 18 June, 2011 The Cricks car park is.big but not that.big for turning a big camper round I'd say. Park it on the service road Phil , don't argue.
