thefunkygibbons Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 Will probably be buying a place with a horrid outbuilding that will be demolished to make room for a new garage Been suggested to me that the old bricks are worth 80p each and there are probably a few thousand of them I assume that to get value one would need to clean the cement off, put them on pallets and correctly identify exactly what brand they are Anyone got any experience of this? Saint Mikey Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 Anyone got any experience of this? Carried some around in a briefcase once. Regards, Lord Melbury
Johnny Bognor Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 I did a similar thing last year. Part exchanged the old bricks against replacement bricks

Rut Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 Put them in the back of a truck. Drive to some city and start a riot. You could then sell them for 10 bob a go to the rioters. 3 for a quid. The best thing about this is after the riot has finished you can go round and pick all the bricks up. One riot a month and you'll be loaded. Special K Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 You can try http://www.solentbrick.org.uk/ You are right about cleaning them off and palletising them. This can be a tough old job. I'd be suprised if you get 80p a brick though, unless they are something like tudor reds, in which case your extension would look very nice and not be a candidate for demolition! Quick measurement guide - 1m2 = 60 bricks in normal stretcher bond.
saint_in_munich Posted 3 June, 2011 Share Posted 3 June, 2011 Bricks are only worth money if they are hand made. I knew a demolition guy and they were worth 35p each in the mid 90's so they would have increased in value. The best way to clean them is with a hatchet and keep the blade sharp with an angle grinder.
