Saint Garrett Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 my guess is that he is not confident of gettting a regular game in our midfield. He would be a good squad player, not sure if he is better than what we already have.. This is my view. IMO he's too similar to play alongside Morgan, and not better than him. Rather spend the money on a different type of midfielder. Are we even sure that this bid has been accepted, or is it just another press rumour ?
del boy Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 or is it just another press rumour ? No - I can confirm that according to sources this is alleged to be understood
Crazy Diamond Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 my guess is that he is not confident of gettting a regular game in our midfield. He would be a good squad player, not sure if he is better than what we already have.. Jumping to conclusions really. That's assuming we want him, have spoken to him, have arranged a fee... I really wouldn't get so carried away. As for who this club is, I've not heard anything more but I'm trying to find out.
Raging Bull Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 So a northern hack, probably a Burnley fan thinks Cork isn't interested in us..........hmmmm
Crazy Diamond Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 So a northern hack, probably a Burnley fan thinks Cork isn't interested in us..........hmmmm Indeed. For what it's worth I don't think he'd go to Burnley on a permanent deal.
rooney Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 Who on earth would wish to live in Burnley when the alternative choice would be the south coast. He did not play in the the under21 qualifiers last week and there was not much talent there on show, over the three matches.
Raging Bull Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 Indeed. For what it's worth I don't think he'd go to Burnley on a permanent deal. Without trying to sound arrogant we've got quite a lot going on at Saints right now Inc 2 of the brightest talents in the league so I'd be surprised if he turned his nose up at us. On a slightly separate issue, if he did sign we could potentially have quite a young midfield, not particularly in-experienced just young.
Matthew Le God Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 Who on earth would wish to live in Burnley when the alternative choice would be the south coast. tbf you don't have to live in Burnley, to play for Burnley. Lots of nice places to live nearby and very close to Manchester.

Wade Garrett Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 I expect the Lancashire Telegraph is as reliable as the Echo.
derry Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Over priced and over rated, reported pay would be equal with our best paid player. We can do a lot better for a lot less.
s0108787 Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Over priced and over rated, reported pay would be equal with our best paid player. We can do a lot better for a lot less. Give us an example then.
hypochondriac Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Give us an example then. His mate Brian Howard.
Matthew Le God Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 His mate Brian Howard. Is this from regular, recent and first hand experience of Cork and Howard playing or something else?
s0108787 Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 His mate Brian Howard. But is he better? Older, yes. Better? Not sure. Cheaper? Not sure about that either. Long term Cork could be the better bet ability and cost wise, as he could command a substantial fee later in his career.
derry Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 I've seen him play and I don't think he is going to give us anything we don't have already. I still think it isn't going to happen, although with Kevin Nolan to WHU on a reported £55k a week I doubt he'll be going there as a first team starter.
Professor Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 The press have obviously decided that West Ham and Sam Alladyce are news worthy (ex-Prem, London club, high-profile manager, etc) but with the activity at West Ham all being reported it does seem that Cork might not be going there or we might have expected to hear by now. Does not, of course, mean he's coming here but if he did, he'd give Hammond a run for the CMF spot.

I just think we need something more than that. The spine needs strengthening with better players than we've got, not players that just manage to challenge the ones that are here for a place. Anybody we sign needs to be a certain starter. More like Fonte in stature.

More like Fonte in stature. Can't say that I disagree, Dave. The England U21 performance at St Mary's didn't fill me with excitement. He was played at RB, so he doesn't seem to be an obvious starter in midfield, although I was aware of his versatility. I would also like to see someone in CM who radiates stature and leadership.
Turkish Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 this is turning into another Charlie Austin thread.
thorpie the sinner Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 this is turning into another Charlie Austin thread. At least he signed at the end of it..........Hang on!!!!!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 this is turning into another Charlie Austin thread. At least he signed at the end of it..........Hang on!!!!! Austin signed for Burnley & Cork has been linked with Burnley despite long TSW threads. There could be a common denominator here but I just can't work it out...
sandwichsaint Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Any one think we should spand the farm on Ben Watson? Very tidy player - he could be our Matty Holland for years to come.
