If Henderson is worth £20m, then Chamberlain is worth £35m, without doubt. Henderson is a average-to-good midfield clogger. I wonder what Neil Maddison would have been worth in this day and age? Especially as he would score 5-10 goals a season from midfield and could do a little bit of everything...

If he has a good season this year in the Championship and stays injury free with a fair few goals and assists, he could be worth £20 mill by next summer. Hang on to him for now would be my advice.

chamberlain..who has played 2/3 of a season in division 3 costing more than Van Der Vaart......really..?

im sure you will tell me otherwise but hey ho

- Chamberlain has possibly 10 years more playing time left than Van Der Vaart.

- Van der Vaart was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid and expendable, Chamberlain is a key player for Saints.

Both these and a number of other factors influence the values of the two players.

Good. Cortese is hopefully driving a hard bargain in order to put the vultures off.

We ain't a selling club anymore and I for one fecking love it.

van der vaart...at least champions league standard in the prime of his career..

OxO MAY be that...he also MAY not

So because we don't know, Saints should automatically sell him at a price that suggests he won't? No, that isn't how it works, especially if the seller is in a secure financial position.

yes

he may become the best player on the planet...so does that mean he is worth £50m...

he could be another jermain pennent at best also....

Why? They have no pressing need to sell him, so they can dictate the price.

i know that..just hightlighting another example in why english players are waaay over hyped/priced.

when a player, albeit with great potential who has played well in 2/3 of a division 3 season..would cost more than an arguably world class player then you know why we have a stupid amount of foreign players in this country and ours are over priced....henderson and jones cost more than what

modric

van der vaart

vidic

combined.....

stupid really but hey ho

Great news. Someone tell Alpine, it should cheer him up a bit! Any championship club would love to have lallana, Schniederlin and Chamberlain in their ranks!

That's the risk Arsenal, or any other team buying him, would be taking. They have to assess that risk against their evaluation of the player's potential, and their finances, and decide what they think is a reasonable fee to offer. And Saints have the right to say, no thanks: we won't sell for less than X pounds, paid in such and such a fashion. And if Arsenal (or whoever) don't like it, they can lump it. Or if they really want the player, they can pay up. Any asset is worth just exactly what someone is willing to pay for it, no more no less. If Arsenal (or hoever) is willing to pay 12 million (or more even) for Oxo, then that's what he is currently worth, end of ...

Whether he'll still be worth that, or more, or much less, in 2 or 3 years' time is what makes the transfer maret what it is: a gamble ...

This!

People don't realise what having someone like cortese at helm is doing for us!

Im loving it, no more easy pickings for the vultures that would be!!

Thank you Nicola, thank you Marcus :-)

Not quite as retarded as it sounds when you look at the prices of English players (the 'best' ones anyway and I use that word loosely). Chamberlain is better than L1 and potentially a lot better than where he is now. Based o his current standing, he's not worth anything like £35m. I would say its well worth doing what we can to keep him, its a much more attractive roll of the dice than splashing out on overpriced tripe.

I know its sounds simplistic but player is worth a figure that someone wants to spend, and makes a club want to sell.

His price is high and we don't really want to sell, and are unlikely to be able to buy a player as good, however much we get, due to where we are. So its no good saying get £10m and buy a £8m replacement and there won't be much difference as we will be replacing him with a championship level winger and notice a big difference.

Are they really going to set the NPC alight next season?

Performed well in League one,but yet to be convinced they will be stand out players in the NPC.

Adam should hold his own but the other two are have hardly been tested in a league above.

I thnk some maybe pinning their hopes on that they will be more than a match for any that are put in front of them.

Here's hoping they live up to the billing.

I'd say Adam and Chambo would walk into 90% of championship teams. We're very lucky to have been promoted with players of that level, they're clearly more than good enough for this league.

There was no official bid from Arsenal previously, but they still talked to Cortese about the transfer. Cortese has dug his heels in and demanded the maximum he can from the conditions of the contract. The price could be any where from £5M+ to what Cortese can impose by utilising any term in the contract. All we know is that Cortese wants a good whack and Arsenal want to pay less. The move just will not happen in this window unless pressure is brought to bear by another party. For Arsenal it just makes sense to get a look at how he performs in the Championship and then make their decision in the January window if you are not getting a bargain. Unless he shows the potential I just cannot see it happening until then or we have to modify our stance because of the contract run down. We won't get any where near the figures being talked about at a tribunal, millions yes.

Adam held his own pretty much when we were last in the Championship, he is now a better player.

The NPC will be a natural step up for Chamberlain and he'll cause havoc, Walcott style.

Schneiderlin vs Man Utd. Nuff said imo

Thank ****, 8 pages, and the message is sinking in, that no bid was made for AOC, and until you see it on the official site, he will remain a Saint.

FFS dont say that, he will now be off tomorrow i bet...eeekkkk (;->

The Mirror was also convinced Chamberlain was sold to Arsenal in the January window and that he is going to Liverpool... no wait Arsenal... no wait Man Utd... no wait Arsenal in the summer window. They don't have a clue!

I wonder what excuse they will use if Chamberlain is still at Saints on 2nd July?

What about Le Tissier then who would be able to afford him in todays inflated rates?

The pressure on Wenger is to win a trophy now, so he needs players who can go straight into the first team. That is not AOC so it seems unlikely that Arsenal would spend a large slice of their budget on a player for the future when it is next season that is crucial to Wenger's reputation.

most transfer stories are made up in the tabloids.

I thought that once, but a lot of them do have a degree of truth in them. Just because a transfer doesn't happen, it doesn't mean it wasn't true and a club didn't put in a bid or weren't interested.

In this case however, it's a pretty poor rumour. Who wouldn't be interested in AOC?

Posted
was it truthful that he was at Arsenal's training groud in January and move completed? No it was made up.

Well, a lot of people thought it was ******** when Theo was reported to have done the same back in 05/06. Then Rupert said he had been there to look at the facilities so we could have an example to copy when improving our own at Staplewood.

I don't really expect him to stay unfortunately. It's a shame but that's how it will be with promising young players of ours for a long time to come.

Alex was on a coach with the rest of the squad though to Tranmere on the day The Mirror claimed he was at Arsenal's training ground.

press have looked very silly on this one, who knows what will happen, personally would put it at better than 50/50 he will be here next season. Will await anything official.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's not true, though I grant you it is quite unlikely. I'd like to believe it's not true purely because the Mirror is a sorry excuse for a publication and Oliver Holt is not one my favourite colleagues at all. Not by a very long way.

6m with possible additional 3m based on appearances + trophies + England caps ect!

cr*p deal

suppose the money will be used to finance new players so maybe we are still a selling club(hides away before i am told every club is a selling club)

No one has a clue what's going to happen, including Talk Sport.

They spout out rumours just as the tabloids. I expect him to start right mid against Leeds.

None of this is even remotely official, you know. He's still a Saints player.

agreed lets hope he shoots all jornalists up the as* and says my career will be better served by playing every week than sitting in Arsenals reserves
