Looks like Chamberlain's off then

To be fair, you wrote some ****e and he pointed it out and you've thrown your toys out of the pram.

I don't feel great about getting annoyed about him. But it was more the frustration at near enough every single post I've made recently being dissected, taken 100% literally, corrected, and such. Not to mention having facts I already know, that most people know in fact, pointed out. There's no need for that.

It ends now though.

Still not happy about Arsenal taking two of our most talented players, if indeed Ox does go there, getting back to the topic.

I'm glad that is over.

Does it feel like being told "that was the last time" by the bird you dont fancy but always end up sh*gging when ****ed up at the end of each night when you dont pull something better? We've all been there pal, just for most of us, it wasn't when we were on a football forum.

I knew exactly what you meant. It does feel after having (potentially) lost our two brightest prospects to Arsenal in recent years that we are their feeder club and I share your frustration. In the short term though it may be the best move if we can use the money to strengthen in key areas.

Furry muff.

To be honest, I would be surprised if Arsenal are that serious. They really need a couple of players who will give their first 11 more steel. Can't see how Wenger can justify spending a hefty chunk on yet another promising youngster.

I reckon he will stay as, unless there is a bidding war, I don't think anyone will make an offer we accept.

Simon Peach, a journalist, posts on these forums and has better contacts than most of us at Saints said on Twitter this evening...

#SaintsFC have yet to receive a bid for Alex Chamberlain from Arsenal, as I understand it. Not expecting any movement anytime soon either.

In a way we aren't much better than Arsenal. Theo was at Swindon's youth set up, Lallana was at Bournemouth's. But you'd think that a club the size of Arsenal, in a city the size of London, would find more of their own players rather than going around nicking others and 'developing' them. Matthew Upson and their current prodigy Jack Wilshere were both at Luton at a young age.

In my opinion, Theo hasn't progressed all that much, or at least certainly not as much as he should have done or many thought he should have done. The comments about a lack of footballing brain are right in my opinion. But then again he's scored one more hat-trick for England than I have...!

I was speaking to Peter Marinello a few months ago and he said he was disappointed with him, and he ought to know a thing or two about promising wingers.

Furry muff.

Indeed, I quite agree. It's all very well signing 'ones for the future', but they've been saying that for years. It doesn't appear to have worked.

Err excuse me, Scott Marshall was a highly rated young centre half when we beat off competition from Preston, Luton and Brentford for his signature, he was hailed a coup. Perry Groves was signed with the Alan Shearer money for £750k, big money in those days. We took all of Arsenals best young players back then, except for Merson, Adams and the others that went onto forge decent careers, we just got unlucky i think........

In August 1998, Dave Jones signed Scott Marshall for Southampton on a free transfer. Saints thought they had made a transfer coup, but Marshall soon showed why Arsenal let him go, scoring an own goal in his debut against Leeds United in a 3–0 defeat on 8 September 1998, repeating this four days later in a 4–0 defeat at Newcastle United. He never appeared again for Saints and went out on loan.

Good ol' Perry, 16 appearances in two years - did manage 2 goals though, not bad for an attacking winger costing £750k...!!

I rest my case Your 'onour...!!! ;)

If Chamberlain goes for less than 20 million quid Saints have been tucked up.

This is 2011. You seen how much other players (not as good as Chamberlain) are going for?

Keeping him at Saints will be a serious show of intent. I think we will all sigh loudly if he goes. Not just because he is good - but the next time we get another good player he will be off to some 'big team' etc etc etc...

Can't blame the players but it all just sucks. Here's to a salary cap (like it will ever happen but wouldn't it be good?)....

I'm pretty much willing to guarantee Chamberlain will still be here come the end of the transfer window

Just a gut feeling, mind.

Well obviously it is a gut feeling as you have little real idea what is happening at SFC with regard to transfers.

Like me and other posters you just hope for the best but Cortese is running the club and will do what he considers is best

Interesting that in Express, it says that Wenger is looking to tie up the deals of Cahill and Gervinho asap! Nothing about OXO when it is also supposed to be a done deal!

well yes but Cahill,Gervinho and Samba are real players, players that they need to get back amongst the real front runners, the signing of a boy wonder probably isn't very high on Wenger's list of priorities just now especially if it's a "done deal" which leaves nothing to be done.

I know they didn't work out but Arsenal could equally argue that they were getting the new Henry and ended up with the new new Pennant when they got Walcott. In terms of highly rated young players signing and not reaching their potential it's Saints 2 Arsenal 1. Arsenal are a feeder club for Saints. FACT.

You get the feeling Arsenal want him simply to stop anyone else from having him, much like they did with Walcott. Can they justify paying the sums being spoken of for a player that won't play in the first team and when he does, might not be as good as they'd hoped? I'd say not, especially since they aim to win things in the short term and have only brought through one really decent English player for years (Wilshere), but then again I know absolutely nothing about what is happening.

I think he'll stay, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go while English players are moving for crazy prices.

He'll never leave if that's the case. The starting price for a decent young English player between premier league club seems to be £15m at the moment. Any highly rated English player automatically has at least £5m added to his price tag because of his country of birth, it's always been the case that English players are over priced. £10m for Heskey, £30m for Rio Ferdinand, £26m for Milner!!! etc etc......

Another example of us taking Arsenals best young players. We are massive, then are our feeder club. We give them players that we realise aren't going to cut it and rip them off. FACT.

Not really sure it is reliable but in The Sun they have a little sentance at the end of this article

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3670754/Arsenal-snatch-Gervinho-from-under-Tottenhams-noses.html

saying

"Arsenal last night started talks with Southampton over ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN.

Wenger is certain to sign the 17-year-old midfielder for £12m but the main sticking point is how the transfer will be broken up with the Gunners likely to cough up an initial £6m."

If we only get £6m up front i'd say that was not a great deal personally.

I don't think we will see Alex in a Saints shirt again.

Just need too ensure we get the best deal possible.

I still believe it is his father pushing this deal through and not nessesarily Alex.

Perhaps we need this sale to fund incoming deals.

I think he'll be gone this time next week! Would you seriously stay at saints if arsenal came in for you offering big wages? I don't think so eh!! Good luck to him if he does leave, just hope cortese demand all the money up front plus a sell on fee would be nice.

Go on NC...show off your business skills to us all!

I just can't see NC agreeing to terms that are not fantastic for us. If they agree on 12 mil then NC will want as much of it up front now or they can jog on. I don't even think NC wants any instalments at all although he may end up having to concede it's the way things happen in footy. Being a banker however, he may offer a better deal for a one off fee or a higher price based on instalments. Bit like interest payments on a loan?

Can't honestly see him still being here come the start of the season but would not be surprised if I am wrong.

Well then you think wrong my friend. Of course I'd seriously stay at Saints if Arsenal came calling. But we're Saints fans, we love the club. Oxo is different.

Will be gutted if he leaves which now looks very likely. Just **** off Wenger.

Would like to have seen us bring a few faces in before selling Oxo. If we are supposedly struggling to meet the valuations of recent players, then it will get a hell of a lot harder now other clubs know we have a bigger transfer kitty.

About to say the same. This problem ballsed us up in January. We were looking at targets and everytime we enquired, other clubs were expecting us to sell AOC and therefore have at least 10m. They then put their price up and we say bugger off.

IMO, the sooner he goes, the better it is for us this season and in this transfer window.
