I think that's what Cortese said in January, we were trying for players like Mackail-Smith etc but they kept quoting the chambo fee we may be getting.

It's annoying that speculation can cause clubs we want to buy from to up the price, especially when there's no concrete evidence that Arsenal will sign him.

 

On the fee, I would like £10mn upfront with an extra £3m based on appearances, as well as a 35% sell-on clause.

LOL are you mental?? I'd like £50m but lets be real. £13m plus a 35% sell on clause, what planet are you on!!! So if in the future he goes for £30m we'll get nearly £10m then as well!!! £23m for a kid that's had a half a season in league one. Stick to championship manager son.

Benzema surley will play up top as a striker? and 27m is about 15m too much for him.

I've always seen Theo as an eventual central pacy striker ..the next Thierry Henry, who also started playing out wide. Maybe Wenger agrees.

Really can't see why Wenger would sign Chamberlain. Alex wouldn't make the Arsenal first XI for quite a time, whereas the pressure is on Wenger to win a trophy this season. £10m, if the speculation on price is accurate, is a large slice, even from Arsenal's transfer budget so surely they are more likely to spend that on a player who will strengthen the side immediately, not one for the future. My feeling is that SSN are wrong.

sorry, no idea personally whether CF or RW.

 

The item about him was on talksport and they had their french reporter who seemed to know him well. The presenter said the same (CF) and was corrected saying he prefers and is better staying wide, but does have good scoring rate (about 1 in 4) cutting in. Saying his assists rates from wing even better.

 

His understanding is that he will go to Arsenal and it will be as RW.

Arsenal needed 4 or 5 players signed before 4 or 5 of their 1st team players wanted out!

 

I've no doubt they'll come in for Alex in due course.

As well as Downing, who IMO is massively overrated, he is also after Cahilll from Bolton and a left back, think he has higher priorites this summer than Chamberlain, hopefully.

Still hope we keep hold of him though. He'd be brilliant for us in the Premiership.

TBF we did get, potentially, £12M for a 16 year old with less than 20 appearances to his name and no contract. I know it turned out less, about £9M IIRC but even then that wasn't bad.

If this is what he said then he is caught up in the hype. This time last year he was still fairly unknown to the majority of saints fans and he had not even properly broken into our first team. He has played one season in an excellent league one side. He has a lot more developing to do before he is 'ready' to play in the premier league. What he has to realise is if he signs for a premier league club this summer, he will be a reserve and will probably only feature in cups games. Surely playing in front of 20k plus fans in the championship is better than Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United reserves.

Further to MLG's post, was it not the Mirror that claimed Oxlade-Chamberlain to Arsenal was a "done deal" in the January transfer window? Should come as no surprise that they're making it up as they go along. May have been The Times having said that, haha.

 

Regardless there's a good few papers that have had a desperate stab at making this into a story - until it's officially announced by us or another club I refuse to believe a word of it.

To be fair I very much doubt any paper would put a quote in from anyone if they didnt actually say it. They would be exposing themselves to a massive law suit if they did.

 

For what it is worth I think he wants to leave, his dad has been instrumental in brainwashing him and he probably will go. Its just a matter of the right deal coming in.

 

NC is playing hard ball and for that i am grateful as at least we will get a big fat cheque.

 

IMO the only reason he will stay is if no one offers anythig close to what NC wants for him.

My girlfriend spoke to a friend of Alex's dad in port solent on the weekend. He has told him he is staying at Saints this season because he hasn't got his drivers liscence yet. His dad doesn't fancy driving any further than he does currently. He also confirmed every quote about him saying he wants him to join Arsenal is utter bull**** and that if he had said anything, it would have been that he wants him to eventually join Utd.
