Looks like Chamberlain's off then

Is this not a spin on the interview OC's dad gave near the end of the season. Would be more worried if his mum had said he may be moving. Think she said he was staying. Personally I think its the Echo stirring again because they have nothing better to report.

Just think though if he goes for 10m plus, the Liebherrs have got a free football club seeing as they only paid around 8m for the whole lot!

Potentially Alex will be a great player, but i dont think he is worth the figures being bandied about at the moment!

I say snap their hands off and buy FIVE Rickie Lamberts and still have 5m change!

If he has aspirations elsewhere let him off the bus! onwards and upwards COYR.

The kid needs to grow. Leaving now would only benefit him if he were to go into the first team straight away. Can't see that happening. Theo is the example why he should wait. Wenger is not going to offer him reg first action. Like I said at the beginning, he needs to grow.

I'm just struggling to work out where we'd fit 5 Rickie Lamberts into the side.

Ok, one as target man, one out on the right when he's meant to be in the middle, and one hitting the long passes from the middle out to the winger. Oh yeah, then we could have one who is actually on the end of crosses. And I guess one who plays alongside Fonte to defend corners, but I think that one would get dropped.

Can you imagine the arguments over free kicks? :D

Let the kid go - potential yes but he's got a long way to go and nothing's for certain. In terms of what he currently offers, he's not a player I instinctively miss when he's out of the team. I could name five+ players who are more important to the present squad than Oxo and he certainly doesn't have the same wow factor Bale had when he exploded onto the scene.

Of course, he should and hopefully will get better over the coming years; but if its only a matter of time before he leaves -sooner rather than later- I just can't see him developing so quickly that he becomes a real influence while still playing for us. Pocket the money, reinvest and take heart from the fact we're selling from a position of strength.

You'd deffo need one on the bench in case one of the others got injured. And if you subscribe to a popular view on here, you'd also need a couple in the squad as back up for the back up.

5 is probably not enough.

I think if you have more than 5 you become susceptible to playing against players who can run.

I hope he stays he is a great prospect & another season with us would do both the club & the player a lot of good what is the point going to Arsenal Man U City ect to maybe sit on the bench & play in the league cup.

He has had 1 good season it is way to early to go better to devolp & play games get experience & show that he can still look a player at a higher level

Hmm, it's a view certainly held by a poster (or 2?) but I wouldn't use "popular".

If he goes just make it quick so we can find replacements sooner rather than later. Just for once I'd like to see us hit the ground running next season.

Of course I'd rather not see him go in the first place but if it is to happen then so be it. We'll survive.

I'm sure Walcott is still in Wenger's plans. He hasn't set the league on fire, but he's not doing too badly either. Besides he's of a much higher calibre than the Chamionship. I just don't see it.

Would be great though.

I would be happy with 12million up front, 20% sell on, arsenal youth players in return on loan. Realistic or not, anything less and we shouldn't even talk. NC wont be bullied by anyone. Whatever happens we all know it will benefit SFC.

We're never going to get that amount up front. Practically all transfer fees are paid over 2/3 years these days.

We didn't miss him at the end of last season when he was out injured. We therefore know we can live without him.

The key thing here is to ensure that we get as much of the transfer fee, whether it be £10 mill or £14 mill, up front, as well as having a sell on clause. With that kind of money we can strengthen the squad and give us a real chance of a top 6 finish. That gives us a better chance than not having the money and keeping AOC.

Bottom line is - if you're faced with staying in the championship and getting games every week OR going to a top Premiership side with your whole career ahead of you, to possibly play in the Champions league and to be on silly money - financially sorted for life....what do you do?

Its not that difficult

I had the pleasure of being in a group of people chatting to Alex recently and he is a lovely young man. He reckons that last game against Walsall and scoring the goal was the best moment of his life and he obviously genuinely loves the club. When someone started talking about how much influence his dad has had on his career and how much he owes him he very politely corrected them and said he owed it all to his mum. I just wonder whether his parents are still together and , if not, whether this is dad's way of beating his chest and showing who's boss.

Either way, Alex is a very mature and sensible young man who loves being a part of this club so I wouldn't start throwing your toys out of the pram and making him feel unwelcome and dispensible just yet.

I hope we spend before he leaves. Prices will go up once people see us get 10m or something in.

Plus it'd show we actually have money, which many are doubtful of. If we get the money in, then spend a little, the debate over whether we actually have any money will continue.

I can't see us spending £10m if he's sold though, simply won't happen.

This.

You do sense that the dad does not like the club, all those skate songs and some of the things he says, luckily it's his mum that looks after Oxy and if you saw the way she was telling him what to do at the end of the season when several hundred stayed behind then you would see the respect he has for her.

The dad just walks off with his head down like a grumpy ****

Former England international footballer Mark Chamberlain believes his son’s best interest would be to make the switch to the Gunners as quickly as he can in order to “continue his development.

Yes Mark because that did wonders to Walcotts career didnt it.

Also, can people stop twisting Alex's and his mums words, not once did any of them say 'He is staying!'.

In my opinion, he is going to leave, him and his family have their eyes set on him leaving at some point so I say get rid asap, we want players that want to be here.

England international, Champions League football. I'm sure Walcott would trade it all in...

He's going to leave sooner or later. If the price is right, we should do it.

We are no longer a one-man team, and we have the clout and the standing to acquire a decent enough replacement(s).

He's a kid, who may turn out to be crap for all we know.

That doesnt mollfiy my anger at Arsenal though, who I reckon have been talkign to his dad, and who seem to think they have a god-given right to our home-grown talent.

I think we have to look deeper than the surface on this. Wenger will be under tremendous pressure after a very disappointing season and it remains to be seen whether the restructured ownership at Highbury still buy into Arsene's philosophy of buying in good cheap youngsters and turning then into superstars who form the basis of a team that win everything... Except of course that THEY DON"T!

This is the big question and if they decide it's time to call it quits, Wenger may well be shown the door (in a gentlemanly fashion of course like being retired upstairs to be Head of Yuf Development or some-such hollow title. If Wenger goes then expect Arsenal to adopt new policies and start buying in more experienced players from overseas like their rivals and Yuf will fo now have had it's day there.

We keep getting told that Arsenal 'have no money' so in these circumstances £10m for Oxo makes as much sense as watching England play test cricket against Sierra Leone on a wet Wednesday.

My guess is either;

(a) The Echo is stirring to get some sales in this dead part of the year

(b) Oxo's dad is panicking 'cos he knows his lad is the last thing on the minds of Arsenal's management right now

The other question is his own demeanour - he looked very happy indeed at the Walsall match and was clearly delighted to be part of a winning team on the up. Nor is it affecting his England career being in a lower division, so from his perspective "what's to worry about yet?"

"Money", I hear you say, "Money"

I'm sure he's getting more than £30 a week as well, Cortese is far from being naive fool of that you can be very well assured.
