where it matters on the pitch. In two seasons in the league P92 w51 D22 L19. One promotion and one trophy in the cabinet.

Surely the best record of any chairman in our history. You can say all you like about lack of information from the club, delays in season ticket sales etc his record on the pitch is impressive at any level. Won over 50% of games and lost 20%, this whilst we have rebuilt a squad, a first team, a management structure. the club is unrecognisable from the one he took control of less than 2 years ago.

We have an amazing chairman who is delivering on and off the pitch.

Cortese, woooah! Cortese, woooah!

We dont need to sing about him though, that is embarassing. Show your gratitude by selling out SMS next season FFS. Money is what matters to our leader, not names and songs. However in years to come, when clubs say they have a great new chairman, their fans will ask "ahh, but is he a Nicola chairman?"

Fair point turks, and I agree with it, but a little unsettled by your change of avatar ;)

Interesting stats too, I never thought to look those up. And yeh, that Volare/Cortese song is embarrassing.

I am just using my avatar to show my admiration for our leader. I know how much some of our forum superstars like to read into avatars FFS. To me he is the grand Ayatollah.

Apostrophe, sweet heart. Apostrophe!

"Cortese's record as chairman". It is the 'record as chairman' belonging to Cortese.

God forbid we get more than one Cortese embodied in one chairman. Now that would be a record!

(..I'm bored. No football. boring...)

I know the guy is good for us BUT just remember with the money spent and the **** standards in league one it does not really warrant it as great!

Next two seasons are judgement time IMHO.

I'll start getting excited about it when we're doing that sort of thing in a decent league as opposed to our lowest two league positions for 50 years.

Amen. I think a few too many are getting carried away with promotion from the third tier of English Football. While undoubtedly a good thing, hardly the achievement of the millenium. This breathtaking feat has been achieved by such leading lights as Colchester, S****horpe, Millwall and Southend United in recent years.

Everything is all good and the club is going in the right direction, and we have the right people in charge. Let's see how we're doing in the thick swamp of a Championship season come mid-November or February.

If we're challenging the top six at that point, then I'll get excited.

Other than that, well done on yet another blatant wind-up thread Turkish.

I have heard from a source that the reason for these amazing stats is that NC actually takes all the trainning sessions, picks the team and gives the half time talks. AP and NA were/are just front men to hide the truth. AP was sacked becuase he asked if he could take a trainning session......

Who was chairman when we won the FA Cup in 1976, got promoted a couple of years later then made the final of the League Cup?

Have a word with yerself.

Reader and Woodford had it easy in the top-flight compared to what Cortese is going to have, seeing as the the top half of the PL are now owned by assorted billionaire oligarchs.

I think i'm going to throw up.

I'm by and large happy so far, but have a sneaky feeling that in the not too distant future ticket prices are going to be sky high (plus the Cortese tax).

5 year plan to get into the Prem, then a 5 year plan to be regular top 3 (IIRC).

We're on target for that.

I agree, happy with progress but I think we're going to see a **** storm on here when season ticket prices etc are announced.

I agree, and I wont be too stressed out about it, but I'm sure that there will be quite a few on here that will not be happy.

Fan-based income is only a small proportion of a club's overall money at any level of football above the Championship in England due to the tv deals. So whilst it "ain't rocket science", it also "ain't true". Wigan seem to be coping up there on small crowds and have done for the last 7 seasons.

So find a better record?

Agree that the next two seasons are pivotal for the future...I do believe that we have largely bought players who will be able to make the step-up so, if so, the investment will be spread over additional seasons making it look like bargain money!

Eh? I was talking about the top six of the championship. Have a word with yourself.

Don't try and pretend I'm one of those that expects us to be challenging for the Champion's League any time soon.

Cortese/Adkins (and Pardew) has got us to a level just below our par (our par is the range between bottom half prem and top half championship).

If we're challenging for promotion next season, as Millwall, Leeds and Norwich were this season, then we're really in business.

Getting promoted from the third tier is only just the start, as Nicola Cortese would no doubt agree.

Wow, 1 hour for the webmong response. You're slipping.

You wont hear me moaning though...

It's a valid point though. One shirt a season @ £40 hardly breaks the bank, but a ticket tax and an increased ticket price for a fan that already spends hundreds of pounds a year makes a big difference.

bit quiet at work Turkish ? ;)

for wot its worth, i like him as he just gets on with the job. would like a bit more communication but its not that bad a price to pay for success.

PS. why dont people like the Cortese song ? is it the actual song or the fact its about the chairman ?

Given the resouces at his disposal I don't think he has delivered any less than what he and we expected. Netx year will be a lot tougher, espcially if we don't have a huge amount of cash at our disposal and the true test will be how he fairs when we do get promoted back to the premiership.

So far so good, but we still have a long way to go and I think we will see what he is really made of next season.

Uhm... agreed to some extent, and whilst we need to keep it all in perspective, cant see there is anything wrong in admiring and celebrating success... we can afterall the target was promotion, we cant majically get promoted from L1 to the prem directly or something equally silly... ;-)

Not sure its just Saints fans, but we do seem to have a culture oif 'down playing' or being negative about success... 'its only L1, should be expected' etc, which is of course true, but way too dismissive. There is a huge amount to be GAINED from a positive attitude, letting teh god will factor of ANY success, add to the momentum, success breeds success and we should all be jumping on that bus.

No disrespect to Nicola Cortese (who I rate as a top man) ...but as for best record as a chairman...(?)

George Reader, (Chairman in the McMeneny era) saw over an FA Cup win 1976 and promotion (back) up to Div.1 (Prem) in 1977-78.

Still it's early days yet.....well done NC.

George Reader saw us promoted to the top flight. Will Cortese? Lots of people have decided it is a simple inevitability that we are definitely going up to the Prem under Cortese and therefore he is an all-time Saints legend. It hasn't actually happened yet.

Promotion from League One for a club like Southampton is not that much of an acheivement. Making out it is just makes us look like a two-bit small time Noddy club.

yes.

how long did other 'big' clubs who found themselves in 3rd tier take to get promoted?

If he is playing hardball over Chamberlain leaving, another plus on his CV as far as I am concerned.

Absolutely correct !

Those clubs think nothing of spending £20M+. on foreign players....if Alex develops as well as everyone suggests ...he'll be a steal at £15M.
