Because their capital costs are paid for by council tax payers - you and me. Factor that in and maybe they're not so cheap. Unfair competition which should be illegal.

So you'd rather pay them redundancy and unemployment than offer them new income streams which would make them less of a burden [sic] ? For way too long the outdated anti competition rules have stifled LG's abilities to become more accountable and compete in the free market. We can't have it all ways and I do accept yor point it's just that I am subject myself to some of the new 'visions' in my dept. and am genuinely excited at the prospect.
