Who's going to be supporting United tonight?

I thought Giggs, Carrick and Evra were f**king awful tonight. The only Manyoo player to show his class was Rooney, and the only one to put the work in was Park. I thought van der Sar should have done better for Messi's goal.

Barcelona were putting strings of 30 passes together. They p*ssed on Manyoo from a great height.

The ref made some odd decisions though. Was completely star-struck.

Pah. Barca were lucky. If they'd had to play us this season they'd have never made it.

All those saying they're the best team in the world - krap.

Did they play us? No.

Why? 'Cos they know we'd have whooped their asses & were scared of us.

Lallana & Oxo would have torn them to shreds, Messi wouldn't have got a touch with MS controlling the midfield. And NA wouldn't have picked such a krap midfield as SAF.

Admit it Fergie - you ain't gonna get anywhere near them so pack it in now and start the Manc demise so we can take over after they sack your next 2 replacements.

I lolled at Andy Townsend claiming the first goal was "too easy" and that the pass was straightforward. As if that bellend would've spotted the pass, let alone executed it perfectly - class from Xavi.

Iniesta was brilliant tonight too.

I can't remember seeing a team as good as this. They regularly have 90%+ of a match go exactly how they want it. And against the best opposition too.

What an incredible team Barcelona are quite possibly the best club side i've ever seen and Messi is quick becoming the kind of player that you talk about in the same breath as Channon or Le Tissier

Agree with you in principle about Messi, and it was a bit like watching Saints at times tonight, but have edited your post for you.

If there has been a better European team in the 40 years I've been watching football I've must have missed them because this Barca team are simply outstanding. Messi gets the headlines but Xavi is totally unplayable.

Xavi is probably the best MF player and passer in Europe at the moment.

One thing I did notice, that despite his admiration of MLT, he continually opts for a short corner, probably copying Alan Ball here. I'm sure Adkins & Crosby will drum this out of him when he joins us and he'll be putting in better corners into the box.

I enjoy watching both teams and am certainly not an ABU like so many, but Barca were unplayable tonight. Thought they may be vulnerable without Puyol, but a team has to have the ball to be able to attack a possibly weakened defence. Messi is just ridiculous to watch and Xavi & Iniesta aren't too shabby either.

I guess every generation thinks that their stand out club side is the best ever, but I think there is an argument for the current Barca side joining other candidates such as Milan in the late 80s, Liverpool in the late 70s/early 80s, Ajax & Madrid. Can never be answered but strong case for the Catalans

Well, I was cheering for Barcelona and delighted that they gave ManUre an absolute spanking. It was probably the most one-sided match at the top level that I have ever seen. The match statistics showed that Barcelona had twice the possession for most of the match and many more times the shots on goal. They were majestic.

Why was I so happy with Barcelona humbling the England Champions? Well, half of the ManUre team aren't English anyway. But the main reason is that I love to see them beaten because of all their plastic glory hunter supporters in this country and around the World. I'd love nothing more than ManUre being beaten more regularly by other Premiership teams and more European teams, because I know that their plastic fans will desert them and either support the more successful teams like Barcelona, or heaven forbid, perhaps even their local team.

Ever since I saw the coaches outside St Mary's or before that The Dell, arriving from suburbs of Manchester like Margate, Truro, Milton Keynes and Birmingham, I began to loathe and detest their fans. I'll certainly have a lovely time during the next few days seeing some of them around town and saying "Barcelona" in a loud voice as they pass by.

Exactly....

When it was Villa, Liverpool or Forest full of Brits playing, then I was right behind them. This lot are a multi national Company that happen to be based in England. Their supporters sing about Argentina, and "We're Man Utd, we do as we want", and then expect us to support them. ********, I hope they have a heart breaking defeat.

And ManUre's other great chants such as:

"You can stick your f*ckin England up your arse"

"Let's All Laugh At England"

"We hate England"

Etc

Well done Barca - you did the football world a favour!

Didn't see much diving from Barce last night although that probably had a lot to do with the other team not going out to kick them Billy Davies style like Real Madrid did. Barce even won playing ugly as Real's tactics backfired.

But you look at the English players in that Man U side

Ferdinand - couldn't cope

Carrick - Completely outclassed

Scholes - A cameo in chasing shadows

Rooney - Well taken goal but largely invisible

It was an illustration of just how far we are behind Spain in terms of quality, and with some of our best players are on the wrong side of 30 it doesn't look too good from a national perspective

United were crushed like a tin can under the boot of Barcelona.

Barcelona's defence never really looked troubled, probably because the ball was so rarely at their end.

Barcelona's attack was permanently menacing, the fact that they only scored 3 was great credit to Ferdinand, Vidic and Van der Saar who I thought all had outstanding games.

However it was the midfield where United were flattened like a pancake. The Barca dominance was almost total.

How does anyone beat them?

I suppose by closing them down and not letting them have the space and time to pass the ball around. ManUre started the match doing that and dominated the first 10 minutes. Then, for some inexplicable reason, they stopped doing it and Barcelona then took over domination.

Arsenal played to their max and Barca didn't. Arsenal were handed a footballing lesson at the away leg.

after missing a golden chance or two in the nou camp then a van persie ridiculous sending off....im sure barca would have won anyway but arsenal did beat them and showed how this team can be beaten...they matched them in the midfield that night this season (at arsenal).......trouble is, barca are better up front

The thing is with Barca is how good they are when they haven't got the ball.

I watched a documentary about their academy and one of the rules that all Barca players are taught is that no opposition player is allowed more than 3 seconds on the ball before they are challenged.

They close down and press so high up the pitch that the top 3 are the first line of defence and they force opposition defenders and defensive midfielders to make so many mistakes and then punish them.

433 will always beat 442 and SAF made the same mistakes last night that Capello did against Germany in the WC in so much as that midfields were totally overrun.

Any team can beat any team, look at us against Utd over the years, but beating Barca, in their current form, relies on them not being at their ruthless best, the same as when we beat Utd.

3 league titles in a row and 2 European Cups in 3 years shows how good they are.

I did want Man U to win because they do have a few English players but it was fantastic watching them get ripped apart. They didn't even get close and it's good that they get to know their place in the food chain.

The manner of the defeat did rather confirm the depressing fact that English people are not very good at football though.

Not really, we are sh!t, and barring one lucky win with home advantage half a century ago, always have been.

****.....how can you come to that conclusion on a thread about last night..?

barcelona would beat every international team also..apart from their own where they pretty much are the national team...well, with messi, they probably would

I came to that conclusion long ago.

we are crap as a nation as from the top we are appalling..i mean, look at the capello fiasco...also, why do we need a super-coach at internationl level..?

the leading nations dont..they hire a hero, a talisman and let him inspire the players.......do the best we have need "coaching"..? are they going to get better when they are away for a week with england..?

IMO, we should just give the job to beckham, let him get on with it and dont over, and over and over analyse everything......

then you have the mong fans....every call in show is the same.."just need paaaaassion"...ffs, skill and brilliance is what wins mostly....not fecking english passion...

sure it helps in situations but ffs....

just look at the pure stick wenger gets from the press....why, because he has not won a trophy for a few years..so what..?

in wilshere, is has brought through a player who will be the only player that could hold his own against the likes of barca...as already shown..but wenger still gets slated for not having a lump at the back etc...as 3rd or 4th is a failure......

attitudes in this country need to change from top to bottom for the national team to be great....sadly, when you look at little old southampton, you can see how militant fans are against change..no matter how subtle....just magnify that the bigger the club

Change the way the kids are taught and it will help.

Reduce the amount of games and foreigners in the Prem and it will help.

I still think that there is only so much we can do though, I think it's genetics, English people just don't have good football skills. We've got some good players but none with the touch and flair of the best South Americans or Continentals.
