You should work for BBC/Sky! Their lack of research is shocking, the amount of times they've said ''he'll be a bargain free for someone.."

TBF that's what i was going on, the commentary today

You can't argue that the play offs are unfair - of course they are. However, Huddersfield wouldn't have complained last season if they'd got promoted and neither would any other side in the play offs. Everyone knows the score at the start of the season so it's no shock, and it does two things; it makes the league exciting right up until the final game and the play offs are undeniably gripping. The play offs whilst unfair are a good thing.

Sorry Revolution, but I just think it is simply money grabbing by the FL, on fans in particular, additionally the old system worked extremely well for many years, Q.E.D if its not broke why fix it, hence my synical view of the FL, and the only people it really excites is the winner of what is no more than a lottery in my opinion.

its a bloody disaster zone! all their fans are still travelling back and all there is Udders-haters!

funny though!

Oldham seem to have a problem with them, bit weird unless it's just a 'roses' thing.

My S-I-L and Grandson are/were STHs for Posh and are now on the way home from OT. General opinion is that C.Mc.S is on the way to St.Marys. Don't know what the 'fee' is yet.

PS You're nearly there Dave. Do I get a pint?

I'll buy you a brew 1st home game when we are all actually there and not off on our jollies!

Boll ocks. The old system was ' broke'. Too many meaningless games for too many teams every season. The

Play offs are brilliant. It's churlish and childish to call it 'money grabbing'. Torquay v stevenage? That's a right money spinner ain't it? The Play offs are brilliant for english football. Get over it.

I liked the playoffs when preston spunked it and we had a shot of going up

Typical Saints fans. No disappointment for us this year, so we go looking on the playoff losers' forum to feed our cravings. ;)

Wow, that Oldham fan is a pr1ck though. I'd have expected sh*t from teams like Leeds, Weds, Blades and Bradford more than anything.

The old system was not broke. Its just sad these days that the FL have to pander to a generation of people who don't understand that merit over a full season is what football leagues are all about, and need the instant gratification of an exciting knock-out competition to keep the interest up to the end of the season. There is no point playing a season of 46 games to see who gets the most points and then saying that 4th, 5th and 6th get another chance because "it keeps up the excitement to the end of the season". It is just a way to reward teams who don't have the mental toughness to succeed over a full season.

Can't deny though that most of the semi-finals at least were gripping. Udders v Boscombe was one of the best games I've seen (ever). The finals (so far) have been a huge disappointment, mostly because in my opinion the wrong teams have won. So I guess Swansea will win tomorrow to complete the set.

isnt football an entertainment business..?

P'boro chairman on SSN saying that basically there are 11 clubs interested in CMS, including a Prem teams and "big" clubs in the Ch'ship. To paraphrase- "let the auction begin".

Posted

Gutted for Huddersfield, they were resilient during the run in, but they had too many draws and seem to have been a team to defend and hope for a goal on the break? Not a great strategy against Peterborough, but what is I suppose...

Not sure we'll get CMS, there'll be alot of teams interested, West Ham (with their parachute payments) lower level PL clubs like Wolves. It'll be a tough auction.

yeah ..go ahead.

As soon as they sell him... they'll be on the way back down to L1.

I think that they should do away with the semi-finals and have all 4 teams competing in a Royal Rumble style game. The game will be played on a square pitch with a goal on each side of the square. Each goal is assigned to one of the 4 teams. Each team have to defend their goal and score goals in each of the other 3 goals. The first team to score in all 3 goals without conceding is the winner. If they concede, then they are reset and then have to score in all 3 goals again. It would mean that teams would then go and defend another team's goal if a team looks like winning. There would be all sorts of interesting tactics. The game could last 5 minutes or it could last 5 days.

I think that you could be onto something there - or is that on something ;)

I feel gutted for Huddersfield, but on the bright side....

After the wonders that Fergie Jnr worked for PNE in the Champ last season, and after they have sold CMS, I can see Posh giving Poopey a strong fight for 24th place next season.

I won't deny it's unfair, or that it's a money spinner but under the old system the season did peter out for mid table teams and resulted in boring meaningless games. This is far better although it's a right kick in the teeth for Hudders right now.

bet if you did a poll of fans of league teams, the playoffs would get a high level of support.

The system need to allow for enough movement between divisions.

in a 24 team league its possible that 4 up and 4 down would be better. ( why are there 4 down from L1 but only 3 down from the NPC).

The playoff system also need tweaking in favour of the 3rd placed team...although that wouldn't have saved huddersfield.

anyway, bad luck to hudders....awful to not go up with 87 points, but if they are good enough they will get out next season..iMO they need to lash out some cash on one class striker.

Feel so sorry for Huddersfield. Can't stand Fergie Jnr

Ditto.

Gutted for Huddersfield.

Would be very pleased to take CMS off their hands.

.

Would prefer Pilkington from Huddersfield - injury permitting, but CMS would be a good option as well.

The Huddersfield fans must be gutted. I did get the impreesion that the team were running out of steam and Peterborough always have goals in them but it is a harsh way to end a terrific season for them. I am just glad that we didn't have to go through that lottery again. It was bad enough the last time. Is it about "entertainment" or about the best teams going up? I know which way I would vote if it were us and not Huddersfield in their place tonight.

Geeze we really do have some totally mong fans:

Luckily Gemmel has been on and represented what we all hopefully feel about the mong that posted this rubbish, and Huddersfield Town in general.

At the end of the day the playoffs are a lottery - we all know that, but it's bloody hard to take when you finished 8 points in front of the team that is going up in 'your place'.

**** Huddersfield, **** the playoffs, and **** any batty-ass chi chi man Saints fan with any faux sympathy. Aaaaagggghhhhj!

Well I've had an unbelievable weekend of betting:

Barcelona to win

Barcelona to win and Messi to score

P'Boro to win and CMS to score

Rep. of Ireland to win and Keane to score

Inter Milan to win

Was let down by Torquay but still cleared enough for a S/T next year. So what's everyone's thoughts on Swansea V Reading? I'd probably go for Reading but not too sure.....luck's got to run out soon so might sit this one out....

Posted

Went along to the game as a 'neutral' but sat with the hudd fans and was genuinely gutted for them. They had massive support on the day, but pboro were just too good in the end. Not the best £40 I've ever spent though....

Posted

Bloke I'm working with is a staunch Reading fan.

I've warned him that they need to win today or they can kiss goodbye to 6 points next season.

People have short memories

The system was 'broke', that's why they were introduced.

Clubs couldn't make ends meet. If you look at FL attendances, compared to the 80's when they were introduced, they have risen dramatically.

Clubs in mid-table in 1985 had nothing to play for from Feb onwards, and attendances reflected that, where as these days they can still sneak into the play-offs

Long live the play-offs!!

If anyone doesn't know how it works here in Oz, and I think in US - the 'winners' of the division (most sports have only one top flight I think) are termed the 'minor-premiership' winners, then it all goes back to knock out, just like RL and RU? in UK. The most coveted trophy is the Grand Final in any sport - so you have to win loads of games during the season and still do a knockout at the end - what a way for City to stick one on Man U in the final game of the season!

Because the Grand Final is perceived the major win, it really does test the resolve of the team which finishes top during the regular season. Sacrilege as it may be, I am thinking this could work in the Prem.
