Lighthouse Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Think Posh will be fighting Pompey for that wooden spoon next season. More so if CMS gets a big offer from somewhere else. Good for Saints, but very harsh on the Udders.
saint_jas Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Kind of so glad I didn't bet on sport this weekend... Would have had webber to win F1, Torquay, huddersfield, reading for play-offs, barca for euro, cricket draw...
rallyboy Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 sorry for Huddersfield fans, their brilliant season has ended in the most depressing way. Unbelievable that their unbeaten run has delivered nothing. That said, I'm looking forward to taking maximum points off Peterborough.
Jimmy_D Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 And so Huddersfield's unbeaten run comes to an end at the worst possible time for them. Some people say that the semi final of a cup is the worst possible match to lose... but it isn't. Losing a play off final... to get so close and then have to go through an entire season in the same league again...
SaintBobby Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Gutted for Hudderfield. Very, very unlucky. They would have had to get 96 points to go up this year...
Thedelldays Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 poor huddersfield.....going on a record breaking unbreaten run that would normally see them easily promoted...trouble, they faced a saints team who were completely ruthless
Jimmy_D Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 poor huddersfield.....going on a record breaking unbreaten run that would normally see them easily promoted...trouble, they faced a saints team who were completely ruthless Seems strange to hear a Saints team talked about like that... but you're right! Have to admit I'm glad I'm not a moderator on the Huddersfield forum at the moment!
beatlesaint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 If I was a Huddersfield fan I would be bloody fuming. How the hell can you play one striker (and a crap one at that) up on his own against a team that everybody knows cannot defend ? You have to play 2 strikers against them, Clark has been very naieve here i think. Championship teams will tear this lot to shreds and without MS up front they could well be the whipping boys of the league. I feel sorry for the Huddersfield fans but oh boy Lee, you screwed that up good and proper.
LGTL Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Hudds were absolutely terrible and got what they deserved. I thought they were lucky to get past Bournemouth. Still, a good result for Saints I think.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 I think I posted on here that Poro would win the play-offs and I'm gutted I've been proven right. Horrible little team who don't deserve promotion
Saint J 77 Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 God I hate Darren Ferguson, I hope they lose all their best players over the summer. I feel sorry for Huddersfield, but just goes to show we needed second place or that could have been us losing today. So glad we avoided this.
saint boggy Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 ahh, absolutely gutted for Huddersfield.....an absolutely BRILLIANT run of form ,to run dry at the crucial time must be heartbreaking.......League 1 champions next year though.......
The Hoff Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 What's all this about CMS 'definitely' leaving? Have I missed something here?
LGTL Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 What's all this about CMS 'definitely' leaving? Have I missed something here? He confirmed it (pretty much) in his interview before the game. He will leave, no question.
revolution saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Feel sorry for Huddersfield, they should have gone up. That said I always thought P'boro would win and I'm 90 quid up so combined with Barca last night my season ticket fund for next season is looking good.
david in sweden Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 ahh, absolutely gutted for Huddersfield.....an absolutely BRILLIANT run of form ,to run dry at the crucial time must be heartbreaking.......League 1 champions next year though....... hard luck 'Udders, but why did Lee Clark leave his best strikers on the bench?
beatlesaint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 What's all this about CMS 'definitely' leaving? Have I missed something here? They need the money, Barry Fry and Fergie have both said he will be gone.
saint_jas Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 What's all this about CMS 'definitely' leaving? Have I missed something here? Not signed his contract, so probably heading to Norwich.... or maybe us, I hope
sidthesquid Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 This was my nightmare scenario for us. Thank F*** we kept it going. Such a great run & all for nothing. Sorry for Udds, their supporters seemed unusually enlightened on their Down at the Pharm site.
david in sweden Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 completely undeserved promotion. Horrible kittle c of a manager too. Huddersfield were never going to win though, not after such a long unbeaten run. They really deserved promotion too, p'boro were way way off that quality. Their defence will get annihilated in the championship too. hopefully !!
martel Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Completely undeserved promotion. Horrible kittle C of a manager too. Huddersfield were never going to win though, not after such a long unbeaten run. They really deserved promotion too, p'boro were way way off that quality. Their defence will get annihilated in the championship too. I have to agree with all of the above, I am gutted for the Huddersfield fans, on a personal note I hate the whole play off system; the whole idea of having a league is to see who comes out top at the end of the season; WHY turn it into a knockout after the league has ended, totally unfair in my opinion and should be dumped ASAP, to any Huddersfield fan that reads this then you have my total sympathy, lets hope Peterborough come down, as you go up, automatically next season.
Nexstar Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Feel so sorry for Huddersfield. Can't stand Fergie Jnr
SuperSAINT Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Gutted for Huddersfield. Would be very pleased to take CMS off their hands. As a side-note, Tomlin & Wesolowski are 2 of the fattest footballers I've ever seen.
shurlock Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 (edited) Hudds were absolutely terrible and got what they deserved. I thought they were lucky to get past Bournemouth. Still, a good result for Saints I think. Agree- they weren't that great during their long, unbeaten run either - just dogged and tremendously reslient. Should have fallen off the pace alot earlier. Speaks volumes that they generally only play with one CF - their first instinct is not to lose games and contain teams. Only needed a one-off game to expose their limitations, especially a team that scores goals for fun. As much as I think Fergy is a c**t, the better footballing side went up. Edited 29 May, 2011 by shurlock
Hopkins Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Annoyed my FA Cup, Champions League and Play Off finals accy came to an end...then realised I had a few quid on 3-0 to Peterborough and CMS any time scorer to cover it. Happy days.
S-Clarke Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 That's why I'm glad we avoided the playoffs. Being one of the best teams over the course of the season counts for nothing. Huddersfield froze in the semi's last year and I have to say they froze for the majority of this game as well. Very little from them. From our point of view we have a very weak team following us up, a team that will be even weaker when Mackail-Smith goes. They will do well to finish mid-table next year.
Cabrone Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Man alive, that's tough on Hudders. Soooooooo glad we pipped them to 2nd as I'd have been extremely nervous myself facing CMS+Boyd this afternoon. Wonder what the CMS situation will be now?
Saints foreva Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Phew, that could have been us. Feel sorry for Huddersfield, I'm sure they'll keep the majority of their squad and build on for next season. Posh have a fair bit of work to do, especially if they lose CMS and Boyd.
Thedelldays Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 how on earth is that afobe fella better than rhodes..? posh will have had an excellent season if they stay up... they will down the bottom with barnsley, donny, pompey and palace
S-Clarke Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Man alive, that's tough on Hudders. Soooooooo glad we pipped them to 2nd as I'd have been extremely nervous myself facing CMS+Boyd this afternoon. Wonder what the CMS situation will be now? He will leave, Ferguson pretty much confirmed it 5mins ago and Mackail-Smith is on the pitch waving goodbye to the fans.
revolution saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 I have to agree with all of the above, I am gutted for the Huddersfield fans, on a personal note I hate the whole play off system; the whole idea of having a league is to see who comes out top at the end of the season; WHY turn it into a knockout after the league has ended, totally unfair in my opinion and should be dumped ASAP, to any Huddersfield fan that reads this then you have my total sympathy, lets hope Peterborough come down, as you go up, automatically next season. You can't argue that the play offs are unfair - of course they are. However, Huddersfield wouldn't have complained last season if they'd got promoted and neither would any other side in the play offs. Everyone knows the score at the start of the season so it's no shock, and it does two things; it makes the league exciting right up until the final game and the play offs are undeniably gripping. The play offs whilst unfair are a good thing.
Saint_Jonny Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Feel so gutted for Huddersfield, on the back of the season they've had, they should have gone up. Still, at least I can claim to support a far superior club at uni next season
mitch01 Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 That is what I was afraid of happening to us. Gutted for Huddersfield, thought they would turn the screw in the second half.
IFHP Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Completely undeserved promotion. Horrible kittle C of a manager too. Huddersfield were never going to win though, not after such a long unbeaten run. They really deserved promotion too, p'boro were way way off that quality. Their defence will get annihilated in the championship too. Underserved why? Peterborough went up fair and square by gaining enough points to reach the play offs scoring over 100 goals. Then getting the right results in the play offs. Whether you agree with the play-offs or not they are here to stay (and have been here for 20 odd seasons). Huddersfield were unbeaten in 2011 which is bloody good going just a shame for them that they drew too many games, I think about 10 in total, in that run. Saints were a point behind Huddersfield when they began their unbeaten run and lost 3 times and drew 3. As the old saying goes it’s better to lose one and win one than draw two..
Kingsland Nick Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 I bet Huddersfield wish the play-offs had been in April. Four games in May, no wins - hardly promotion form.
1976_Child Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 That makes me laugh! They had 27 unbeaten run and could never get their noses in front of us and now they are stuck in league 1 !!! The arrogance of their fans thinking it was their god given right to succeed in L1. Well I guess they have to eat a whole load of humble yorkshire pie now. Well done Posh though. Irrespective of who their manager is, they deserve it.
Jimmy_D Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 It took an absolutely incredible run for us to avoid that... And I am so incredibly thankful we managed it. See that apparently there was fighting/missile throwing among the Hudds fans after the match.
hasper57saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 My S-I-L and Grandson are/were STHs for Posh and are now on the way home from OT. General opinion is that C.Mc.S is on the way to St.Marys. Don't know what the 'fee' is yet. PS You're nearly there Dave. Do I get a pint?
Thedelldays Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 im going to have a look at the DATM forum... its not pretty
SO16_Saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 My S-I-L and Grandson are/were STHs for Posh and are now on the way home from OT. General opinion is that C.Mc.S is on the way to St.Marys. Don't know what the 'fee' is yet. PS You're nearly there Dave. Do I get a pint? Is he not a free agent?
Matthew Le God Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Is he not a free agent? No, his contract at Peterborough ends on 30th June 2012.
saints-cris Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 its not pretty Was just about to look myself.. im guessing its as ugly as you'd expect though.
benjii Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Their own fault. I watched them against Bournemouth in the semis and they were rubbish. Sounds like they were poor again today. Saints and Brighton are far better.
S-Clarke Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 No, his contract at Peterborough ends on 30th June 2012. You should work for BBC/Sky! Their lack of research is shocking, the amount of times they've said ''he'll be a bargain free for someone.."
hasper57saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 Is he not a free agent? Is anyone 'free' in todays football?
SO16_Saint Posted 29 May, 2011 Posted 29 May, 2011 No, his contract at Peterborough ends on 30th June 2012. Ah, thought it expired this summer. Fee wise? £2m?
