Appy Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Thats a bit better. Edge of the seat stuff though as usual.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Very happy with that! A point up there is a very good one indeed.
exit2 Posted 21 October, 2008 Author Posted 21 October, 2008 happy with a point! We actually defended!
madruss Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Decent, battling performance by the sound of things. Considering we'd conceeded 7 goals in the two games prior to this, a shut-out at Bramall Lane is an encouraging result
alpine_saint Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Good point. Well deserved. Hope Poortvillet has learned a thing or two tonight. Reckon with Schneiderlin, Euell and Thomas coming back, we might finally get somewhere.
Nexstar Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 W00t! Turned SSn off for last 5 mins, couldn't bear it
Window Cleaner Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 happy with a point! We actually defended! And quite a bit as well.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Much better, shame that Olly took a red though. let's not get too too too excited! These lads have a long hard road to travel. Well done Saints!
Calvin Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 I feel very happy about the result and the performance. It was played at a much better level. was nice to mix to experience with youth as it did work. I for one actually felt a little scared in whether we will lose or not but in the end we drew which is fantastic. Well done to Kelvin Davis and Olly for saving us.
Micky Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 If you had offered me a point before the game Id have ripped your arm off - well happy thanks. Sounded like we rode our luck a little, KD sounds to have played a blinder again, Ollies early bath appears the only downside at the moment.
Calvin Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Good point. Well deserved. Hope Poortvillet has learned a thing or two tonight. Reckon with Schneiderlin, Euell and Thomas coming back, we might finally get somewhere. What is there to learn exactly? Listen to his own heart rather than Rupert? stand up to Rupert?
Window Cleaner Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Much better, shame that Olly took a red though. let's not get too too too excited! These lads have a long hard road to travel. Well done Saints! Don't think he had much choice, sounded like the bloke was clean through on the edge of the box.Have to see if it's a second yellow or a straight red.
saintjay77 Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 a point is better than none and I would rather see us grind out a few 0-0's before we start to hit teams on the break and look for the fast flowing football stuff. Its a bit wierd feeling glad to have Kelvin on the team sheet though.
trousers Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Pat on the back for Ollie for earning us a point at the death. Did Skacel make a difference? Only caught the last 20 mins or so
um pahars Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Sounded like a gritty, backs to the wall performance, so well done to everyone. Maybe adding some experience to the team worked tonight (note to Jan please).
rocknrollman no2 Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 For the first time ever,i didnt listen to the radio and bingo,we didnt lose. Will have to try that again. Im very happy with a draw.
Scudamore Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Reckon with Schneiderlin, Euell and Thomas coming back, we might finally get somewhere. Agreed. Certainly feel that Thomas would have made a difference to at least one of those comical goals on Saturday... Let's make sure we follow it up with a good game on Saturday...
Window Cleaner Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Pat on the back for Ollie for earning us a point at the death. Did Skacel make a difference? Only caught the last 20 mins or so Think he kicked 2 off the line, but the Sheff commentator was a bit excitable and didn't always make it clear who did what for Saints.
mprobert Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 so 4 clean sheets in the last 7 games for this disaster of a defence
Calvin Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 For the first time ever,i didnt listen to the radio and bingo,we didnt lose. Will have to try that again. Im very happy with a draw. It is not about you, ginger ninja!
trousers Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 so 4 clean sheets in the last 7 games for this disaster of a defence Hmmm.....when you put it like that......
Jonnyboy Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Sounded like a decent performance AND good management from JP!
saintjay77 Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Don't think he had much choice, sounded like the bloke was clean through on the edge of the box.Have to see if it's a second yellow or a straight red. I heard the tatters say he was already on a yellow then the next thing they said was "its a Red" Dont think he had much choice though from the sounds of it. he would have got slated if he did nothing and they scored.
Window Cleaner Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 so 4 clean sheets in the last 7 games for this disaster of a defence Wasn't the same defence tonight though.
derry Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Don't think he had much choice, sounded like the bloke was clean through on the edge of the box.Have to see if it's a second yellow or a straight red. Second yellow, good battling result. Davis came for some crosses.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 A good point and encouraging clean sheet. It's Lee Holmes, Euell and Schneiderlin that I want back in the side ASAP.
hypochondriac Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 so 4 clean sheets in the last 7 games for this disaster of a defence Yes but it's the other games that are the concern!
trousers Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Davis came for some crosses. Wow! Is it a full moon or something?!
Arizona Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Amazing what adding a couple of experienced players can do for a side. For a team which will be battling relegation this season, a point up there is a very good one. I just hope the appearances of John and Skacel weren't a one off and whoever was responsible for their exclusion has seen the light.
Bailey Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Good effort, happy with a point. Would have taken that at the start anyway! Seems as though Olly 'took one for the team' so maybe not a bad thing after all. A solid defensive display which is encouraging. Still a long way to go but it's a start. Bring on Swansea.
The Worm Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 a point away to sheffield united is a good result
mprobert Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Yes but it's the other games that are the concern! I know its against the rules, but I was just trying to look on the positive side. Lets be happy with a point.....though it did sound a bit like a Kelvin masterclass
explorer saint Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 You'll never win anything with kids! Think JP can now see this
Sundance Beast Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Excellent stoical performance and showed they can cope with pressure unlike this much lauded new website that seems to struggle with the moaners logging in and at the ready to dip their pens in poison. For the vast majority who posted on the prediction thread I suspect will have a quiet and sheepish night. Leave the 5-0 tonkings to Burley and Pearson you great bunch of 'supporters'. That kind of resilience can only confirm that we will confidently survive this season without the need of other teams doing the business for us. Bootboy, No I fan and McEnemy - no thanks the new era is not without setbacks but continues to show enough unlike a lot of our fans who seem stuck in the 1980's.
The one and only Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Wooo, I'll take that, just a shame Barnsley and Norwich won. COYR!!!
Delmary Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Good result and great to see Chris Perry, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Rudi Skacel and Stern John back in the team. The youngsters have done well on their own but they need experience players along side them. Hopefully our Director of Football will now let JP run the first team without any interference.
Calvin Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 You'll never win anything with kids! Think JP can now see this and Rupert Lowe?
madruss Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Perhaps most remarkably of all... we successfully defended a whopping 14 corners!! A marked improvement from Saturday (2 goals conceeded from 3 corners or whatever it was)

hypochondriac Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Perhaps most remarkably of all... we successfully defended a whopping 14 corners!! A marked improvement from Saturday (2 goals conceeded from 3 corners or whatever it was) I believe it was three from three!
trousers Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 For the vast majority who posted on the prediction thread I suspect will have a quiet and sheepish night. Not at all. The reverse psychology worked a treat.
Barney Trubble Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Kelvin Davies is turning into a legend

Bootboy, No I fan and McEnemy - no thanks the new era is not without setbacks but continues to show enough unlike a lot of our fans who seem stuck in the 1980's. I think people had every right to be worried after the defending on display against Coventry and Watford. Tonight's result was a good one, but we've a long way to go before we can say for certain that relegation is not a likely outcome. The defence needs to perform consistently before we can start thinking about looking up the table instead of down
ulstersaint Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 A good defensive performance and much needed after the last two games and 7 goals conceded too easily. Hopefully it will build confidence. Would have taken 0-0 before kick off. Well done and thanks to Kelvin.
Calvin Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Kelvin Davies is turning into a legend The guy keeps on saving us each game. It's like he is running the team.
Delmary Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 and Rupert Lowe?I suspect that JP was forced by certain parties at St.Marys to play the youngsters. That strategy was a complete failure.
trousers Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 Kelvin Davies is turning into a leg end A tad harsh if you ask me....
madruss Posted 21 October, 2008 Posted 21 October, 2008 I believe it was three from three! Puts our penalty record to shame doesn't it!!
