Colinjb Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 I has it. Been unable to eat for a few days because it will cause a lot of 'issues.' I have been taking in water with rehydration salts constantly to give me a fighting chance. I therefore am in a case of catch 22. Need to eat to get strong, can't eat as it will 'set me off' again. Any 'safe' foods anyone could recommend?
Crab Lungs Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Soup would probably be your best bet, I would have thought. And if you can manage it, fruit.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 (edited) Soup would probably be your best bet, I would have thought. And if you can manage it, fruit. FRUIT?! That is the worse thing to give someone who has the ****s! I've had salmonella so I know what you're going through. If you can stomach it try some vitamin tablets and just drink plenty of water, although you're probably bringing that up as well? After about 7 days of non stop S&D I was able to manage one digestive...hopefully yours clears up long before then! FYI, if you continue to have 'the runs' long after you can stomach food, get up the doctors. My salmonella brought to the fore Ulcerative Colitis, which I suspect I suffered from mildly before that. bridge too far Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Nothing that will harbour bacteria. No milk, cheese etc I would have thought. But, if you're throwing up, apple juice is good (because of the pectin) and lemonade for some strange reason. Mr TF had bad food poisoning a few years back (from a sandwich he'd bought at work) and, to this day, he'll get bouts of nasty stomach cramps. Good luck

Colinjb Posted 25 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Nothing is coming 'up.' I am keeping the water down, it's just the other side effects that are a concern. Tried a dry cracker yesterday, yeah. Stomach pain and the squits followed. Thanks for the best wishes guys.
Huffton Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 What about flat coke? Its liquid (obviously) but the sugar and caffeine will give you a boost. You have my sympathies, I had campylobacter poisoning a few years ago and it was the worst thing I've ever had. It might be worth getting yerself to the docs as I carried on squitting for days after I was back on my feet, and ended up needing pills to fully clear it up. rallyboy Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 while we are being graphic and toilety - I wasn't too good the other night, in the morning I said to my missus, did you hear me go to the loo in the night? it might have sounded like I was just having a p!ss, well I wasn't..... Tips? Don't risk farting in public, don't go for any bike rides, don't wear white underwear and don't cough without bracing yourself. good luck
Baj Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 whatever you do, don't eat sweetcorn. I did that once. The stop, start, stop, start, stop, start, stop, start in the space of a few seconds whenever you have a poo is horrible. Sounded like a moped
dubai_phil Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Try and get Isotonic drinks down you. Your Isostar stuff is way too e-additive but maybe you can find Gatorade or Powerade. One day the marketing gurus of the world will allow you lot to buy this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocari_Sweat That is the perfect solution for squits. Something we get to learn to live with over here because of the weird mix of food types and heat. Visitors from home still gag at the thought of the first sip of sweat, but once tried - hooked. I have to bring loads of packets back every time I get home for the UK's addicts!
