VectisSaint Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 This is excellent news. Fitness is not the issue with DC, he is clearly very fit. If he can avoid injuries, and that is a lottery, then he will be a great asset in the Championship. When available he is arguably our most talented player outside of Lallana and Oxo, but when you add in his experience at this level he is a very valuable player to have in the squad. People moaning about his possible salary issues really need to understand where we are as a club right now, I suspect he is not on massive wages anyway, but there is little likelihood that he is blocking the way for some younger player. We can and do afford to have a bigger, deeper squad than others, as long as Adkins keeps the players happy then there is not an issue. as long as we are shot of disruptive egos like Puncheon there should be no problem. West End Saint Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Fantastic news DC is quality his runs & movement 1st class & a great finisher he did very well for us towards the end of this season scored some important goals. He will also be a very good experienced man to be around the squad the rest of our fowards could all learn from him very happy we have him for next season

david in sweden Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 I must admit, I am pretty unimpressed, I can't see him having another season in him, though qudos for how he ended this one. I just hope his wages do not detract from a new up and coming, chomping at the bit goal getter. There are quite a few people who thought that Kevin Phillips would disappear into the sunset when he left Saints, but he was still coming off the bench and knocking in goals for Brum - but despite their relegation - and he still looks sharp at 38. I don't expect DC to play till he's 38 but assuming he doesn't get any serious knocks he surely has a season or two left in him...?

lettuce Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Good news. Now he has left the treatment room.... Oh sod it Quality footballer. Michael Owen will be useful cover for him Potentially, Michael Owen could be the best footballer at the club, if he wasn't always in the treatment room. Cabrone Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Good player, just hope we can get enough games out of him. When fit he'd be in my 1st team.
Dazza82 Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Rumour in Chester is that Owen's going to Everton. Makes sense as he was a boyhood Everton fan Good news on DC
SNSUN Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 This is good news. A fit Connolly is like a new signing. I think it can only be a good thing having an ex-physio as manager, to use him sparingly but wisely a la Jaidi.

He had a quality end to the season for us, but remember, Phillips took a step down and realistically connolly is taking a step up. I just think the gulf between the NPC and League 1 is totally different.
Ewell Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 Great news. A class act and a player that like Lallana I love to watch play the game.

I just think the gulf between the NPC and League 1 is totally different. of course there is but not as big as that between CCC and Prem. However, Connollly has played at CCC level most of his career (and even a season or do in Prem, I think). He is also a past international for N.I. (sorry or is it the Republic ?)... anyway, he has a certain guile about him and I hope to see him banging in the goals next season (injuries permitting). Chez Posted 26 May, 2011 Share Posted 26 May, 2011 great news. For me his partnership with Lambert is much better than Barnard with Ricky. Fantastic first touch and just as busy as Barnard. Hope he can avoid injury next season as he was a joy to watch at the end of this season.
The Cat Posted 26 May, 2011 Share Posted 26 May, 2011 great news. For me his partnership with Lambert is much better than Barnard with Ricky He also links up better with Guly and especially Lallana than Barnard. His control and ability to play fast one touch passes in tight situations, especially with Lallana, makes us a much more potent attacking force. Some of the moves they put together on the left at the end of the season were pure quality and a joy to watch.

itchen_dan Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 interesting little dig at last years pre season.... Gonna say so myself. Would confirm alot of the stuff floating around about Lambert being worked too hard eg. Being injured for half the season. Pre season prep is vital

Deppo Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 I think resigning Connolly is a mistake. We''d have been better off signing someone with premiership or international experience.
