Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Great news and what a fantastic, genuine and positive interview from DC. Take note of Connolly's attitude, Punch....
dubai_phil Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Good news. Now he has left the treatment room.... Oh sod it Quality footballer. Michael Owen will be useful cover for him
scotty Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Excellent, Smithers. (rubs hands.) Really good news, I was hoping DC would be staying on. Just need to sort out a new song now, he wasnt keen on back from the dead was he
benjii Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 That explains the floodlights. Where will he fit in the team though? I don't think he and Owen would work very well and if we play both of those plus Lambert that means you have to leave out one of Guly, Lalalannas or Oxton-Chamberfield.
Lighthouse Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Good stuff, would hate for Lee Holmes to get lonely.
The9 Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Great news and what a fantastic, genuine and positive interview from DC. Take note of Connolly's attitude, Punch.... Hardly the same situation is it ? Connolly will take what he can get with his playing career near its end and Puncheon's playing at the highest he ever has and will probably want to not waste his career in a team's reserves if he can get a move. I'm not sure why anyone would want him to stay.
Saint J 77 Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Awesome News, if he stays fit he will be a big player for us next season.
westofshannonsaint Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Great news, I'm delighted DC is staying. I wonder if it's another PAYP deal?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Was excellent in the last few games of last season, definitely still a Championship player if fit. Great news.
Cestrian Saint Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Good news. Now he has left the treatment room.... Oh sod it Quality footballer. Michael Owen will be useful cover for him Rumour in Chester is that Owen's going to Everton.
Saint_Jonny Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Keeping the squad together, great news, absolute quality at the end of the season. Good stuff.
benjii Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Rumour in Chester is that Owen's going to Everton. That sounds pretty far fetched.
Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Hardly the same situation is it ? Connolly will take what he can get with his playing career near its end and Puncheon's playing at the highest he ever has and will probably want to not waste his career in a team's reserves if he can get a move. I'm not sure why anyone would want him to stay. I don't remember saying I wanted Puncheon to stay? Anyway, disagree - yes, their situations are different but Connolly said he's quite happy to work hard to get a chance in the first team if not selected; whereas Puncheon seemingly thought it was a birthright and got all sulky when he was benched.
Smirking_Saint Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I must admit, I am pretty unimpressed, I can't see him having another season in him, though qudos for how he ended this one. I just hope his wages do not detract from a new up and coming, chomping at the bit goal getter.
Saint_lambden Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Fantastic news. Is a class above on and off the pitch. No harm in keeping him on another year like Jaidi.
Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I must admit, I am pretty unimpressed, I can't see him having another season in him, though qudos for how he ended this one. I just hope his wages do not detract from a new up and coming, chomping at the bit goal getter. In the original article about unresolved contracts, it said it would be on the clubs terms...
Saint Charlie Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Excellent. Anyone who saw live his performances in the last 5 games knows this is a no brainer - he oozes class and a great option to have!
The9 Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I don't remember saying I wanted Puncheon to stay? I didn't say you did, but why would you care what his attitude was like otherwise ?
SFC Forever Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 DC is well worth keeping as he knows more than most championship players about linking play and makiong and scoring goals. If we can get 20 games out of him it will be a good deal.
corky morris Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I think that is a cracking deal for everyone...............If (?) he stays fit he is as good as any striker in the champ IMHO.
Pat from Poole Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I must admit, I am pretty unimpressed, I can't see him having another season in him, though qudos for how he ended this one. I just hope his wages do not detract from a new up and coming, chomping at the bit goal getter. But Connolly is an absolute class act, with Barnard injured he was our last hope last season and he came good big time. I think he is still a definite HCDAJFU, there aren't many players available as good as him.

Liquidshokk Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Great Stuff. think he is going to play a bigger part this coming season than many expect. Get the impression he will more suited to championship
Granadino Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Excellent. Anyone who saw live his performances in the last 5 games knows this is a no brainer - he oozes class and a great option to have! +1 - movement, vision, passion and liveliness second to none as soon as he was called upon. Well worth a 1 year deal. Very pleased.
Avenue Saint Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Pleased with this! Another sensible decision by the club...
LostBoys Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Very pleased - he was outstanding at the end of the season
shurlock Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 (edited) Very pleased -a decision based on logic not sentimentality. Barny's injury ultimately turned out to be a blessing in disguise - gave Connolly the chance to show the class he still has. Edited 25 May, 2011 by shurlock
BILLY Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Excellent news - he was brill at the end of last season. Hope NA plays him a bit more next season.
doddisalegend Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Good good - nice to see players really wanting to play for saints and seeing us as a good place to be, rather than a stop gap or final big pay day.
whelk Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Love DC so brilliant news and he has earned it. Guess heavily weighted on appearance bonuses. Mind I have no idea what we are paying our players
alpine_saint Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 +1. He was crucial in the run in, credit where its due. This.
Joesaint Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Great news, quality player. Barny is the same sort of player and will also improve with having DC around. COYS
dronskisaint Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Very good news - we have quality cover in most positions and he's earnt his place in the squad. Good attitude when not picked as well...there's a great ethos in the club now which will be needed to carry on the journey onwards and upwards. Loving all this!
del boy Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 excellent news. Puncheon should clean his boots. :d:d
Saint Lindford Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Great news as he had a tremendous run in the team towards the end of the season. All we need to sort out now are the season tickets, new kit and a couple of new signings. Happy Days... :-)
Saint Fan CaM Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Great signing. Trouble with being one of the more gifted/experienced players in a squad is that you can be rushed back from injury too quick which makes full and lasting recovery pretty much impossible. What Connolly got last year was an opportunity to put the injuries behind him - in his own words he said he was probably one of the fittest players in the squad towards the end of last season. And 34 is not too old if you've got a good football brain, which DC has. I think he will come back stronger next season and don't be surprised to see Lee B or even Rickie spend time on the bench to accomodate him.
Window Cleaner Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Excellent, I hope we've given him a good deal.
iansums Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 Why on earth wasn't this announced yesterday morning? This club treats its fans with utter contempt! .... sorry, I think I'm looking at TUI too much.
Charlie Wayman Posted 25 May, 2011 Posted 25 May, 2011 This is great news. David Connolly is a really nice bloke and will be good for the dressing room. He's a trier, he's blessed with rare skills and never stops running: let's wish him well with fitness this season. 20 goals from him and we should get the 46 points minimum we need to stay up. What a choice to have to make, David Connolly or Lee Barnard, two very similar types of players all fired up, that'll keep No 7 honest for sure although I don't see it as a problem as Ricky Lambert just keeps improving every game. In fantasy land I would prefer Michael Owen as the fox-in-the-box but for now David Connolly will do me just fine. I like him, I like his attitude, I love his goals - what's not to like?
