Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2011 Share Posted 24 May, 2011 Jesus, can Sky get any more up their arses? If the horrifying puke-worthy coverage all season isn't enough, they now see it fit to show Gary Neville's testimonial. Honestly, really... please tell me no-one is watching that crap? And in other news...: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13521267.stm I hope his son gets his arse kicked by 'Udders on Sunday, too. Now I remember why we enjoyed beating them so much! Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 24 May, 2011 Share Posted 24 May, 2011 I flicked over to it by accident looking for RoI v N.I and was greeting by Ian Brown butchering arguably one of the best songs The Stone Roses ever did. Bril. Also, 40,000 fans...either they don't like him, or it just shows that 30,000 of them are plastics (but then we knew that already I guess!) In a way, it's superb for a testimonial but for such a 'legend' surely he'd warrant more of a turnout? That said, I suppose Sky showing the game has probably put pay to any possibility of getting anywhere near capacity

Chorlton Posted 24 May, 2011 Share Posted 24 May, 2011 I think Gary Neville comes across as pretty sound actually. Think it may be fun if he ruffles a few feathers in his media role next season. Quite like reading his mock arguments and ****taking with his brother on Twitter as well. Aslo, didn't our long serving right back fail to get a sell out in his testimonial at The Dell? Turkish Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 I really dont understand the national obessession with hating all things Man Utd. Give them and Neville a f*cking break. They've been the most successful club of the last 20 years, have a superb manager who has built 4 different sides all quality, won everything there is to win and doesn't take any sh*t off players getting too big time and doesn't pander to the media. Neville, whilst not being the best player to ever play at Old Trafford has been a decent one club man who has given his all for his team and country and loves playing for them. You never hear stories of him fighting in night clubs, sh*gging whores or cheating on his wife, if you think he is a destestable human being you need to have a look at yourselves, he deserves a testimonal in the same way Jason Dodd and Benali deserved testimonials for us. IMO they are run and conduct themselves in a way every other club should aspire too, not hate. But then we hate them because as a nation we dont like winners do we, we like plucky losers. shurlock Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 (edited) http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/championsleague/story/ucl-final-manchester-united-americas-team-barcelona-catching-up-052411 More than enough reason to dislike them, though my problem is more with the fans than the team that has consistently played attractive football under ferguson. Still theyre no worse than chelski and the scousers. Neville has been a model pro and deserved his send-off, even if he did sometimes come across as a smarmy prefect doing his masters bidding. Hopefully Scholes, my fav out of that generation, finishes his career in a fitting way. At the mom, things risk tailing off and ending in a damp squib. Turkish Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 And what are the reasons to hate them? They've had two of the greatest managers in the history of English football. They've produced arguably the 3 finest home grown players in British football in the last 20 years in Scholes, Giggs and Beckham through their academy and add to this other players that have been signed as young players and developed like Ronaldo, Rooney, Keane and now Hernandez and Nani. I wonder what Fergie could have done with Gazza if he'd chosen United over Spurs. They've always played attractive attacking football and won things the right way, playing football, not grinding out wins playing negative football like Chelsea. Compared to Chelsea & Man City they haven't spent hundreds of millions buying the best players available. Fergie has nack of signing young players as mentioned above and moulding them into a superb team. You can argue their fans are arrogant, but i dont have a problem with arrogance when it's justifed, when it's not you look like a mug. Of course the other side of the coin with regard to their fans is that their travelling support is the best in the country, certainly the songs that they sing are original and copied by other clubs, ourselves included. The only reason people "hate" Man United is because they are big and successful club and as a nation we are conditioned to back the underdog and that continued success is in some way a bad thing. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Man United and they are the benchmark for what other clubs should aspire to reach.
knellster Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 I'm afraid I have never really understood all the admiration of Ferguson. He has traditionally spent more money than all of the other clubs, and as soon as Chelsea were able to match his buying power they won the league. I have also always been frustrated by the popularly held belief that they grow their own - sure they've produced some gems, but I would expect the line up on Saturday to be Van der Sar, Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Anderson, Carrick, Park, Nani, Rooney, Hernandez. Not a single player that wasn't bought from another club. Maybe Giggs or Scholes will play but that only gives them as many home grown players as Chelsea which is hardly anything to brag about. I'm assuming this is a joke. You seriously dont understand that the admiration for a manager that has won 12 league titles, two champions leagues, 5 FA Cups?!!! What has a manager got to do to impress you?! As for Chelsea, they've had more spending power than Man United over the last five years but United have won the title 4 out of the last 5 seasons FFS!!! It's not just his record trophy wise either. It's the way he deals with the players, looks after those that want to be there and jogs on anyone that gets too big time. There is no doubt he is the boss and has been on of the most successful managers of all time. Okay the team that will start on saturday doen't contain any home grown academy players but it includes Rafael, Anderson, Nani, Rooney and Hernandez all players signed as youngsters and apart from Rooney, relatively cheaply and moulded into the team that it is. You might not like the bloke but only an idiot would say he isn't a great manager, you dont survive for 24 years at Manchester united if you aren't. You also have to consider what he did at Aberdeen with a bunch of average players, he broke the Celtic/Rangers monopoly, lead them to a European trophy over a one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Is there anybody that truly believes that they would not want someone of Fergy's quality and personality managing saints, because I doubt if anyone would be complaining if it bought us success. View From The Top Posted 25 May, 2011 Share Posted 25 May, 2011 I do not like the Utd brand in the same way I didn't like the Liverpool brand back in the 80s. However, that doesn't stop me admiring SAL's record or the fact he's built so many teams or that they play a style of football that I love to watch. I have a number of Utd season ticket holders as mates, all of them have held them for way over 25 years and all dislike the "tourists" and they are just ordinary fans like the rest of us with one exception, they've had success. Lord Duckhunter Posted 26 May, 2011 Share Posted 26 May, 2011 Sitting here 25 years on running the richest club in the world it's quite hard to remember quite what Fergusion has achieved. The Man Utd he inherited hadn't won the league for 20 odd years and were in Liverpool's shadow. His reign has conincded with them becoming so rich that they should be winning European Cups and Premierships year after year, but it did not start out like that, and his sucsess has played a large part in the monster that is now Man U. Commercially Liverpool weren't at the races and grasped too late the modern football world, they may now never catch up. That said both his European Cup wins were lucky. BM should have been out of sight by the time they fluked those last 2 goals, as they completely outplayed Utd that day, and John Terry would put that peno away 9 times out of 10.I hope they get stuffed on Saturday and that his luck runs out. People used to like and respect Utd under Sir Matt, but SAF and their supporters attitude and behaviours mean that most neutrals will feel the same way. Turkish Posted 26 May, 2011 Share Posted 26 May, 2011 He may not be liked or popular but he is not there to be popular, he is there win things for Manchester United and love him or loathe him, everything he does are what he feels are in the best interests of Manchester United FC and his record proves that more often that not he gets it spot on. Unfortuantely at big clubs these days and with the ego of the modern players nices guys dont tend to last long there, Roy Hodgson & Claudio Raneri anyone? You need to be a bit of an 'orrible c*nt just to survive these days, thats the way it is. A lot of it is media driven these days anyway, Busby, Shankley and Paisley didn't have press conferences every five minutes and every word printed and in some cases twisted to mean something it's not. What would the papers make about the infamous football being more important than life or death comment? That's hailed as a genius quote from a legend of the past, but what would the PC media make of that these days had Ferguson said it? I'm sure some papers would have attempted to spin it somehow and showing how this proves football is out of control, too much money, too big egos and offensive to everyone in the world that has ever known anyone that has died etc etc
