If you post your good wishes I will pass them on to him. Remember that he was a fantastic asset to our club, his goals and effort kept us alive.

These days he is a widower living quietly in modest surroundings.

Thanks

Happy Birthday Ron - still the best header of the ball I've ever seen...in any shirt!

Thanks for the fantastic memories I have of that era...hope to see you at St Mary's soon.

Happy Birthday Ron, thanks for the great goals I had the pleasure to watch with my dad standing at the dell, you were the best CF in the world at that time.

As with most of the posts above - great childhood memories from The front steps of The Milton watching Ron knock in countless headers supplied by Paine and Sydenham.

Simply unrivalled as the best jumper and headerer of a ball ever. :adore: Loved getting The Matchday Programme each game and seeing yet another Big Ron leap and goal on the front cover.

All The Best Big Fella, thanks for the memories and hope you will get to visit SMS.:toppa:

"His name is Ronnie Davies - he's the leader of the team

He's the greatest centre forward that the world has ever seen,

You can always rely on him to score the vital goal

And as for Georgie Best you can stick him up yer hole ..... lalalala lalalalala lalalalalalalla etc.

Happy Birthday Ron. You made me a Saints fan for life.

BTW, what WERE you and Martin Chivers doing shopping in Edwin Jones at lunchtime on a matchday?

A very Happy Birthday, Ron. I'll never forget those four goals at Chelsea.......my first visit to Stamford Bridge. 6-2. Big Chiv with the other two and Ossie with Chelsea's two. Then met the team on waterloo Station. Not a bad day out. You are the best!

if you wear the red and white with pride you will never be forgotten, and you did - so once a Saint always a Saint - look forward to seeing you at SMS, Happy birthday Ron - and remember that you have more than 30,000 friends in Hampshire, and many more across the country.

Happy birthday Ron. Thanks for making the late sixties a great time to be a Saints fan.

My favourite ever Saints goal - your diving header at home to Wolves, end of 67-68 season. Absolute bullet!

My favourite all time goal at The Dell. Happy Birthday Big Ron you gave me so many great memories as my schoolboy hero.

Would be worth a fortune these days.

Not often I cheered a goal against England but I remember you getting one in the Home internationals a great header ...of course...

when England won 2-1.

Happy Birthday Ron. I never lived in Southampton but started to support them in the 60s because Ron was my idol. A season ticket and trips down from London followed and later my son became an avid supporter too with a season ticket. 2 Kent based fans today all due to Ron's magnifence in the penalty box.

Happy Birthday Ron. I still remember how upset I was when my dad said on the way home from a match"That Davies is bloody amazing ,he" ll be off to Man utd or Spurs before long" Thanks for staying mate, you made a 10 year old boy very happy.

Birthday greetings Ron. Sincerely hope that life is treating you better of late. You were my childhood hero too. Would love to see you at St Marys some day.

Modern players may have the cash but they won't ever have the affection that players like Ron have. Anybody of my age from the So'ton area absolutely idolised Ron when we were kids. He's part of the soul of this club. Happy birthday, many more, please let's get him over, stand him in front of a packed St.Marys and show him how he's still loved!

Happy Birthday, Ron. You were my childhood football idol.

I've just been looking at my set of 10 Saints programs from the 1968-1969 season. Ron Davies is featured as the cover photograph in seven of them (six with headers). [The programs back then cost a shilling!]

P.S. My oldest program is from the 1961-62 season. It's from Saturday, October 7th - Saints at home to Brighton & H.A. At that point in the season we were in second place, just behind Liverpool. Also in that year's second division: Huddersfield, Notts Forest, Leeds, Charlton, Derby, Swansea, Middlesbrough, S****horpe, Norwich.

Happy Birthday, Ron!

I've supported Saints for over 50 years and I believe that you are the best player I've seen put on the red and white stripes. Have a great day!

I read each and every post to Ron just now (even Dog's 'cake' one ;-) ).

He was absolutely made up, it really meant so much to him and it genuinely lifted him. I also really thank you for doing this as it was a pleasure to pass these messages on...I tried to describe who each message was from and from which part of the World.

He seemed almost overwhelmed with the support, the one thing he (really wanted to express and) always felt was a true affection and respect for the FANS of Southampton Football Club

Happy Birthday Big Ron. One of our best strikers that I have had the privilege to watch. Those leaping salmon headers were to be seen to be believed.

Add my best wishes to the list. I still remember watching him as a kid in the wilton end behind the goal, Terry Paine teeing up yet another thumping header for Big Ron to bury. Happy days.

Happy Birthday to the Greatest centre forward that the world has ever seen.

Onward Saints supporters marching as to war with the boot of Chivers going on before,

Melia is our schemer pushing from behind,

DAVIES IS OUR LEADER SCORING ALL THE TIME

We have been lucky in this great city to see some awesome players in our red and white stripes but personally I think Ron was the best.

I remember the song sung to "my name is McNamara" and it went

"His name is Ronny Davies he's the leader of our team

He's the greatest centre forward that the world has ever seen

You always can rely on him to score the vital goal

But as for Tony Hately you can stick him up your hole"

Could be used again for Ricky

Happy birthday Big Man

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RON! My Mum broke her leg in a crush at the Milton, and the very next day you came round to see her and wish her well. You were her hero and my idol. I couldn't believe this giant who walked into our house was actually "Big Ron" himself! I was only about 11 but remember it vividly. We lived in Ropley Close (Weston), which was right next to the old Halo Club, so whether he was on his way for a beer (a few of the team used to go there), I am not sure, but at least he made the effort, and the fact he stayed for a while and had a chat with us all, made him even bigger in our eyes!
