Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Barnsley Blackpool ------------------------ Brighton & Hove Albion Bristol City Burnley Cardiff City ------------------------ Coventry City Crystal Palace Derby County Doncaster Rovers Huddersfield Town Hull City Ipswich Town Leeds United Leicester City Middlesbrough Milwall Nottingham Forest Portsmouth Reading Southampton Swansea ----------------------- Watford West Ham Wigan Where'd you think we could realistically finish amongst that lot?
brightspark Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 I wonder which club will make history and become the first team to finish 25th in the Championship next season? I'll plump for Pompey.
HK_Phoey Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Think we should wait and see who comes down from the premiership and who wins the play-off from League One before we get too carried away with predicting next seasons championship table. I have done the BBC predictor thingy and have Wigan and Birmingham( Brum to lose 3-0 at Spurs) coming down and Blackpool staying up losing 3-1 at Man U. Hence Blackpool staying up on goals scored. Whilst I would like to see Hudders come up as I think they are one of the best three teams in the league this year, I can just see that Knut Ferguson fluking it.
SaintAndy14 Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 At the moment I'd like to say minimum of top half, but obviously depends on who comes in and what happens to the players of the relegated teams etc.
Spades Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Barnsley Blackpool ------------------------ Brighton & Hove Albion Bristol City Burnley Cardiff City ------------------------ Coventry City Crystal Palace Derby County Doncaster Rovers Huddersfield Town Hull City Ipswich Town Leeds United Leicester City Middlesbrough Milwall Nottingham Forest Portsmouth Reading Southampton Swansea ----------------------- Watford West Ham Wigan Where'd you think we could realistically finish amongst that lot? 2 of the current prem teams going straight down again? Barnsley for promotion? Saints only just surviving? Surely Brighton wont be up there with their minimal budget? Your crazy
SNSUN Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 2 of the current prem teams going straight down again? Barnsley for promotion? Saints only just surviving? Surely Brighton wont be up there with their minimal budget? Your crazy Swansea and Reading both losing the play off final is funnier.
saint_disco123 Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Ill say play offs (6th at most) but ill be happy with mid-table, then make the move for the prem the next season
Joesaint Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Top or 2nd I would take that... and think we will COYS
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Can see us finishing below 7 of those teams.
Pedro Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Crazy prediction before I realised it was in alphabetical order lol
Deppo Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Wouldn't it be great if a table actually ended up alphabetically correct? I wonder if it has ever happened? West Ham, Wolves and Wigan are trying their hardest in the Premier League this season, but the rest of them haven't really done their bit.
1976_Child Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Wouldn't it be great if a table actually ended up alphabetically correct? I wonder if it has ever happened? West Ham, Wolves and Wigan are trying their hardest in the Premier League this season, but the rest of them haven't really done their bit. Interesting! The probability (football ability aside) is 1 in 24! (where ! is the symbol for 'factorial'). The actual probability is therefore 1 in 6.204484017332394e+23. To put that in perspective, the generally accepted estimate for number of grains of sand in the world is 7.5e+17 (75 with 17 zeros). So, while it is possible to have all teams finish alphabetically, it is soooooooo outside the realms of mathematical possibility as to be impossible. So given that little maths tutorial it will now probably happen next season!
Deppo Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Interesting! The probability (football ability aside) is 1 in 24! (where ! is the symbol for 'factorial'). Surely, that is entirely wrong.
SuperMikey Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Surely, that is entirely wrong. Completely wrong. The odds are far, far higher than 24/1.

Matthew Le God Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Only Swansea/Reading and Peterborough/Huddersfield missing and the small matter of 3 months worth of transfers ins/outs. Updated Skybet odds... Deppo Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 (edited) Go back and read the whole post... But the probability isn't 1 in 24, as you said. With a league of 10, the probability would be something like 1 in 3,628,800. Edited 22 May, 2011 by Deppo

Matthew Le God Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Are those serious?? Wow, 10/1 is bloody short to win the league! What do they know that we don't? Skybet through Sky Sports would have contacts with people in the game that know if Saints are planning to spend or not, such as agents and thus shorten odds. They would also have seen what Norwich did last season and see it is not impossible to pass straight through the league.

Matthew Le God Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 The more I look at it the more convinced I am that might be a bit of value... More value elsewhere. Paddy Power for example have Saints at 18/1
FalkirkSaint Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 I think Middlesborough will surprise everyone and come good this season as they've had a good end to the season and don't have as much expectation as they did this time last season. Birmingham and West Ham have decent chances of going straight back up and I'm confident that the Saints will reach the play-offs but I think teams like Forest and Cardiff will have midtable finishes after 2 years of heartbreak in the play-offs. Tip for the title: Hmm...I'll go with Pompey
Deppo Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Deppo, sweetheart, go read the post. I don't think that it is a 1 in 24 chance of the being alphabetical, like you say. I'd say it is more than that, by a long way. Can you show your workings out?
Deppo Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Completely wrong. The odds are far, far higher than 24/1. Thanks Mikey. He's mental if he thinks it's 24/1.
Matthew Le God Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 i think Ispwich maybe dark horses next year Nope, their horse is white...
Dalek2003 Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Boro = Champions Brum 2nd Playoffs West Am Ipswich Hull leicester Saints 12th
1976_Child Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Thanks Mikey. He's mental if he thinks it's 24/1. Deppo, you need a spanking! I've 'known' you too long to know you ain't that dumb. So, trousers down and bend over...
SNSUN Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Boro = Champions Brum 2nd Playoffs West Am Ipswich Hull leicester Saints 12th I am of the belief West Ham and Brum will struggle next season once the vultures have ripped them apart.
Thedelldays Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 (edited) 1st - Leicester 2nd - Boro playoffs - Forest, Ipswich, Brum and who misses out in the playoff final relegated Posh (if promoted)/Pompey Donny Barnsley saints to finish 11th Edited 22 May, 2011 by Thedelldays
Cestrian Saint Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 (edited) Leicester champions. Saints somewhere between 16th & 20th. Hard to call the bottom 3 although I expect Doncaster, Palace, Derby & Barnsley to be down there. Edited 22 May, 2011 by Cestrian Saint
Professor Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Its hard to predict how the relegated teams will do, even with the parachute payments, as they will all lose players and have to cut wages. West Ham and Brum both seem to have serious debt problems while Blackpool will be badly affected by the loss of Charlie Adam. As for Saints, it does look as if we won't be following the Norwich example of rebuilding a side for the NpC but will be relying on the promotion squad plus maybe 1 or 2 additions. If that is the plan, it seems reasonable to suppose that NA has told NC that the present team is almost good enough to compete at the top of the table with just a small tweak. If so, I hope they have plan B, which could be to make a reassessment after the first few results, and if it looks like more quality is needed to get out into the transfer market before the Sept transfer window closes.
View From The Top Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Boro = Champions Brum 2nd Playoffs West Am Ipswich Hull leicester Saints 12th Considering you never thought we'd go up in an auto spot forgive me for not taking any of your predictions seriously.
The9 Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Wouldn't it be great if a table actually ended up alphabetically correct? I wonder if it has ever happened? West Ham, Wolves and Wigan are trying their hardest in the Premier League this season, but the rest of them haven't really done their bit. Sadly, and somewhat incredibly, already know the answer to this. But you're going to have to click here to find out... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/mar/09/has-league-ever-finished-alphabetical-order
Scoobysaint Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 I may be too optimistic but I think we can mount a decent challenge next season (with a couple of quality additions). The momentum from this season will hopefully be taken through preseason and we will start next season with the bus at full speed. I certainly can't see us finishing bottom half. Do some people find it hard to believe that good times are on the way to St Marys?
Crab Lungs Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Early prediction (of course, this could all change with manager departures, players joining/leaving etc, promotions/relegations) West Ham Leicester City -------------- Leeds Utd Nottm Forest Southampton Birmingham -------------- Cardiff City Reading Middlesbrough Crystal Palace Bristol City Watford Huddersfield Town Hull City Ipswich Town Blackpool Millwall Brighton & HA Burnley Portsmouth Coventry City ------------- Derby County Doncaster Barnsley Saints v Leeds playoff final :-o (3-2)
LGTL Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 Somewhere between Wigan and Barnsley. You don't think we'll finish either 1st or 24th then?
ericb Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 I think midtable is an achievable aim for next season, we might sneak play offs depending on signings but so long as we aren't in a relegation battle or below the skates i'll be happy. In fact if anything a season to consolidate in the championship might actually be a good thing as we're a long way from a premiership side now and it'd cost us a fortune to get a team that is of the right standard in one season.
SuperMikey Posted 22 May, 2011 Posted 22 May, 2011 I don't think that it is a 1 in 24 chance of the being alphabetical, like you say. I'd say it is more than that, by a long way. Can you show your workings out? [MLG] According to the article that The9 posted, the odds of only 2 teams finishing behind each other in alphabetical order are 380/1. In a league of 20, the odds are 2,432,902,008,176,640,000/1 of an alphabetical finish. In a league of 24 (such as the Championship), they would be even higher. [/MLG]
