Dr Who? Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 Over the last couple of months I have taken a huge interest in airfix. At the moment I am just about to start the Morris Mini Cooper Racing 'Green'. It looks very complex! I have also began to show an interest in Lego again. Does anyone else have this sort of hobby. Really along the lines of building things, or anything else you have taken up again or for the first time the last few months or years? I am finding it hard to do this airfix as I am also watching/listening to Nirvana live at Reading, and I do not think the music fits tiny parts that you have to fit together!! Lighthouse Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 Used to race 10th scale RC cars when I was in my early teens and have really gotten into it again in the last year or so. It's a great laugh.

Whitey Grandad Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 I built loads in my youth. You may be interested in this site: http://pws.prserv.net/gbinet.dbjames/index.htm There are plenty of kits available on ebay.

Colinjb Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 I got back into model kits a few years ago. Really enjoyed making the 1/24 scale F1 cars. The best one I made was a 1982 Renault, the sense of achievement when you've done a good job of it is quite something.

Ditto, but have been doing BRCA and BTCC nationals since 2000. Loads of fun isn't it? Been down in Hampshire and raced at Bashley indoors years ago, the track at The Plough, and I've driven on the old Weston Shore track. Haven't tried new Bashley or Yateley yet, but Aldershot is nice. All 1/10th touring cars.
John Boy Saint Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 When I was 13 - 14 I was in the ATC, one of the activities was model making. I had made tons of Airfix planes, but making Airfix planes here was different gravy, they took model making to an obsessive finite art. With so much model making knowledge on hand on Squadron nights, this encouraged the building of Gliders. All of a sudden you were building models that really would fly: the Dope varnish that you painted the tissue paper wing and fuselage coverings had you flying high too! Model kits - I've been getting my 10 year old into this because I got sick of him p*ssing his spare time away on a NDS. As a result I have started doing them again. Currently working on an Airfix 1:72 Mosquito XVI Lego - when I was 10 I had the original Lego Space sets (the big spaceship 928 fetches 1500 quid in boxed condition now on places like Ebay), I loved them and kept them pristine, but my bloody mother gave them to my cousins when I went to Uni. My kids are now into the Star Wars stuff, and I love helping them build it all. Latest acquisition for my 7 year-olds birthday was the AT-AT from Empire Strikes Back. Absolutely brilliant.
