Yes there is. How did Forecast manage to slip under the net, ?.

 

1) because signed 5 year contract in 2008 (?) and therefore not out of contract and automatically retained.

The first, quite unarguably; as others have pointed out, you can't release a player who's under contract. The second I'm not so sure of - he's hardly excelled at any of the teams he's joined on loan over the past couple of seasons, all of them clubs which play at a lower level than us, often significantly. I think any club would want their third-choice keeper to be one who's seen as having a future as first-choice, at least potentially. Given his performances on loan, I very much doubt that Forecast is that person.

you might have missed it, but he has another year left on his contract. This idea that we have money to burn to pay up contracts is way off the mark.

If we have to keep him, then either come to a deal to pay up his contract early, or loan him out for a season possibly to Bashley or Sholing, anywhere. Perish the thought of injuries to KD, and BB, and being told we can't make an emergency loan signing because we still have Tommy - "Tottenham didn't want to let me go "- Forecast available.

I'd like to share your optimism but do you seriously think they're worth anything? They're probably already on higher wages than most League 1 clubs can afford and most League 1 clubs hardly ever pay for players anyway.

 

If the club felt they had no future and did not have any potential value to others they would release them!

You are right, but Matt Mills wasn't released, he was snapped up by Man City (for a £250,000 compensation fee) when his contract ended (recommended to them by Steve Wiggly who was by that time coaching up there).

 

Nearly there - he signed for them in january of the 05/06 season after requesting a transfer because Redknapp literally ignored him around the training ground.

Does frustrate me when people knock the club/management for "letting" good prospects like Mills and Blackstock go, when it was them that requested a transfer and in both cases we wanted to keep them.
