Some slightly ridiculous comments on here. I don't particulay like Nick becuase he clearly has agenda's, he's down on Kelvin and Harding to the point where he only comments when they fook up and never when they have excellent games.

But this is silly, as Dell Days stated. Using the lack of advertisers as (yet another) stick to beat Cortese with is ridiculous. Cortese could be the most commercially astute man in the world but he wouldn't be able to affect the global downturn.

As someone who works in marketing I can tell you that advertising revenues are down in general, and what money is being spent is not being spent in display advertising or sponsorship, because although they're good to get the brand out there they are not as effective at actually driving people to purchase your product.

Asking a local business (they usually are more local for the pitchside spaces) to fork out thousands of pounds a year with no guarantee of a return on that investment is always going to be a tough thing to do in the current climate.

Companies generally advertise because the MD is a fan, or to get some reflected kudos from the club, they will only do that if they can spare the cash.

Sometimes Nick is right (even a stopped clock is right twice a day... and all that) but generally he uses what little influence he has to peddle his own petty agendas. Basically he doesn't like Cortese and therefore he will make whatever facts he has fit his assumptions, in this case... pitchside advertising.

F*ck off the lot of you, no one says talks about advertising space better than Robbie Williams, not even Nick Illingsworth. FACT

I dont think its been touched upon also that Cortese probably values the Southampton "brand" a lot more than a club like Sheff Weds probably do their own. Until someone is able to prove otherwise I would wage that the price to buy a sponsor board at SMS is a lot more than the majority of clubs in League 1 and unlike most of those clubs who are in perilous financial positions, we are more likely to say "no thanks" when a company comes to us offering to buy an advertising board at half price. I'd imagine other clubs are far more likely to entertain these offers. Why should we drop our pants and accept sub standard rates of payment? Good on Cortese if this strategy results in less adverts. It just makes it more exclusive for the ones paying.

So much for Cortese hating pompey, dump a loyal Southampton company and use a portsmouth printing company that used to sponsor the dirty skate bastards.

Maybe they were much cheaper? Not a very commercial decision to stick with a local company if they're overcharging. there are many, MANY reasons why they might have changed printers. I'd guess they'd have gone for competitive tenders and would have taken into account the financial health of potential suppliers as well as relevant experience, price, capacity, lead times... etc. etc.

Obviously it would have been nice to stick with a local company but it's more important we get the best price for everything in order to remain competitive.

It's a bit rich for people criticising Cortese for not being commercial (regarding advertising space) then slagging him off when he makes a commercial decision (surely done in the best interests of the club) in changing printers...

Anyway..... I'm all for putting more boards around the pitch, move them closer as well. There's nothing like a good laugh at a player that goes arse over heals over one.

What makes me laugh are some of the mongs on that site, or even the ones that pretend to be different people on both.

Look, it was the Walsall game. I couldn't be arsed and was having a party.

Not accusing just asking, from the outside wouldn't you say that was somewhat hypocritical...couldn't be bothered wasting 1 minute, yet spending ages on here writing about and getting very defensive/sensitive over clearly making a bad decision which is scorned by most. Come on Steve, you're most likely a good lad, so look at it subjectively and just face it - A p!ss poor post mate.
