thefunkygibbons Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 For some reason, I forgot to set the alarm this morning so woke up late at 5am So I guess I was dashing a little more than usual Heading along the A3 (60 limit) towards Guildford, when suddenly big flash of blue lights I looked down, opps nearer 80 I pulled into the inside lane, waved and then slowed down to 60 I then spend a brief few minutes wondering whether he was going to pull me Thankfully not I now know that there is an unmarked dark grey Ford Focus patrolling the A3 road I guess I am lucky that it was 5.30 in the morning and he probably had his breakfast waiting at the station
Petersfield Saint Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 That's good to know as that's my daily commute, cheers! Seen all manner of unmarked cars on the M27 of late; latest being a grey Subaru Legacy. I also have a healthy fear of Skoda Octavias!

I was stopped by one on my way back from scotland last year after he'd flashed his blues at me a couple of times (thought it was part of the training lol) but he couldn't do anything about it as he was a trainer and not a "proper copper". All he could do is take me to court as a normal citizen that witnessed it along with the others in his car. The car wasn't marked at all apart from "police training vehicle" in small letters on the boot. I still sh!t myself and he definitely wanted to do me (take that as you will) . I also have a healthy fear of Skoda Octavias! Lol, so you're one of the ones who sudddenly slow down as I get close with my black Octavia VRS

1976_Child Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I thought unmarked cars couldn't pull you over, only marked ones. The unmarked car would radio ahead for a stripey panda car to come and nik you. Maybe wrong though.

rallyboy Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 Liquid, was that up near Carlisle? Ten years ago I was pulled doing 100mph up there, by a grubby looking Mondeo estate. Very miserable copper gave me a ten minute lecture including telling me he had followed us for seven miles between 90-100mph and seen me bullying traffic out of lane three - which I wasn't, it's just the nature of doing that speed, you catch stuff. There is hardly any traffic up there and having taken ages through Birmingham you want to crack on. I sat quietly and nodded at my telling off, feeling a 6-9 pointer coming my way...he then chucked in the little gem, I'm a training officer so I have no jurisdiction on the motorway.... Have been told since there is a big training base on that stretch. I drive more sedately these days, and heed any Octavia with too many aerials and a big parcel shelf obstruction. Re the A3, the tunnel has all kinds of radar for safety, CCTV, and there was mention of average speed cameras.

He took a lot of pleasure in giving me a lecture and I really had to bite my tongue and just nodded along! Apparently they were doing 90-100 mph for several miles and as I was behind them for the duration it meant I was doing the same..... When I learnt he was a training officer I was desperate to question him on why he didnt have any lights flashing whilst doing those sorts of speeds!! cant be legal surely!! Fancy That.... Lighthouse Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 Well, you could do what they do in the West Country and drive around 20mph below the speed limit.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 That's good to know as that's my daily commute, cheers! Seen all manner of unmarked cars on the M27 of late; latest being a grey Subaru Legacy. I also have a healthy fear of Skoda Octavias! Me too after one pulled me by Bitterne Sainsbury's at 2am on a Monday morning. I went through an Amber light, it went red as I was halfway across the line, he pulled me and gave me the "3 points & £60 fine or Court" then proceeded to inform me on what a dangerous junction it was. I agreed, stating "it usually is a right dangerous junction at 2am on a monday morning. He was a right w*nker. On the "close encounters" subject, My mates old dear had been taken away for a romantic weekend by her alchoholic tosspot of a fella. First night he gets sozzled right up and proceeds to bash her up on the high street then get in his car and drive home. We got a call at 1:30am so jumped in the motor and started booting it up the M3. Pulled intop fleet services to chuck £10 in the tank, gets back in and floors it up the slip road. Almost instantly i see blue lights next to me, looks across and he points me over. I got in the fuzzmobile and I explained the situation and offered my apologies. Copper No.1: "Why have we pulled you over?" Me: "I was doing about 85mph on the slip road...?" Copper No.2: "More like 90mph but why have we pulled you?" Me: "I wasn't wearing my seatbelt either so yeh, hands up, sorry chaps." Copper No.1: "Give you one more chance, why have we pulled you?" Me: "Ok guys, I have given you two very good reasons to give me a good telling off so i'm stumped here." Copper No.2: "Right. In a second I am going to ask you to get back in your car, put your seat belt on, to drive at the speed limits and most importantly... Put your bloody lights on." Copper No.1: "Now be on your way." Top Chaps.
Golden Balls Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I got pulled for going through an amber light near the British Gas building. Copper: What does an amber light mean? Me: Stop if you're within a speed and distance to do so safely (Had a smug look on my face which was a mistake) Copper: Then why didn't you stop? Me: Becuase it's wet and I was about 3 feet away from the light when it went amber He proceeded to check absolutely everything on me and my car as well as searching me. Brilliant feeling knowing he could do absolutely nothing despite being an arsehole. That said, had a bit of a run in out in town a couple of weeks back and the coppers were absolutely class. Used common sense which was a breath of fresh air.

so22saint Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 years back, M6, Sunday night (well 1am Monday morning), I was driving to my weekly job in Manchester, doing between 90-100 - see lights approaching fast from behind, suddenly blues on, I slow down immediately. Blues off, patrol car (not unmarked) overtakes with a wave and they're gone. Think they just wanted to remind me I was going too quick but sensible about it - i.e. no 30 minute ticking off - top lads. 5 years before I'd picked up 3 points speeding in the roadworks on the M1 at 3am in the morning - just me and the land rover a mile back. what an arsehole that bloke was, even his colleague agreed with me on that one when my mini refused to start and the colleague offered a push start. "I think you'll find that regulation xxx states that we can't lay our hands on a public vehicle... (or something), I'll get the jump leads".... "arsehole" muttered his mate

benjii Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I was driving down the M3 once and over the crest of one of the hills (probably the Twyford Down cutting) on a very sunny evening. It was just as the sun was about to set, you know, when everything goes a bit hazy and colours tend to merge into one. Anyway, I had just passed a sort of whitish strange looking car at about 85mph when I looked in the mirror and saw it was actually a marked Panda car! Doh! What a knnoooob. But they didn't do anything at all so it was fine.

Only traffic cops or patrolling police officers (focus, mondeo type cars) can.
suewhistle Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I pay for my own car and petrol so don't tend to go so fast a you lot, even when crossing France on the autoroute... you lot can obviously afford it. Anyway, my story is second-hand... many years ago when I first bought my house I had a copper as a lodger (amazing - not right wing , intelligent, laid back - he didn't last long..). Anyway, he had a visit from a MET traffic cop and I heard the story of a biker he stopped early one morning roaring down alongside Hyde Park at a rate of knots. "So" he says to the biker "I'm going to book you, not for your speed but because you didn't see me". So in those stories where you slowed down, perhaps it was worth it! Petersfield Saint Posted 19 May, 2011 Share Posted 19 May, 2011 Re the A3, the tunnel has all kinds of radar for safety, CCTV, and there was mention of average speed cameras. They've recently put signs up near the south entrance saying "Average speed check" so it certainly looks that way. TBH I have no problems with that as I'm just waiting for the first **** to lose control, cause a bloody great accident and shut the tunnel down for a year after it's just opened! Lol, so you're one of the ones who sudddenly slow down as I get close with my black Octavia VRS Yep, that'll be me!! Just like I used to do with Imprezas throughout the '90s!
