Jaidi 1 year extension

Seems to have been written by an old time fan who simply hasn't come to terms with the fact that we have people with brains instead of Ego's at the top now.

That could be a good article IF written at the END of the Transfer & Loan windows assuming we sign nobody else. But right now just looks sad. All it needed was a single "We hope that we sign a more permananet first choice CB" or that "We hope that the Management actually believes Seaborne & Martin are ready" but no, doom and gloom stylee

I don't think I've seen a link on here to an article on there where I've actually agreed with the content for about 2 years. Maybe the one about club transparency and selling STs.

Clearly they ain't on the bus. Who runs that site?

Oh

That article was a shocker. I think Saint Charlie's reposts were pretty solid but in particular the idea that because 21 year old Martin didn't get many starts ahead of Fonte and Jaidi when we're supposed to be going all our for promotion means Adkins clearly doesn't rate him??

Where's Pancake with that facepalm icon when I need him...

He's been outstanding this season. He's slow and he gets knackered before the end of games, but boy have we been good at defending set pieces since he joined us and I don't see that changing next season. As most goals come from set pieces and failure to deal with long balls having a unit like him is essential.

Fair play to Jaidi - people forget that he didn't start games when NA first arrived. He fought his way back into contention and made himself no.1 choice on merit, not reputation. The udders game tonight illustrated perfectly why he still has something to offer - i remember our game at the Galpharm earlier in the season where lee and novak totally bullied us in the air (seabourne started that day). Yes some games in the NPC will require pace on the deck but there'll also be plenty of aerial tussles and i'm just glad the big man will be in the trenches with us.

He's awesome in the air, but I fear his increasing lack of pace will be cruelly exposed in some championship games. Imagine him up against some other club's Forte.

Still a one year extension makes sense as long as we do bring on another CB who does have pace.

Spot on, Mr Tone. That was my comment as well, but you have got there first. Good in the air, struggles on the ground, especialy with pacy forwards. Concerned he would be exposed, but if he can be played against big lump forwards he'll be in his element.

I got the feeling Nigel sometimes selected centre backs based on opponents. Big forward = Jardi, pacey forward = Seaborne. He took Jaidi off early in the Bristol Rovers game specifically because the forward was pacey. A wise move as it turned out as we kept a clean sheet.

If you look at the beginning of Adkins reign, Seabourne started every game (Jaidi filled in only when Fonte got a slight injury). Only much, much later did Adkins mix things according to the strengths and style of the opposition as you point out. And by then Jaidi was generally first-choice.

I see Wayne Thomas has been released by Doncaster today.

They say 'never go back' but if we could do a fair deal, I'd welcome him back as cover. Am I alone in that view?

Yes.

Arrogant. Injury-prone. Average.

We've moved on, and should be aiming for alot better, even as cover.

However, what a goal that was against Ipswich!
