Crab Lungs Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 OK, it's been ages since this happened but I only got around to seeing this footage today: It depicts Liverpool's then 2nd choice goalkeeper Charles Itandje being disrespectful at a memorial service for Hillsborough. I was honestly expecting to see something utterly obvious and shameful judging by the reactions of LFC fans around then but all I can see is Itandje nudging Plessis to the tune of the song (which, however sincere, there were probably many others like Itandje silently taking the **** out of it). I'm not condoning what Charles Itandje did (however bad the music sounded, it was heartfelt) and of course, he was at a memorial service for a tragedy which shouldn't really give anyone much to smile about but other than acting moronically and rather naively, I'm struggling to work out where there was so much anger towards him. He was stupid to do what he did but I don't think for a second he was disrespecting the memories of the 96 who died, just taking the p1ss out of the song. I suppose it depends on how you want to perceive it, I guess...
sambosa75 Posted 19 May, 2011 Share Posted 19 May, 2011 Liverpool FC - a club that revels in self pity. I hate that club with a passion.
Huntingdon Posted 20 May, 2011 Share Posted 20 May, 2011 In all fairness to the guy, that's a truly terrible song I'm getting sick to death of Liverpool fans banging on about Hillsborough - yes, it was an awful day, but it was 22 years ago, move on They don't even have special occasion memorials, in 2014 it will 25 years, that's fair enough do something then, but not every year I agree with Sambosa, they are a club that revels in self pity I don't see them holding services for the 38 Juventus fans they killed in Heysal

But that aside, I'm still struggling to see what Itandje was completely vilified for? I really don't think he was disrespecting the dead, just mocking the song, but reading some of their comments make me wonder if he's also the mastermind of WWII, al-Qaeda etc :-/

Even Hillsborough would have been avoided if their fans had not been so stupid. The fact Liverpool fans are only too happy to wallow in their own self pity but brush under the carpet the fact that some Liverpool fans were on the pitch, picking the pockets of the unconscious and the dead whilst this was happening. Doesnt quite fit in with the "You'll Never Walk Alone" ethos, does it? Another thing, during the Champions League final in Athens when they lost to AC Milan, the doors momentarily swung open allowing a bunch of scallys to rush inside. Luckily the police were able to get the situation under control and get the doors shut but if they hadnt, it could have been the same story all over again. Given that they constantly bang on about "Remembering" the fallen at Hillsborough, I'd expect Liverpool fans to be the last to be doing such a thing. jjsaint Posted 21 May, 2011 Share Posted 21 May, 2011 What about the Bradford fire, hardly gets a mention. I guess since they aren't a 'big club' their supporters lives' don't matter
