Wadge Posted 17 May, 2011 Posted 17 May, 2011 I am coming down for a wedding in June and having never played any golf in Southampton just wandered what course is a decent one to play. I am staying right near the Rose Bowl course but not sure if this is any good or not. Recommendations appreciated.
Give it to Ron Posted 18 May, 2011 Posted 18 May, 2011 The Municipal....if it was a private course it would be one of the best courses in Hampshire just let down by idiots not raking bunkers or replacing divots...ever! As your close you may want to try East Horton...not bad. Rose Bowl isn't worth it IMO. You can get some decent twighlight deals at the moment Paultons at £14 after 4pm. I love Dibden but a bit far from where your staying. Those are the better pay&play I can think of. Private Stoneham, Bramshaw and Hockley but not cheap...you also have Botley but haven't played that in a while.
Wadge Posted 19 May, 2011 Author Posted 19 May, 2011 Cheers, appreciate that advice. Have had a look at those and think will give East Horton a whirl.

The muni is now run by a private company and has been renamed as Southampton City Golf Course. It's getting better up there, they're starting to enforce dress codes more, speeding up play etc.
AussieDog Posted 19 May, 2011 Posted 19 May, 2011 So many to choose from. I guess it depends on things like your budget, your "style" of game (big hitter but can't hit straight??....god short game?), and how far you want to travel. If you're looking close to the Rose bowl, then Meon Valley isn't too far away and always used to be a good challenge. If you just want the best, don't mind a 45 minute drive (and can afford it and find a way to get on) go to Remedy Oaks. I would say you have a choice of maybe 20 courses within half an hour though
Wadge Posted 19 May, 2011 Author Posted 19 May, 2011 Cheers Aussie Dog, now not sure wether to play east Horton or Meon Valley, they both look good, although I'm tending to edge towards Meon Valley now. Decisions decisions
