The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Share Posted 13 May, 2011 Worse than Olivier Bernard? Really? REALLY? I thought Jakobsson was at least a competent defensive midfielder when asked to play there, Calum Davenport was a worse central defender, and Mikael Nilsson just worse full stop. Bernard was just a clown.
Saint J 77 Posted 13 May, 2011 Share Posted 13 May, 2011 Isn't Pulis 3 year contract up this summer anyway?
The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Share Posted 13 May, 2011 Isn't Pulis 3 year contract up this summer anyway? It had better be, as it was meant to expire on Aug 12, 2010 according to some people on here (ignoring the fact that all full-season contracts expire at midnight on June 30 / July 1. Deppo Posted 13 May, 2011 Share Posted 13 May, 2011 There have been more threads on these two than their combined time spent on the pitch. Literally. Obsessed? Much?

Icey Saint Posted 14 May, 2011 Share Posted 14 May, 2011 Mark Hughes for me, signed at the end of his career and IMO just milked a pay cheque for one last season. had achieved so much before he came to us !!

suewhistle Posted 15 May, 2011 Share Posted 15 May, 2011 The only reason Pulis and Forecast look poor is that we have an outstanding squad to compare them against. Oh come on! Pulis has looked crap in his loan spells in L2 and I don't think Eastbourne were too impressed with Forecast.
Badger Posted 15 May, 2011 Share Posted 15 May, 2011 Mark Hughes for me, signed at the end of his career and IMO just milked a pay cheque for one last season. had achieved so much before he came to us !! Two seasons, and remarkably he played well after he left us, Blackburn I think. For us however he was just a drain on resources. I disliked him before he joined us, loathed the bastard whilst he was on our payroll, thought he was bigger than the club, caused rifts in the dressing room, and dismissed MLT. sidthesquid Posted 16 May, 2011 Share Posted 16 May, 2011 Has any player anywhere, who has never made the first team, ever generated so much interest as Anthony Pulis? People will still be talking and writing about him long after many better pros have been and gone. Rooms will hush when you say - I saw him play (in a friendly for the reserves). Youngsters will ask you what he was REALLY like. You will be able to proudly tell your grandkids that you were there, that you contributed to one of the dozens of threads about him. And in time he will grow into a legend, like King Arthur, with learned men debating whether he really existed, and blockbuster films made about his return to save England in some mythical future. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Anthony Pulis......

Window Cleaner Posted 16 May, 2011 Share Posted 16 May, 2011 Pulis?? well that's Nemesis at work for you isn't it. We sold them a dud for quite a lot of money, they gave us one in return. Nothing more to say on the subject, Nemesis is always watching.

Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Anthony Pulis...... I think we all know it has do with the intrigue around the fact that simultaneously we sold his previous club a player and the manager of that club happened to be his father. Add in the fact that he was already well travelled (including some clubs where his father was the manager previously), had a very thin appearance record and that he was given a year extension despite never playing (presumably both the player and club had the right to enforce the final year) you have the answer. This bloke has spent more time on the pitch at St Marys in a Stoke shirt despite being here for 3 years and only ever having made 2 appearances for Stoke! I think we have all been half expecting for the last 3 years for some minor scandal to break regarding this deal. It doesn't look like it will now but possibly one day? Mister Neil Posted 16 May, 2011 Share Posted 16 May, 2011 I'm ashamed to confess - I can't actually remember if I have ever seen him play! Came on as a sub in the pre-season game versus Reading. Didn't impress, I remember he had at least one shot on goal, mind you it nearly hit the telly above the goal! The9 Posted 16 May, 2011 Share Posted 16 May, 2011 (edited) This weekend I discovered that my aunt went to school with Tony Pulis, so I'm declaring myself out, as this is a conflict of interest. But not before mentioning (again) that I played for the same side as his uncle Ray for about 6 months in the early/mid 90s, and that I'm 90% sure he'll end up signing for Newport County when his contract expires... and never getting a game there either. I also saw him play for the reserves (which I haven't for Forecast), and if you want to see some comedy abuse, if someone could dredge up that old thread... To the person that said "he only looked bad because the rest of our squad is so good", I refer you to him still looking terrible for Saints reserves in a seven goal win against Salisbury when such luminaries as Gasmi were playing. He wouldn't have got a game for Salisbury either. Edited 16 May, 2011 by The9
Marino Posted 16 May, 2011 Share Posted 16 May, 2011 Is it really 8 years ago ? 7th January 2003 - BBC reports:- Southampton have revealed they are close to signing 23-year-old Argentine winger Federico Arias. Gordon Strachan has not disclosed the fee paid to Arias' current club Velez Sarsfield, but he confirmed that the wideman had agreed a three-year deal. "(Overseas scout) Terry Cooper has watched him a few times and thinks he can help our squad," said Strachan. "He can play on either flank which will give us good balance. "He looks a useful player and is very quick and hopefully he will make us stronger." His nickname is the Torpedo - and it is easy to see why Southampton's overseas scout Terry Cooper It is believed that Arias will mainly be in the squad to challenge Fabrice Fernandes for his role, but he could also play up front. Cooper said: "He has two excellent feet. I watched him three times and could not tell which was his best. "He is a great crosser of the ball too. He gets his head up and picks people out. "His nickname is the Torpedo - and it is easy to see why. He is explosive over 20 metres." Arias, who speaks some English, has an Italian passport so Saints will not need to apply for a work permit. The Argentine season finished in November but he has been training hard and could figure for Saints at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
