Crab Lungs Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 I know being a professional sportsman must take it out of players but seriously? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13361020.stm Methinks he's been rubbed up the wrong way of some sorts... hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 Absolute disgrace. Playing for England should be the pinnacle of anyone's careers and some things are just more important than money. It's why Beckham was the last England legend and probably will be the last one for a while.

thesaint sfc Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 can't blame him. The England team are full of c*nts. England fans are mostly an embarrassment. People support their club more than their country these days - sounds like he is doing the same. Good for him. The only reason any of our players are in the England squad is because they get more money - not because they're passionate about the country. Colinjb Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 A great shame, but also a guy who's been nursing cruciate ligament injuries throughout his career. Realistically speaking he would always be behind the younger and more able Joe Hart in the england ranks so to do this and preserve his fitness makes sense for him. sambosa75 Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 No doubt has a young family to think of too. Why should he go away for England games away from his family to sit on the bench and play 2nd fiddle. If I had a family too I would see that time as an ideal opportunity to spend with my family. Huffton Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 THink a bit of perspective is needed here. He is 28, not old for a keeper granted, but still closer to the end of his career than the start. He's clearly going to be No.2, if not No.3, he's struggled with injuries. The only thing that really matters for the England side is the world cup, will he still be at the top of his hame for the next one? What are the chances of him sustaining a career ending injury in a meaningless friendly? I think he's doing exactly the right thing.
