Best Curry you've eaten.

funny enough it was in a restaurant in Turkey on the main strip in gumber, but it has gone now! Along with most of the main strip!

In the UK it was in Guildford on the Woodbridge Road stunning but it could be because it was one of the first places I went out for an Indian.

Now it is the Royal Bangal on Royston high street

The best one fairly locally for me is The Indian cottage in Fareham. The Natraj in town used to best for the city centre but that's gone. There's one in Portswood but I've not tried it. Purbani in Botley isn't as good as it was a few years ago.

One to avoid if ever in London is Veerswamy in Regent st, massive disappointment and very expensive. Don't even start me on Poppadom express, rubbish.

Funny you should say that. One of our indian IT contractor said it was the best and most authentic curry tht he has ever had in the UK!!!

To be fair I have only eaten lunch there once. My suit smelt so bad afterwards because of the open kitchen, i was banished to a meeting room by my colleagues for the afternoon.

It's amazing though, realising how many really good curry houses there are in the UK. I've had much better curries in the UK than I ever had in India.

An Indian bloke I used to work with said the same, he used to go to Poppadom Express twice a week. I've eaten there a few times and found it ok, but nothing special.

A pretty rubbish one in Southampton is P.O.S.H. Only ate there once years ago. Had a few people tell me it was great but I wasn't impressed at all.

Backstreet place in Bombay, nearly took my head off though. Didn't even get thrown out for taking my shirt off....which is more than you can say for the time I did it in the Mohti Mahal

down Bevois Valley. Don't know how many of you remember that place, used to attract a lot of people at pub closing time. Great people, was usually pretty chaotic in there but the waiters(Nige and Intikhab as they were nicknamed) were always incredibly calm about everything, didn't mind bills paid in an assortment of LVs,coppers etc either.

Lol! I know it happened at some tea/burger joint but not sure exactly where.

No cash points in them days, well, as a nipper I never had a card so had to taxi all the way back home and in again after picking up my spare loot!

Back on tack now. Curries.

Used to love the Kohinoor, Mohti grotty, Taj Mahal (Eastleigh), one in Folkestone (did Indian & Chinese).

Great Moghul has sadly waned in the last ten years.

These days I use Nashaa (Eastleigh) without fail but I am seeking to try something else so this thread is illuminating!

Indeed, the Mohti Grotty has been good to me over the years.

Rajinda Pradesh, in one of the most unlikely places,Centre Parcs at Longleat.

I kid you not, it was simply stunning, wonderful food in wonderful surroundings.

I cannot recomend it highly enough if you ever frequent the aforementioned Centre Parcs.

Just thinking about it makes me want to book.

When i lived in west London i always ventured to Zacharays just outside Hounslow, pretty darn good, served me well for 20 years.

While I don't have a large basis of comparison of curry houses, having only eaten the stuff for about five years, I can't fault my local, the Red Rose in Egham, or Hatch's mention from earlier, the Mango Lounge in Windsor.

I've been to a few dodgy places, there was one in Southall, the name escapes me, that was bloody awful, despite my dad and my goddad raving about the place. The good thing was that you could take your own booze in, so I made sure I took along a bottle of JD.

I'll be trying out this place (Croydon branch) tonight - should be interesting. It seems to be really popular, I was intending to go there a couple of weeks ago, didn't bother booking thinking "it's only a Sunday evening, how busy can it be?!", and then when I got there, there were 50-odd people in the queue to get in with a likely waiting time of 2 hours :uhoh:

You lucky buggers, I've suffered decades of crap curries here in San Diego. Finally a decent one opened about a year ago, and just a few miles from the house. Woo hoo! Called the Himalayan, it's an Indian/Tibetan hole in the wall, with curries almost as good as back home. $8 lunch special includes lentil soup, choice of 2 excellent curries, basmati rice and nan.

Now if only I could find some decent bangers over here.

Oh thank fook for that, another devotee of the Pathia!

meanwhile to everyone else you Dumb f\/cks

No really. The Gazebo restaurant here are the purveyors of the finest Dum Phukt cuisine. Very tasty.

Have mentioned a zillion times on here Ravi's Palace (now apparently World Famous according to Timeout) Their Chicken Tikka makes the stuff served in Blighty taste like a packet of E-additives. And again they re-visit whether the best Curry is actually Indian or Pakistani argument with their Chicken Handi.

Also worthy of a mention in dispatches are Chicken Tikka Inn for their Chicken Bothi & Mutton Tikka, and Sindh Punjab for their legendary Butter Chicken.

For me the most memorable curry though was my first one in Pakistan when I was taken by my customer (and now good friend) to IF memory serves me right the Karachi Yacht club - total back to the Raj experience and the food was amazing AND I only crapped for 3 days non-stop afterwards

I'm working in Southall at the mo but staying in Heston and can thoroughly recommend the Thai curries on offer at the Queen's Head, Cranford.

Moghul Dynasty in Ashtead, Surrey. Complimentary starters and liquer every time, not to mention great food.

Also very good is the Bengal Forest in Denmead. Fabulous food, including some unusual choices and above a great village pub as well.

Ha ha! 300yds from me! It's pretty good but the Ashtead Balti House (100yds in the other direction) is much better. The Balti House had a makeover a couple of years ago and had brand new plates etc made - unfortunately the name is spelt wrongly on every piece!

God I'm hungry now. Will need some curry today whether I will have to make the stuff or go out for it.

(Munster - at a pinch, for an instant curry fix, Trader Joes do some fairly good basic frozen ones.) ;) Can't help you with bangers though.

Another very good one in Southampton is Sanjha. Most of the curry houses I have tried (mainly in London) are Bengali / Bangladeshi but Sanjha in Shirley was the first Punjabi I tried - the dishes are fantastic. Deliveries only though .

Following on from the best restaurant topic I thought it would be interesting to hear where people have had a good curry.

The best curry I have ever had is one cooked with the fresh and top quality ingredients and spices by my Wife. I don't bother with eating out now!
