Following on from the best restaurant topic I thought it would be interesting to hear where people have had a good curry.

My vote goes to Kashmiri Aroma in Ilkley, Yorks. Absolutely amazing! Knocks spots off anywhere I've been in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester etc.

Though it pains me to admitting that I ventured behind enemy lines, this place was the absolute best ever I have had:

The set menu is a bargain too and a lovely view only spoiled by those godawfulmfloodlight pulls in the too near distance.

Brick Lane flatters to disappoint btw.

There was an absolutley fantastic one i used to go to in leytonstone, buggered if I can remember what it was called.

Also, The Mango Lounge in Windsor. The starter I had in there was probably one of the nicest things I have ever eaten anywhere.

dodgy little takeway in Perth (Scotland). Environmental Health would've had a field day as it made most public bogs look palatial but it was the only place open on a sunday evening, so we gave it a go. everything we ordered was superb & was worth the trek across town & sneeking it back into the B&B.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lahores Kebab House, Whitechapel, is the best one I've had.

Do you recommend the kebab there?

Tayyabs is supposed to be the best Curry house in East London; 200 metres from my door yet I've never been. Will resolve this on Saturday as I find myself with not much to do. :(

Gurkha Field Kitchen on the Falklands, combination of 3 days of ration packs and being utterly starving but it tasted out of this world, not just the best curry ever possibly one of the best meals ever.

100% true, able to go up there at lunch from where I work, can get starter main and sides for £20 tops (drinks bought from a nearby offy). Have to say a curry is the one thing in London (along with prostitutes) that is cheaper and better quality than home.

In Southampton I’d go for The Mystery on Thornhill Park Rd, deliver to West End and decent enough eats when you’ve had a skin full! Purbani in Botley is best round that way, staff know your name and I'm a sucker for that kind of thing...

Best curry oop north goes to Nawaab in Leeds City Centre, quite a “posh” curry house but class I have to say. It also prompted the best quote I’ve had from a client at a dinner – they serve naans on these stands and there absolutely huge, anyway when they brought it over the fella I was with hadn’t been there before and greeted his naan with “fook me lad, I asked for a Naan not a Zulu Warrior shield….” you probably had to be there to be fair…..

Tamarind in Bosham was lush, sad to hear that's gone bust since we moved to Devon. Will have to try Shapla next time I'm up to watch Saints. Best in the UK is Sarque in Newcastle, brilliant flavours both times I've been in there. Locally, the Gurkha Chef in Winchester was always excellent but not been in there for 4 years or so.

What are the worst ones people have had?

Moghul Dynasty in Ashtead, Surrey. Complimentary starters and liquer every time, not to mention great food.

Also very good is the Bengal Forest in Denmead. Fabulous food, including some unusual choices and above a great village pub as well.

Absolutely! For deliveries though, Moja (Sampan, or whatever guise it goes under week-to-week) is pretty fine!

damn this thread. just text the mrs to ask if she fancies a ruby tonight! if she says no im gonna go mental like

the Agrah in Garforth was very good, mind you we'd just beaten Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road so eating a donkey that night would have tasted good. come to think of it....

Rogan Josh, Mother India, Tetenhall Rd Wolverhampton. Whilst on a training course I used my allowances to visit all the winners and runners up in the west Midlands Curry Champs :)

Rupali in Newcastle's Bigg Market, simply delicious...

Be honest, you only went there because you read about it in Viz ;)

and its apparently now called the Curry Capital.

Tayyab's and Lahores are the same owner and spitting distance from each other (as you probably know). Tayyab's supposed to be even better but the queue to get in was crazy when we tried, so went to the latter instead.

I've got a friend (Saints fan) who works in the city and lives in Wapping, so it's virtually on his doorstep too.

Been mentioned twice already but the Gurkha Chef in Winchester would be my pick, and for anyone in the Bournemouth/Poole area the Rajasthan in Parkstone is pretty good

Mine was in a basic curry house in Tanah Rata in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Served on banana leaves and eaten with your hands - superb food and hospitality.

Purbani in Botley is very hit and miss and is nowhere near being the best that way. Friends in Bishop's Waltham is very good, then you have Vatika between Botley and Wickham (near Meon Valley (******s) Country Club) which is amazing but has a price to go with that. Then Veranda and Kuti's in Wickham which are both excellent and never fail to impress. Kuti's Fair Oak is also fantastic (the Kuti's restaurants have different menu's!). Keen to try the Bengal Forest as have been past it a few times and it's always busy.

Didnt see anyone outside drinking tea from an unusually sized silver mug did you? (-;

Lol! I know it happened at some tea/burger joint but not sure exactly where.

No cash points in them days, well, as a nipper I never had a card so had to taxi all the way back home and in again after picking up my spare loot!

Back on tack now. Curries.

Used to love the Kohinoor, Mohti grotty, Taj Mahal (Eastleigh), one in Folkestone (did Indian & Chinese).

Great Moghul has sadly waned in the last ten years.

These days I use Nashaa (Eastleigh) without fail but I am seeking to try something else so this thread is illuminating!

There's pretty much a whole row of similar types of curry house in Tanah Rata. Loved the mutton curry banana leaf platters they all did for less than a quid. Remember watching Baggies vs skates FA Cup semi there, not the best of games for a Saints fan to watch obviously.

Sundarbon in Birmingham is awesome. Proper class curry house.
