I bet we will still have 15-18k ST holders

Agreed. On the basis they're not priced completley stupidly I think we'll sell a load. Just think we could sell a fair few more on top if the club approached things differently. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see..................

Would be disappointed with 15k (didn't we have 14k this year??). Would prefer closer to your top end (although think we should be emulating Norwich!!).

why would you be dissapointed..why would you even care one bit..?

we had what...22k ST holders in a brand new ground in the prem.......18k would be great for us...still, why would you be disappointed though..?

And those people will probably attend next season on a 'pay as you go' basis thus contributing to the club's takings, albeit via a different route. Whether they will spend as much at the club on a PAYG basis compared to what they would have spent as a season ticket holder is open to debate of course, but I don't think any of us will know for sure.

I think ST's usually equate to having about 2 games for free compared to if you were buying on a match by match basis. You don't have to be a genius at maths to work out it would take alot of sell outs before you lose out though having too many season ticket holders.

In the Championship we will probably only sell out a few games even if we are doing well, plus many people pay for a season ticket even if they can't make some games.

Personally season ticket holders will tell us very little. It's average attendance which is the meaningful one IMO, especially if Cortese is deliberately trying to not promote season tickets.

More ticket sales = more money = more money to spend on players = better team

It's not rocket science

really.....you know the books at SMS these days..?

so you think NC has a plan (given he is probably more qualified than any of here) to give us less money to spend......and keep the likes of lallana etc..

hmmmm, doubt it personally

i really wonder how much is made by selling an extra 2000 ST..(as im sure all those who will want one will get one) will mean in the whole picture at SMS...?

Posted

Personally I want the stadium as full as possible. If we have lower than expected season ticket holders AND an average walkup then I'll be fairly disappointed because after such a successful season, disappointing attendances would suggest that the club could have done things better to pack the fans in.

Quite a lot if that extra few thousand generates some more noise and a better atmosphere which in turn gets a more positive reaction from the players.

well, just like last year and people saying the exact same thing predicted lower attendances etc...that never happened did it..? (serious question)

I reckon all those (and probably more) who want a ST will infact get one....

No, I think Nicola is probably thinking he can make more money selling individual tickets. He's a banker, it probably p!sses him off that ST holders get a couple of games free.

If that is what he is thinking I think it's wrong because of the nature of football fans. I know ST holders who miss almost a quarter of the games because of work, I missed 3 or 4 last season. Make me pay game by game and the club will lose out.

Probably and I have no idea what attendances will be next season. I'm simply saying that if attendances are lower than I expect then I would be a tad disappointed and feel that the club could have done a bit more to get closer to a full house. Hopefully that won't happen though.

we had what...22k ST holders in a brand new ground in the prem.......18k would be great for us...still, why would you be disappointed though..?

Here's some of my reasons:

1) I think season tickets underpin attendances and I prefer watching Saints in a ground that's busy with a decent atmosphere.

2) I think attendances and support could have a positive impact on what happens on the pitch (however marginal) and would prefer my team to have every advantage possible going in to home matches.

3) Decent attendances will go some way to making us self sufficient or perhaps increasing our financial muscle, which in turn might create a virtuous cycle whereby more money equates to better players, which might lead to to better performances, which means higher attendances etc etc etc

4) From a sense of personal and collective pride, I think there's something nice to be said about your club pulling in a decent crowd.

5) I also think it it's somewhat self fulfilling with decent gates creating a sense of achievement which others then want to partake in (I'm sure stories of potential sell outs make some people think they want a "bit of this").

I'm sure there are more, but does that help as a start???

Well that's sort of the problem isn't it - we'll never know how big our crowds would have been with more season tickets having been sold, we can only speculate. Also, it was a fairly easy to know, especially towards the end of the season they'd be a big pay per game as there always will be with a winning team - it would only only become an issue if the side is struggling which should hopefully not be the case this coming season, but isn't entirely out of the question.

i dont think it will...we clearly have a hardcore support of about 18-20K.....by just being in the NPC our attendances will be bigger for no other reason than no more of the week by week shameful away support at SMS...most weeks we will see at least 2k away fans at sms and many times we will see the whole away allocation full....just by playing..

west ham

brum

leeds

brighton

POMPEY

leicester

forest

reading

cardiff

we will see quite large crowds...easily 25k+..at least...which in the NPC is pretty respectable.....

But that's the thing so, I think Saints are realisng that they'd potentially make more money out of you if you paid per game, even if you miss 3 or 4 matches per season.

I think, cant say 100%, but the club are introducing swipe card season tickets. I think it's for this season, this may well be the reason for the delay.

But do you not think we might have been able to shift some more had we opened it up earlier and then traded off of the euphoria of promotion??

I'll happily take my hat off to Cortese and co. if they come up with some fabulous strategy over the next couple of months, but will feel somewhat disappointed if we just get an average price and a month or so to renew.

maybe...maybe not.....maybe we may have sold an extra 500...? maybe not

IMO, more people will be excited when the fixture list is out.........and we have made a couple of signings......who know...

better start changing the turnstiles then as i do not think they are ready for that piece of technology

Where did you hear this?

I have to say, I have never noticed you on here up until last week when you decided to launch an unprovoked attack on me. Since then, all I have seen from your posts is criticism and abuse of others. Slightly hypocritical to have a go at others for the quality of their posts!

Don't worry, he was having a go at me earlier. Time of the month, I reckon.

Anyway, it does strike me as slightly odd they haven't ridden the wave of post-promotion optimism. I'm not sure NC still fully understands the football fan dynamic. The optimistic in me hopes it's because they'll be a couple of dramatic signings just as tickets go on sale...

I've heard this as well, also from a good contact, the plan around xmas time was to bring them in during the summer, also bar coded match tickets which can be scanned, if it is going to happen or not i dont know.

FFS, what are we going to moan about now?!:x

cortese fleecing us when the prices come out

No installement plan, or if there is one why is it only over x amount of months instead of x.

There will be plenty for people to moan about.

Or rather that should say:

There will be plenty of people who will find something to moan about.

FWIW, the club can and will never please all of the people all of the time... it would be good if that were remembered by fans when they're 'discussing' the details, but doubtless we'll just have the usual 'The club are w@nkers' vs 'You're not happy unless you're moaning' extreme arguments.

I set my watch by them. :smug:

that seems to imply they are having season tickets next season - thought they didn't want them?

they won't be cheap, if that was going to happen it would have been last season, unattractive league and centenary - this season, looking for promotion to prem with West Ham, Cardiff, skates etc -don't expect favours!

No-one has at once said that they were going to completely do away with season tickets. There has been a genuine discussion as to what the club's policy is towards promoting and encouranging the take up of season tickets as oppossed to pay per game. Good to hear about an announcement this eve, looking forward to seeing the details.

Fratton End/South Stand/North Stand – Adult

Second Phase: £499 – £21.69 per match

Fratton End/South Stand/North Stand – Senior/Young Person

Second Phase: £330 – £14.34 per match

Family Enclosure – Adult

Second Phase: £380 – £16.52 per match

Family Enclosure – Senior/Young Person

Second Phase: £240 – £10.43 per match

Pompey ones as an early comparison. Second phase though, so I guess new buyers.

My Young Adult ticket in the Northam cost £290 this season, so as a mark-up I would expect around £330

Wheelchair Disabled

Second Phase: £150 – £6.52 per match

Of course they are not going to. It's quite obvious though isn't it, last season they made it as difficult as possible for people to buy a season ticket.

amazing so many people struggled through and managed to get one.

Oh an here he goes again, like at the end of the season pulling up all the threads about us not getting promotion in a "look at me" type way. I know it doesn't fit in with your little agenda, late notifaction as to prices, a cut off date of the start of the season or tough luck and the removal of the installement plan without notice did make it very difficult for people.

I know Sue! And you have never hurt anyone on here...

Yes I agree with you there. I do feel that NC is slightly out of touch with supporters at times and that is where some of his less fan friendly initiatives may have come from.
