Season tickets, 2011/12

The term "this evening" is subjective, many use it to describe the night as a whole, others for a shorter period. It is still the same night-time in which we were told the article would arrive. We were told it would be "later this evening" at gone 9pm, so clearly it is being used as a term to describe the night as a whole. So it isn't late (yet). Ask again at 6am. ;)

If it is dark, it isn't evening. Not even by your standards of attempted pedantry and semantics can 8am the following day be described as "later this evening", and I'm pretty sure it was hours before 9pm yesterday "evening" when the news came out in the first place.

As for the STs.

Good things :

They exist at all

There is an instalment plan

They can spell instalment on the OS unlike 95% of people here

The price is only slightly more expensive than I was expecting

Instalments are only about £50 a month

Club seems to have covered the 'non-payment' angle.

Bad things

Instalment plan still requires a lump payment of a minimum of £255.50...

There is a 5% admin fee

My road tax is due next month as well!

It's more expensive than my top end estimate

They appear to have done away with free U8s tickets

No sales after start of season

No part season sales

Still looks like they're doing it out of obligation not choice

Looks like it'll be debit card based

Bit faffy getting an ST in two bits

The £2 matchday 'to reduce queues' surcharge- no doubt will become another 'worthy' cause that the internet warriors will martyr themselves for

Er, they had this last season, we've already wasted quite enough time on the various Cortese Taxes.

What qualifies a person as a student?

I'm studying as a adult while doing full time work....I qualify for a NUS card

Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk

Sounds like you qualify with a NUS card; likewise they wouldn't have had a seperate category for young adults 17-20 under concessions if 'students' didnt cover a larger group.

southampton football club has never and will never communicate to its customer base with any real affection at times they treat supporters with utter disdain!

much like most clubs...people have championed norwich on how they do it...yet they have banned a fan for life for comments on twitter...how would NC be seen if he done that..?

That on the day thing was the case last year as well.

I'd say the announcement is good compared to last year's because of lowered expectations, but still gash compared to every season before that.

Guess it depends on what was said.

Carrow Road has been bursting at the seams regardless of what division they've been in so they've clearly done something right.

indeed..but they have set the bar in banning a fan for comments on twitter...not just banned him from getting a ST (like illingsworth) but banned him for life....can you imagine the meltdown if NC did that

if you cant afford it..or its too much, do get a ST then........

either way, you were going to have to pay for a ST and car tax this summer no matter what...

I can afford it, and yes, but now I know I have to pay them at the same time. Along with the insurance. Not really the club's fault but an arse pain nevertheless.

Has anyone else noticed that if we get into the playoffs the home game doesn't seem to be included....

"ST is the only way to guarantee.....being first in the queue for cup games and any potential play-off matches"

I'm sure the home leg was included the last time we made the playoffs.

Age range concession up from 60 to 65 so ticket increase from £300 to £515, ouch!!! Might now take the option of the installment plan, good to see it making a return.

£515 ticket will be £267.50 plus £26.75 admin fee up front, then instalments of £66.80ish.

So your first instalment will be nearly the cost of last season's ticket. Ouch.

I think we may have had a few "extra" tickets in the back of the book, but I'm not sure it was.

Does this point to centre stand tickets making a jump from £25 per match last season, to £30 or more next season?

If the season ticket price is almost £26 per match, then adding the cost of the two free matches season ticket holders are supposed to get over the cost of the buying per fixture cost, it comes to over £28 per match, and seeing as how prices never get rounded down, that means £29 a match without the ticket tax.

Seeing as the club need to generate as much money as possible, it doesn't require a huge jump of the imagination to see tickets costing £30 per match plus the £2 ticket tax and it's getting a bit steep to watch Saints in the Championship. So seems like a Season ticket is going to be the best option seeing as I generally go to between 15 and 20 home games a season.

normal business models don't apply in football though - its not like getting fed up with customer service at Debenhams so you go to John Lewis, you are hardly likely to go and get a fratton park season ticket due to their better OS!

I think normal business models don't apply for the hard core who would sign up come what may, but as the reduction in attendances has shown since we fell out of the Premiership, we do have a sizeable number of supporters who need to be enticed back to SMS. I'm sure success and winning games will win some back, but we should also be doing all we can to attract those who aren't as hooked on Saints (or who have other competing options).

The below link shows the prices that were being offered in the March madness of 2008 for the forthcoming season 2008/09 when we were relegated and of course the prices in the March madness could of meant that we were paying these prices to watch League one football as we all know that we survived on the last day of the season against Sheffield United. Doesn't look that bad to me when you compare and then base it on the fact that we are 3 seasons down the road and have a far better chance of success in the 2011/12 season then we were expecting in the 2008/09 season.

I know that I'd rather pay more with genuine expectation then pay less in the knowledge that there is a real possibility of going down which we ultimately did.

Thanks for that, not THAT much different then, TBH it is the child over 11 and under 17 price that has almost doubled and made a big difference.

And need to bear in mind prices were much steeper for those -whether renewing or purchasing new STs- who missed the March 31 cutoff, perhaps because they wanted to see which division we would be in. Or just didn't have the cashflow.

As long as an option is in place to spread the cost then there's no complaints. We want success then we have to pay for it, simple. If we don't then we're going to end up like Pompey.

We've had time to save up, I haven't as I've had a house to renovate, but the option to pay in installments is all we can ask for..

We've been living beyond our means these last two seasons, we can't look and s****** at Pompey if we're losing money ourselves.

Success costs... unfortunately and if we want more expensive players we can't be relying on a rich benefactor. We HAVE to be a viable, balanced football club..

Quick comparison with other clubs.

Adult tickets only. New purchase prices. If no direct equivalent, comparisons made on location.

----------------------Saints--------------------Coventry City------------------Derby County

Family enclosure-------£460------------------------£299 (No direct equivalent)-------£445 (No direct equivalent)

Behind Goal------------£540------------------------£299----------------------------£375

Half way line----------£595-------------------------£375----------------------------£480-£560

In conclusion, we are now quite expensive.

Changing the age for seniors from 60 to 65 is the killer for me. Means the cost goes up from £285 to £465 - 63% increase. And as I can only get to about half the home games, that's nearly £40 a game, plus £60 - £80 travel. Going to need some thought. I'f effectively be paying loads just to guarantee P**pey tickets, cup tickets and playoffs oif we get there.

What I'm dissappointed about is there is no Membership to recognise the loyal supporter who can't get to all games.

They have given back the instalment plan and made reasonable (IMO) price rises, also adding Free kids up to under 11's and added student prices to then concessions.

But I am still not happy, I want my ST to be free or be able to pay for it at the cost of £1 a month with no interest.

I make £465 over a 40% increase which to be honest was more than I was expecting.

Was last year's £328 a bargain, or is this new price a bit steep????

Looking back at the last time we played in the Championship I paid £380, so even allowing for three years inflation the current prices are a bit more.

2 weeks for renewals and only 3 weeks for new purchases just seems too short if we're trying to boost crowds and income??? Must be the shortest window in the League.

Would be v.reluctant to generalise from these, as the Leeds prices show. Show all the clubs (renewals + new purchases) or nothing.

As I found from looking, the pricing structure varies wildly from club to club. A direct comparison is tricky, hence why i've had to go for the conditions I mentioned.

How easy is it to move my season ticket? I'm guessing it isn't difficult for them and I can do it in the first window of season ticket renewal sales?

moved couple of years ago, I renewed in first window then chose new seat when they went on general sale

I assume you took advantage of the March Madness, albeit with the distinct possibility of L1 football.
