WealdSaint Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 How does yesterdays crowd rate with our all time record?
sidthesquid Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 How does yesterdays crowd rate with our all time record? Quite well.....
1976_Child Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 How does yesterdays crowd rate with our all time record? **** poorly. Back in the 30s the Dell had 50,000+ regularly.
NorthamSteve Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 (edited) **** poorly. Back in the 30s the Dell had 50,000+ regularly. No it didn't, the record is about 31,000. The club record is 32,151 at St Mary's. Although I'd like to know how many actually got in for Channon's testimonial. Edited 8 May, 2011 by NorthamSteve
70's Mike Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Only gaps yesterday were in Corporate section in Itchen, Northam side and a few empty boxes plus segregated area
krissyboy31 Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 We were debating whether it was the best since relegation from the Prem but both the Southend and Sheff Utd games had bigger attendances.
100%Red&White Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Only gaps yesterday were in Corporate section in Itchen' date=' Northam side and a few empty boxes plus segregated area[/quote'] And Walsall sent back around 100 tickets. What we shouldn't forget is this was sold out to Saints fans a week before the game. If we had the capacity to continue selling tickets for another 7-or-so days who knows what we may have sold - for a third division match!
StVince1966 Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 biggest attendance for a 3rd division game in the history of english football?
Matthew Le God Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 biggest attendance for a 3rd division game in the history of english football? No chance! You don't even need to go back that far to see it beaten, just go back last season and Leeds United on four occasions in League One beat Saints attendance on Saturday (helped of course by having a larger ground), including over 38k against Bristol Rovers and 36k against Huddersfield. Then if you were to go back to the 1930's to 1970's you will find some huge attendance's even as low as the 3rd tier.
shurlock Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Im just as impressed that over 17,000 turned out for Sunday's match - that's more than the number that regularly turned up when we were last in the championship and effortlessly more than the pathetic 3000-5000 that is reported to have attended Brighton's victory parade.
StVince1966 Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 biggest finanical return for a game in the 3rd division in the history of english football?
The Majestic Channon Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Me and stVince1966 most beer ever consumed in the history of english football in covent garden night before a match ?
dubai_phil Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Me and stVince1966 most beer ever consumed in the history of english football in covent garden night before a match ? Me for the most obnoxious toxic fumes emitted during a long haul flight (on the way back home on Sunday...) Strangely the seat behind me emptied shortly after we reached cruising altitude and the pressue differential took hold Fish & Chip Lunch, Real Ale, Lager at Ground, Real Ale all evening, Chicken Patia, Onion bajies, Real Ale before boarding flight. Jokes aside, Saturday the crowd was awesome, was proud to have been there It's as Simple as that
CLOTH EARS Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 I think you will find that the record crowd for third tier football in England is 49.000 for the Sheffield derby at Hillsbrough in 1979.
NorthamSteve Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 I think you will find that the record crowd for third tier football in England is 49.000 for the Sheffield derby at Hillsbrough in 1979. And this game will probably get More than 32k next season.
stockbridge_saint Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 That game has got to be the most saints fans at any game (at St Mary's anyway) because for other games that have sold out the away fans have always had more tickets.
Amesbury Saint Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 I was trying to find a website to see how many times the figure at SMS was beaten.

Got to be close (apart from Le Tiss testimonial) but Steaua Bucuresti in the UEFA and Milton Keynes in the JPT have to be up there too!

suewhistle Posted 10 May, 2011 Posted 10 May, 2011 Strangely the seat behind me emptied shortly after we reached cruising altitude and the pressue differential took hold Gawd, you must have been evil... It's funny, no matter how cultured and refined one tries to be there's just no stopping it, is there? Burton beers (e.g. Pedigree) always add an interesting note to the bouquet..

Although I'd like to know how many actually got in for Channon's testimonial. The old DELL crowd record was 31,044 . I know 'cos I woz one of them. October 8th 1969 v. Man Utd - we lost 0-3 although a draw would have been a fairer result. the prev. "best" was 30856 . April 30th 1949 v. West.Brom. 1-1 draw and we missed a pen. ´They got promoted to Div.One and we stayed put on 3rd in Div.2 The season of the great disaster. 8 points ahead of the league at Easter we lost almost every game after Wayman was injured v. Tottenham..
