georgeweahscousin Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 ......so wasn't available for the All Saints game. I'm not saying that he was asked, he might not have been, but he is the guest of honour at the Muratti.
sambosa75 Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Shame. I had a sneaky feeling he might have made a surprise appearance just before kick off or came on as a sub by walking out the tunnel with 10 mins left or something... Is there a confirmed squad for the "legends" team yet?
ericofarabia Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Excuse my ignorance - but is The Muratti a local Indian Restaurant? Typical of him thinking about food instead about Saints!!!!
Micky Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 With all due respect to all parties, I would expect that this game was somewhat hastily arranged given that nothing was certain in terms of automatic promotion until quite recently. Therefore some of the personalities that we might have wished to see at SMS probably have agreed to other commitments that they are unable to break. Would have loved to see the likes of MLT and WGS - but as I say, this is probably a quite short notice event.
MINIBARCELONASAINT Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tissier wasn't asked, neither was Benali Source: The Benalis HTH
beatlesaint Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Excuse my ignorance - but is The Muratti a local Indian Restaurant? Typical of him thinking about food instead about Saints!!!! Its the Channel Islands game between the two main islands I think.
Doctoroncall Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Its the Channel Islands game between the two main islands I think. Indeed it is.
Huntingdon Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Its the Channel Islands game between the two main islands I think. Correct As strange as it may seem, the rivalry between Jersey and Guernsey is quite intense They've had trouble at these matches in the past
Hatch Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Correct As strange as it may seem, the rivalry between Jersey and Guernsey is quite intense They've had trouble at these matches in the past Guernsey Yooof >>>> Jersey Yoof
hypochondriac Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tissier wasn't asked, neither was Benali Source: The Benalis HTH Absolute travesty and extremely petty of the club if true. How sad.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Absolute travesty and extremely petty of the club if true. How sad. Would you invite someone to your party if they used the national and local media to have digs at you?
westmidlandsaint Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Francis Benali was presenting awards to a local romsey football club (one of the players is my nephew and this was pre-booked) Matt Le Tissier said at Lundekvam's testimonial that it would be the last time he would put a saints shirt on again
saint77 Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Francis Benali was presenting awards to a local romsey football club (one of the players is my nephew and this was pre-booked) Matt Le Tissier said at Lundekvam's testimonial that it would be the last time he would put a saints shirt on again only cause there is none big enough
Professor Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 As Matt had a prior engagement, an invite could only have been made in the expectation that he would have to decline, but if there is any bad feeling it should be put to rest, and the onus is really on the club to do that. A gesture of reconciliation would be the right thing for the club to do and they should be big enough to do that. If Matt turned it down it would be sad but it would mean the page would have to be turned.
manji Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tissier wasn't asked, neither was Benali Source: The Benalis HTH Totally reliable source then..............................no agenda there !
Thedelldays Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Absolute travesty and extremely petty of the club if true. How sad. not like you to say something like that is it... this is all about this team at the mo....
VectisSaint Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Indeed it is. Actually it isn't, it also involves Alderney, although they have not won the Vase since 1920 apparently.
shane d Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tissier wasn't asked, neither was Benali Source: The Benalis HTH Yep i'l second this, spoke to both of them on friday at golf. They don't get on with Nicola, so didn't get asked
NickG Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tiss has been to St marys this season and guess will again. Cortese is more important to the future
Micky Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Le Tiss has been to St marys this season and guess will again. Cortese is more important to the future Exactly, and the game has been and gone - so let's move on eh. We should be celebrating, not looking for petty bun fights.
Badger Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Actually it isn't, it also involves Alderney, although they have not won the Vase since 1920 apparently. What about Sark ?
hypochondriac Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 not like you to say something like that is it... this is all about this team at the mo.... Erm except that today wasn't about the team. It was about the team playing a saints all-star eleven with two notable absentees. I think it would do the club credit to put silly feuds behind it and move on united.
St Marco Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Erm except that today wasn't about the team. It was about the team playing a saints all-star eleven with two notable absentees. I think it would do the club credit to put silly feuds behind it and move on united. Seeing as it is Matt and Benali who are the ones talking in the media or behind peoples backs surely it is them who should be trying to offer an olive branch? It seems all the other legends and old boys have nothing but praise for Nicola. Read Channons comments about it. So not really sure what you expect Nicola to do exactly?
shane d Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 We all love the two mentioned, and don't wanna hear bad things about them. But the club has moved on, and is more important. Would be nice if all could kiss and make up. Would have topped the day of to see both them out there yesterday. In Nicola we trust
the saints god Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Coming from guernsey and supporting Southampton i must say that the Muratti is the biggest event in the sporting season for a Guern, and the rivalry of us and the crappos is usually more intense than that of us and the skates. The Muratti does consist of the four islands, Sark, Alderney, Jersy and Guernsey. however alderney and sark never make it past the semi finals as it is seeded. this year Guernsey were hot favourites to win as we represented england at thee amateur european championships. however yesterday jersey equalise in the 97th minute to make it 1-1, then they went on to win on penalties. I did not see le tiss at the game but he was most probably sat in the stands where you had to pay extra.

I am covering the Island games on my site:- http://georgeweahscousin.com/2011/05/05/natwest-island-games-2011-football-draw/ Will be doing a preview soon.

the saints god Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Tony hasn't released the squad for the islands games as of yet but i very much doubt it will be different to what it was today, no idea on the situation for Jersey. also you may want to respell Guernsey in group C
the saints god Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 97 min injury time. Did the ref come from Jersey? it was the thought of the majority of the crowd, with only 4 minutes stoppage time meant to be had, after he blew the whistle for full time, there were some harsh words shouted.
