whatever the outcome he must be allowed to play for SAINTS in the Championship ?????

So because he is a Saints player, you think if he is found guilty he should be treated differently in the justice system to your average Joe committing the same alleged offences?

I would have expected lots more posts wishing Barney well and Good Luck Barney .... it all seems to have gone quiet as if there is an inevitability about his departure.

Maybe most of us trust the criminal justice system to do whatever is required and come to the right decision, whatever that may be.

The simple fact of the matter is if he is guilty then you do the crime you do the time. Simple as that.

Although I hope he is available to play next season, but he is going to have to take what is handed down to him he might be lucky and get a bender, large fine and community service but it could be three to six months in Winchester.

Watched Barney's body language yesterday and he seemed a bit despondent. If he knew the fans were behind him then that maybe that would cheer him up.

The crucial question is that if he spends 3-6 months in Winchester - will he be released from Southampton FC or will he be backed for a return and make a good contribution next season.

After all, he is a good footballer and has got some important goals this season.

Why would the club (who have supported him through this) "throw him out"?

He is a valuable team member (although IMHO a fit DC is a better player) he is worth good money in the transfer market and other "players who had problems" have gone on to have good careers and earn good transfer revenues for the sides who picked them up for nothing. NC is a businessman, NA talks about the Team Dynamic, LB is a critical part of the team....

The likes of Jermaine Pennant have "got over it" and I am sure IF the system so sees fit, LB will also get over it. I expect it would be benefical to team morale that we stood by him as well

Thank god somebody has added a bit of perspective to it. As Phil says LB is a valuable asset to the club and it's up to the club to support him as best they can. He won't be the first pro footballer to have done a little porridge (if it comes to that), Jermaine Pennant, Lee Hughes, Marlon King and I believe even Tony Adams have all had free B & B at HM pleasure and gone on to play again.

It you do the crime, do the time - I would happily have him back if the worst came to the worst.

Brum stuck with Pennant playing in his tag. What LB is alleged to have done was wrong and the player & the club will have to manage the repurcussions, however it is NOT the first Saints player to have had legal problems even in recent times (Dyer & BWP spring to mind) the difference is that LB is respected by the Team, the Management AND the fans.

he won't be going unless we get a bucketload of money for him and replace him with a similar player - such as Tevez

I back him as a player yes but definately not for glassing someone - if he did - for what ever the reason or provocation - if there was any.

I would not wish as a Saints fan to offer him 'luck' or backing for committing a crime if that is what he has done. I am not offering 'backing' to cheer him up over this either.

My support for Saints does not extend to these conditions - justice must take it's course..............

Don't think anyone does.

In situations like this, people are backed to serve their punishment and to repay their debt to society but are also SUPPORTED to understand what they have done wrong and to implement lifestyle changes that ensures that they are never in that position again or react the same way.

For example IF LB turns out to be a serial tw*t over booze and nights out ala Danny Cipriani then neither the fnas or the club will support his "rehabilitation".

I'm not backing what he did (allegedly) at all.

All I'm saying is that if he completes whatever punishment may come his way, and the club see fit to retain him, then I would happily see him play for us again. Sorry to keep advocating Phil (honestly, I'm not his 'love child'..!) but once sentence has been served, rehabilitation and support is next. People get a second chance - **** that up and then perhaps support starts to wane.

I wouldn't cast anybody out over one incident gone bad (depending on severity of course).

Had a great day yesterday but now worried about the Barney situation !!!!!!

whatever the outcome he must be allowed to play for SAINTS in the Championship ?????

As a general rule I put the preservation of law and order in society ahead of the nuances of football supporting.

Morning all - thanks for the all the posts ... my contribution today is ...

BARNEY IS INNOCENT ...OK ?

I SUPPORT BARNEY and want him back playing in the SAINTS Shirt as soon as possible. DC scored a great goal against BRIGHTON and proved his worth in last few games - but BARNEY is a special type of player.

Does anyone out there agree with me ??

LB injury was a blessing in disguise as we looked a better team with DC in the side.

I expect neither will be first choice next season.

Are you saying that LB should order a taxi? 8)

But I think it proved my point from that time. LB still has a critical role but the passing & movement of DC added a different dimension on Saturday. Some games where we get the space like that DC is the only choice (at the moment). Tight and niggly games then LB it would have to be.

DC on a pay as play deal brings a footballing brain to the team, that is really valuable in the NPC

Barney has a had a good season and took his chances well to secure a run in the side. It does not alter the fact that his first touch is poor and come next season, CMS would keep him out of the side week in week out. so would Guly and I have reservations as to whether he will cut it at the next level. So no I'm not convinced he will be here next season.

You say he is innocent but the plaster on his arm for 3 months might inidcate therei s a case to answer. If found guilty, there should be no special treatment and he will probably get 15 months (out in 8 with good behaviour). If he is found not guilty then he will be available for selction but, IMO will struggle to get in the side and make an impact at CCC level.

He is guilty, thats pretty obvious. SFC have been finding things to stall the case so he could play out the season that is also pretty obvious. What isn't clear is what the punishment will be. £ will have the deciding factor.

Le Goddard -out Shopping in West Quay with the girls and logged on - how dare you ! - He isn't guilty and SFC haven't been stalling -he has a good Brief - and he the victim in all this - look what happened to his poor hand !!!

I know from a football perspective it will be a shame if we lose him but if it was someone from another walk of life we would all be saying what a silly boy and he will have to except what is handed down to him.

I agree with Pinkscarf. Its not Barnards fault some mug headed a glass bottle at his hand.

Another Sunny Day in SOUTHAMPTON (Cream of the South) - another day declaring SUPPORT for BARNEY.
