Nigel vs Nigel.

NA is certainly the best manager we've had since WGS and maybe than even further back. What odds we'll finish above Hull next season?

Agree, would not be surprised if Adkins is eventually remembered as better than WGS, but he needs to evidence progress next season but looks like a more complete manager

Adkins has my heartfelt thanks for getting us out of Div 1. Nigel Pearson's time here was under different circumstances, but doesn't really stack up against Nigel A's.

Pearson however did very well with Leicester in Div 1 and Championship. Time to compare ability will be at end of next season. All of course, in my humble opinion.

I liked Pearson a great deal and think we would have stayed up had we kept him. He got Leicester up and they did well the season after. If Adkins gets us into a top 10 position then its about honours even.

Eh? Pearson got to fifth and a play off final in his first full season in the championship. Saints have indentical levels of resources that LCFC had then. And our Nigel has managed in the championship before. Adkins will need to do a lot better than top ten to be 'honours even' with Pearson.

think people are judging more on what they did for saints - hence Adkins ahead.

So you're saying that because Pearson didn't get us promoted (having only had a struggling team for a few months) when Adkins manifestly has (with a good team for nearly a full season) this means that Adkins must per se be the better manager ... oh & and what is more you can 'prove' all this with some numbers ?

Remarkable.

No.

Both are good managers so hard to compare.

Pearson's achievements with Leicester would probably put him ahead in his career.

I was comparing their time at Saints. Hard to compare as Pearson's was unfairly cut short.

Pearson was ok'ish for us. Left on a high due to being in relegation spot before last game survival which left feel good factor, but didn't do great with us. Showed potential and as I said at start of this thread wish he had been given a chance.

Adkins on the other hand has very done well - even you have admitted you were wrong.

Not really. Pearson got saints into the championship for the following season quicker than adkins did, he did it in about 15 games. Pearson wins. Oh. Your comparison is utterly pointless Nick.

On the contrary, the record shows that Nigel Adkins has received the dubious benefit of my full (but unlike you not unquestioning) support since his 1st game in charge here - you must be confusing me with some other person.

As for both Pearson & Adkins being "good managers" this would be one of our rare moments of agreement - I don't remember however many Saints fans feeling he had merely done a "ok ish" job on the last day of the 07/08 season - far from it.

I make it 1.14 points per game which over season would have been bottom three.

You obviously are trying to count the Plymouth match, where he was manager in name only (arrived a few hours previously, and was a basically a spectator to Dudd/Gormless's last fiasco). After that his record was P13 W3 D7 L3 = 1.23 points per game = 57 over a season (comfortably safe).

After being dismissed by Lowe, Pearson took over relegated Leicester, and despite the Lowe-luvvies saying the "boot-boy" wouldn't succeed, he took them up as champions with 96 points, and the next season took them to the playoffs (losing on penalties).

The last manager that the fans really took too was Nigel Pearson, do you think he would achieved what Mr Adkins has?

No, because he wouldn't have allowed us to be relegated in the first place, so would never have achieved promotion from League 1.
